  • In this tutorial, our lecturer Thomas Green, shows how you can use Logic Pro X's Phat FX to enhance a group of drum tracks, giving them added punch, as well as making them sound like they've all been recorded through the same desk in the same environment.

What's your favourite way to beef up your drums?

Big fan of this plug-in, feel like it's quite under rated considering all it can do. Cheers for the video!

This was really good. You're spot on when you say louder isn't better. Came here for the drums and left with great mixing advice. Thanks.

Genuinely curious why not drive the output into the hard clipping & decrease the fader? It was sounding real good @ the beginning!!

Notice how the exciter causes some unpleasant resonances on that Cl HH

I would prefer to use a selection of individual plugins rather than one modular one or a more complex modular one like Slate Digital’s virtual mix rack. This would give me far more flexibility and subtlety as, for instance I would be able to choose an individual compressor plugin with its own specific characteristics and more control options than the simplistic ones provided by Phat FX. However, as a starting point, when learning, the advantage of a modular unit is that I can see how different individual unit effect one another within a single interface.

Cool. My friendly tip for you is start your videos with the sound you will be presenting. Too much talk and scrolling to get there. Great content though
