    I just got a glockenspiel for Solstice this year. Mine is a 2.5 octave one. Not the fanciest, but a great instrument to learn on. It’s a lot of fun to play!

      Thanks for watching. You can do a lot of fun things with a Glockenspiel. Check out this video when you get a minute. th-cam.com/video/_3KIEcwhFm0/w-d-xo.html

    I am always fascinated by these types of instruments. I have a couple of sets from when my kids were little and actually a pretty bit one that has case with wheels from when my son who is a drummer had to take the precursor to drums and he never enjoyed playing them but really wanted to play drums and since it was required he did it. However ,being a musician I never had the heart to get rid of them....maybe one day I will drag them out. I think your set has a nice tone! no dead notes or anything. Enjoy ( and I KNOW that one video in the future you will use it with effects or something lol~ nice vid was enjoyable * and I wrote that before you even said it.....NOW THAT is funny~~ :)

    BTW I actually had this very one in my Amazon Later area but after hearing you play with it I decided to go ahead and get for $29.95. I did subscribe. Thanks!

    I love glockenspiels! They're so pretty and bell-like. Sounds like Christmas to me, haha :D

      Ha ha. Yes... they do sound festive. I need to do a piece where I combine it with the modular synthesizer. I like culture clash. Ha ha.

      This glockenspiel goes from G5 to G7 with all the chromatic notes in between. I hope that helps.

    I've been looking for a xylophone on Amazon because I'd like to use it in the intro of one of my future piano covers. Now that I've discovered a glockenspiel, I'm not sure any more what I actually should get. :D I needed to watch this video to get a feel of this instrument. Thank you! :) Shame that Amazon doesn't have the "play" function. :D

    I have a 27 key one so mine goes to g5 to a7

  • @NicoleFoti
    @NicoleFoti 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is this different from a xylophone?!

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a really good question actually. A xylophone is an instrument with Greek origins while a glockenspiel has German origins. They're both in the keyboard percussion family (with the vibraphone, marimba, etc). Traditionally, xylophones had wood keys while glockenspiels had metal ones (though today this is not always the case). The real difference is in the way they're tuned. A glockenspiel is normally chromatic like a piano (notice the white and black keys) where a xylophone is tuned to a scale allowing it to have a larger range with less keys.

      It's pretty neat actually. I need to do a video where I plug it into the modular synth. That might be epic.

    A c chord or a c major arpeggio? :) Keep on buying from Amazon and soon all the brightly lit stores in your community will be dimly lit data centers. For $43 you'd be way better off seeing if you could find a used Ludwig bell kit.

      Well this is a much deeper rabbit hole and I could go on about this for days but I agree with you for the most part. Amazon is becoming too powerful. They're the new Walmart. LOL. Musical instruments are one of the few things I get from Amazon and that's simply for the upkeep and popularity of the channel. In other words, it's what people want to see.
      For instance, I received a couple kazoos off Amazon, did a review video, and it gets 8000 views pretty quickly. Kazoos of all things! th-cam.com/video/Yew5k0C9ylA/w-d-xo.html Then I find a vintage instrument on eBay, make a similar video, and it doesn't even get 300 views. th-cam.com/video/tDvX1HpTb5k/w-d-xo.html Ugh. I prefer to buy local when I can but that's become increasingly difficult during this pandemic. You'll notice my Amazon reviews started in mid-2020.
      Alas, we live in the age of Amazon whether we like it or not. That said, Reverb is my friend (although they're starting to frustrate me with all their new policies). I always prefer to buy used gear where possible and I constantly sell stuff I'm not using (I often regret it later). I used to get a lot of stuff off Craigslist but I'm not really comfortable going into people's homes right now.
      I'm also a big fan of DIY instruments and I have a whole playlist of things I've made (many of them I've performed with) from synthesizers to basses. th-cam.com/play/PLwIixlr7C6KUbPfAgFP6Sn4D46L0i0CQD.html Oh golly... I've already droned on for 4 paragraphs. I told you this was a rabbit hole. LOL. Thanks for watching the vid.

      @@musicalmiscellany The low G to the next G is one octave. The middle G to the high G is the second octave. Therefore, the glockenspiel in this video is a 2 octave range, not a 3 octave G range.

      @@rodrodriguez460 Correct, 25-keys is 2 octaves. Did I say it was 3? If I did, that was obviously a slip up.
