For anyone having a thyroid biopsy, don't be afraid I just had one this morning. I was prescribed lidocaine and the morning of I put it in a thick layer over the area covered it with a clear occlusion dressing, it's clear and waterproof, wash the area real well before applying, I did it an 1 and half hours before the procedure, along with the dressing and I felt NO pain at all, nothing but something moving around in my neck that was odd, but it did not hurt at all. I hope this helps someone❤
Don’t be nervous. I had a biopsy of two nodules yesterday. No pain just a bit of pressure. Today I just have a small bruise on my neck but no pain. Just hoping now for good results.
I just had a thyroid biopsy 06/01/2022. I was so nervous more so because I recently had cervical surgery. The thought of a needle in my neck in the area where I had my cervical surgery had me scared as it was still tender. I felt a little pinch & burning but was so relieved. It didn't hurt at all. Now to wait for results!!
I am so glad that i watched this video, because everyone i talked to has given me a horror story that had me scared to death. I almost didn't get it done, but reading what other people have went through i think i will be ok. Thank you
Neil R I just had one done today. They took 5 core samples and 3 aspiration samples. Once the numbing is over you dont feel a thing at all. The procedure goes super fast
same here hon, I was already in the room and almost refused it but they reassured me that it was less painful than when they draw blood from you and they were right. only felt a little pinch, thank God.
I just found out today that a nodule was found in my thyroid and I have to have a sono guided fna test, which I am told is when a needle is inserted to draw out the fluid. I am waiting to hear from my cardiologist because I am on Coumadin and aspirin due to open heart surgery I had in December of 2015. My ENT doctor told me to consult with my cardiologist to see whether or not I had to be off these medications. I'm not sure why he didn't know himself but I will talk to my cardiologist tomorrow. I am scared and hope this is not cancer. Just wondering if anyone knows if you have to be off blood thinner medication when this procedure is done, Thank you, Gail Frazier
Even after watching this video i'm still spooked getting this done tomorrow is gonna be a pain... i mean having that numbing medication injected might cause me to flip out. The video even said that it'll feel like a bee sting and i UTTERLY DESPISE BEE STINGS.
I had mine done today, it was fine I had a shot to numb me but it was a little pressure but it was fine, I got stuck with a needle like 10 times but I suggest just relax it’s not bad at all, my neck just a little sore too
Had mine done yesterday bilaterally, the left side was pretty much painless but as far as I'm aware I don have any lumps, the right side I have a large mass thats painful and another smaller one. When the doctor did the right side one he did freeze it like the left side but when he inserted needle and began to aspirate I was in extreme pain so much so that I went into shock and he decided not to take another sample. Unsure why I experience so much pain but it wasn't pleasant and now Im really concerned. anyone else experience this and if so what happened. oh and they also took out at least 30 to 60 ml of fluid on each side .

I have a question, I just had my 3rd thyroid biopsy and I forgot if this is normal but the injection site has swollen up like a mini ball but its not red because I am on amoxicilan, is it normal to be swollen like this? I can swollow and the pain feels more like discomforting pressure.
I only just saw your response. Sorry for the delay. How was your procedure? Ill respond just in case anyone else is going through it soon. The process was much quicker than expected. The first needle is definitely uncomfortable but not horrible. THe numbing sets in very fast. I found it scary a bit only because I was told to hold my breath and not move while sticking a giant needle in my neck But in the end it wasnt nearly as bad as I had thought. Just dont look at the needle!

Yes. I understand about 2nd bigger needle. Not sure why it was. They don't tell you unless you ask. Mine need up being indeterminate. Twice. Then doc said surgery on right side.
+Neil R i got mines done today and the only thing that bothered me was feeling the needle pocking me in side my thyroid. More than painful was an annoying sensation that bothered a lot.

Had mine done yesterday. No pain just a little discomfort yesterday after the procedure. Perfectly fine today.

I had one done today. They never numbed the area and the Dr took take 4 samples. It was uncomfortable but not awful.

done it today by my specialist. It was done without ultrasound and no medication given. It was very much painless. Mine was done in 10 mins or less.

They want to make sure that the nodule is not cancerous.
Do they take samples of each nodule? or only suspicious looking ones?
I it common for fluid to be real dark?

Having mines done on the 21st of March. This was helpfull. Can be a bit more calm hoping that anxiety dont kick in.

I had a CT scan and they found calcification and a goiter with nodules on it on my thyroid. Waiting for an appointment.

I was told they have to be a certain size. I have four nodules, and they are only going to biopsy one because it's quite large.
