THANK YOU, finally someone else is liking this movie. I was young when I saw this movie and I was wondering "what's with all the hype about Spielberg movies?". This movie made me accept the fact that he's a master director (as I said, I was young).
+Efe Aydal I loved the Lost World as well. I honestly dont think its better than the first, but i prefer to watch it over the first......? yea.. whatever. it makes no goddamn sense.
After fiirst time watching : "Yeah, it's pretty fun, all those T - Rex and pew pew pew, explosions, dinosaurs!" After reading the critics : "This film is garbage, it is not great AT ALL!" After watching Chris's review : "Man! This movie IS GOOD, i'm sorry for the hate last time, but still I hate Jurassic Park 3!" Is it only me, or others can easily be manipulated by others?
If you don’t pay attention to the Lost World, and miss out on the theme and quirky characteristics. When I was younger I didn’t understand most of the movie, and felt it was bad. Rewatched it, and realized it’s a fucking amazing movie.
+Brian Rose that's what the picture would suggest. But alas it is not so. He is telling an off camera crew worker where he wants the dinosaur to be facing. But him directing the dino how to act is a cooler thought
+Brian Rose Some directors do talk to the puppets. when they talk to the big intricate machines like that, they are really talking to the entire puppeteer staff. Most of them are run by multiple people, so it makes sense to say "ok rex, i want you to bend down, look left and right with a head tilt towards the camera, open and close the mouth slightly, then a huge head lifting roar." That right there gives like 5 people directions all at once, in a completely comprehensive way, that only takes about 8 seconds to say.
***** The effects are great. After rewatching the movie reciently, it holds up just as greatly as Jurassic Park. They are really good. The music is really good. John Williams is on fire at times!. The background, sets, and atmosphere are really well done. The Camerawork is astounding, really good job that allows for really nice set pieces that are well composed and full of tension. While the characters aren't really memorable and not 100% developed at times, the acting is solid. And a lot more that NC just doesn't think about and helped to ruin this movie's reputation.
I don't think this movie's bad but it's pretty underwhelming. Re-watch the opening to the first one and the first time u see the dinosaurs in the first one and compare it to this one. There's no sense of awe or wonder, it felt like it was just going through the motions
I like your breakdown of this movie, i never thought this movie was that bad but I'm not one for explaining what i see. The points you made were great! :-)
What I love about this movie is that it has a darker atmosphere unlike the first movie, it makes the whole man vs. Nature theme feel more threatening while these characters are fighting for their lives running from the dinosaurs. That T-Rex trailer scene is one of the most intense and suspenseful moments I've seen in any movie. Yeah, I don't get why people hate this movie either, I think it's a decent sequel.
It's because of a few plot holes and character inconsistency. Like Julianne Moore is all "leave nature alone" and "Dinosaurs are our friends, not foes" but she contradicts herself. Constantly. Also the dinosaurs on the ship carnage. Am I to believe a huge ass dino managed to get its head in the control room with no damage, ate the person pushing the close button then thought "oh damn, I'd better get into the hatch before it closes" and ... did? We can forgive things if we are pulled into the world and invested but because we aren't it sticks out more.
Exactly! Everything you said is spot on and I truly believe TLW is an underrated film that receives unnecessary hate (That goes to JP3). It's not as good as the first one but it's still by far my personal favorite JP movie. Btw that San Diego rampage scene is so badass.
@@HejaWolf It has some really good scenes but it lacks character which the first had a load of and they could’ve built those characters from the first more and it would make the sequel more compelling cause you’d be more attached. Roland and Sarah I’d say are the only good additions and Ludlow is a decent antagonist. Malcom doesn’t really have the same charm as in the first and Hammond is only in it for a cameo pretty much.
How about Pete Postlethwaite as Roland Tembo? His lines were amazing. One of my favorite characters of all time. "Remember that chap about twenty years ago? I forget his name. Climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. When they asked him, they said why did you go up there to die? He said I didn't, I went up there to live."
The number one criticism I've heard about this movie is how different it is from the book. Well, newsflash, THE BOOK WAS NEVER GOING TO EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE. It was written AFTER the Jurassic Park movie came out; Ian Malcolm surviving was a direct response to his popularity in the JP movie. So who really cares? JW is often considered better than TLW cuz it mirrors JP (the same way people like to suggest TFA is better than the Star Wars prequels cuz it mirrors A New Hope). I HATE PEOPLE WHO THINK THIS WAY. Lack of originality should not be celebrated!
Why did so many hate this movie? Yeah I understand JP3 but we'll stay away from that. But when I was little I loved this movie and I watched recently and I still do. It had more dinosaurs and Goldblum! Yeah it had some stupid and silly moments but you can't tell me it wasn't a guilty pleasure to watch a T. Rex run havoc in San Diego? Guilty pleasure movie?
Zivko I guess if you are a PETA apologizer, a fan of the dumbest protagonist in history, and can ignore T. Rex size plot holes, then sure I guess you'd had fun with it.
I like this film but the element of the characters in the first having fun and surviving throughout the film makes it more fun while everyone for most of it is in survival mode. Also the imagery and elements in the first is very satisfying, if you notice a lot of the film is very crunchy and edible looking lol.
I love both Jurassic Park and The Lost World. They were my favorite movies from my childhood. I slightly like the Lost World a little more than Jurassic Park because I really love the adventure tone it had. I felt like I was on an expedition and adventure whether I was watching this movie. I really love the idea of INGEN hiring a small army of hunters to capture dinosaurs while John Hammond and Ian Malcolm are trying to protect the dinosaurs. There are so many unforgettable scenes in this movie. Just thinking about brings back so much nostalgia. I don't get why some people hate this movie. I still think it's amazing.
Wow, really great review! I loved TLW when I was younger, and later when I got older I heard people didn't like it and I didn't understand why; but I think you're totally right. It's being too harshly compared to the first movie. The reason I like TLW is BECAUSE it feels like a different movie; I love the whole "team vs team/jungle safari" kinda theme. This movie somehow feels more primal. JP is my favorite, but TLW is a close second!
I don’t understand why people actually love the lost world, it’s so bad in my opinion. I never understood the movie at all and it doesn’t make sense at all it’s just boring and it sucks
How come whenever I look through the comments there's a guy talking about Cory in the House? Is there an inside joke I don't know about, or is it just a "darude-sandstorm" quip?
I can only justify my reasons for hating this movie, and I'll explain it here. - Steven Spielberg created the JP film based on Crichtons novel (about 75% accuracy to the novel) to huge success. Fans beg for sequel. - Crichton firmly states that he does not write sequels. However, Spielberg continues to pressure Crichton to write a sequel, so he can base a 2nd film on his writing. - Crichton caves and writes a second novel, which was incredible. - Spielberg then adapts the book to film and probably keeps 5% of the story content. Most of the changes are weird and also have no continuity. So we never got to see a faithful adaptation of the second book, which is a great book. And I find it so insulting that Spielberg did that after pressuring Crichton to write the book in the first place. Also fun fact: the opening scene from tlw film actually came from a the first jp book
I agree this movie is really awful but it’s not really Spielberg’s fault for pressuring Michael Crichton for nothing when all of these problems are on David Koepp and his really really terrible script. But yeah screw this movie seriously, “JUST TURN YOUR BRAIN OFF” if I need to not think to enjoy a movie, it’s probably just not good movie.
This is more a critique of the movie in comparison to the book. Fair enough to do but I think it should be separate from a critique of just the film on it's own. Also, I never noticed any glaring continuity errors in TLW, could you explain that?
I always loved TLW !!!! Yeah its not as good as the original JP movie but it is such a FUN flick! ....but what i never understood was why so many people bash The Lost World so harshly but then cutt JP3 a break!!??? Really!!!?? JP3 is easily the worst of all the Jurassic Sequels!! JP3 Characters are lame (besides Dr. Grant) and the entire story is just weak sauce when compared to the first 2 films! 1st - Jurassic Park 2nd Jurassic World is tied with The Lost World JP 3rd Jurassic Park 3
i always hear so much hate towards JP3 and lost world gets a pass I think all the JP movies are ok the first one and world are good lost world is alright and the 3 one ks so-so
Sawyer Sabol I've seen people say TLW JP's story was LAME and stupid and the characters were DULL & Annoying. But then they claim JP3 was so much better?? ... and im here trying to comprehend how JP3s characters are better than TLW's characters??? I can....NOT....STAND....the Kirbys..... And JP3s whole story revolves around the Kirby family.... i don't see how its at all in any way better than The Lost World.... when it comes to characters or story.
@@JPToys97 The lost world SUCKS 👎🏻 it IS lame. I don’t see how it is any better then Jurassic park 3, I love Jurassic park 3, it’s more entertaining and enjoyable then the lost world, the lost world gets a C- 1st Jurassic Park 2nd Jurassic Park 3 3rd the lost world jurassic park
Damian Clark Why is the idea that allowing dinosaurs to just live on their own is automatically a PETA idea? I hate PETA but also agree with just leaving the Dinosaurs on the island and let life find a way...
Peter Fisher It wasn't just that idea, it was the fact that they were willing to let so many people die, and put themselves in danger for it that pushes it to PETA territory. I mean seriously, they brought a Baby T-Rex into the trailer and didn't even think that would blowback in their faces?
very few movie reviewers on TH-cam can say they enjoyed The Lost World: Jurassic Park due to the fact that the cinematography and so on. Well said. I still dislike it but well said.
Close but I'd say Porco Rosso by Studio Ghibli because everyone ignores that animated film and it's really complex and deep, for some reason people don't even know that movie exists, but at least people know about The Lost World- even if it's super underrated.
Yeah it’s a truly indie arthouse foreign hidden gem that made nothing at the box office, 600 million dollars at the box office, what a flop, didn’t win any Oscars either, only nominated for Razzies, its also directed by underrated overlooked indie filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
Fantastic Review. Excellent defense of the film. I also really like this movie and find it to be very underrated. I do have a few more problems with the film. But for the most part its pretty awesome. Great job Chris.
it wasn't bad but it wasn't ultra-super-break the worlds amazing best movie of the era insane but it really doesn't deserve all the bashing n' thrashing
Starlight Official say what you will about the city scene I loved it. Im sure any kid has imagined that senario dozens of times too and it was so gratifying seeing it in a movie done well. I wish there were more with the Dino's on the Mainland
One of the things I love about this film is the music. A great transition in tone from the first film. And that scene when the raptors attack.... The music is spot on!
Jurassic World: simple, fun, dino-action movie = good The Lost World: BETTER simple, fun, dino-action movie = bad It irks me to no end the people who bash this movie. Even looking at it objectively, it is a superiorly crafted summer blockbuster.
My main issue with the film was that it presented the "heroes", especially Nick van Owen, as serious assholes that would make PETA proud. I can understand why they want to save the dinosaurs, but that doesn't change the fact that their actions, from secretly unlocking the dino cages and sabotaging Tembo's gun, directly led to the deaths of dozens of men who weren't even particularly evil, just guys doing their jobs. Hell, the hunters even go out of their way to SAVE the people responsible for stranding them on the island! Hell, even Ludlow, the main "villain" of the film, isn't particularly evil, either. Just slightly misguided. To me, the Ingen hunters are far more heroic than the actual intended protagonists of the film.
Winters004 Not the main protagonists, just Nick. I can see why Sarah would go along and would want to release the dinosaurs as they believe that they will break out once they arrive in San Diego and harm innocent civilians(which is what happens), that to me is questionable but overall justifiable enough that I can overlook it. However what I can't overlook is Nick stealing Roland's bullets allowing many hunters to die in the process. No one else was in danger, just them and the hunters so he had no excuse.
+RetroGamerAaron I just assumed that Nick though the baby T. Rex would be taken care of right before the parents came back. Besides, nobody's perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.
That's his character, though. Right off the get go when we meet Nick we see who he is, and I don't see why people who bash this film count him as one of the main characters. Ian is our protagonist and both Eddie and Nick are outsiders, to him. We as the audience aren't supposed to identify with Nick; he's a supporting character and an unwitting antagonist. I think his character is really well-written, but he is a douche and is directly responsible for dozens of people being killed so is he likeable? Yes and no. He's the Nedry of the film.
I love the shot in the end, when script writer David Koepp is eaten by the T-Rex. (I think it's a joke, because he was against the finale in San Diego - So let the monster eat the author!)
your feelings on Lost World are the same way I feel about '98 Godzilla...I know it's an unpopular opinion, but don't care...I was just a kid when I saw it, so whatever....Lost World though, not so much
SunWukong4 I'd rather watch A giant Iguana than a Movie that stars Godzilla for only 15 minutes. You don't know what a good movie is even if it slaps you in the face. You have horrible taste in cinema
"The Lost World" has one huuuuge plot hole. after the ship crashed into the san diego harbor, you can see the crew got killed by... what exactly? the t-rex is below deck. i don't think that she broke out, killed the entire crew (also carefully ate the guy at the steering wheel, without breaking something inside the cabin) and than got back into the cargo area, waiting for someone to free her again.
nph53 so you have to show everything for you to understand it? Honestly, you didnt even think about the fact that it might have been the raptors? So you just watch every movie and want every information be spoonfed to you, because you are too lazy to think? Wow, talk about independent-minded
My big problem with The Lost World is that you just can't sympathise with the 'good' characters because they cause most of the problems themselves. They bring the Baby T-Rex back to their van......wtf did they think was going to happen? They sabotage guns from the bad guys camps and as a direct result people die. Sure the corporation guys were assholes, but the good guys were dumb. And if you can't sympathise with them then much of the tension leaves the film because you just don't care if they live or die. Contrast that to the first film, where I did identify with the characters more and hence the action meant more. So yes the film making and technical aspects of this film are still really high (and is what separates this film IMO from JP3), but the movie itself is just so disappointing. It could had easily been so much more if there was a better script to go along with Spielberg's master craftsmanship.
aussiebounty You are pretty much right with your statement there but I think the only Good Character you are meaning who is Dumb was Vince Vaughn’s Character Nick Van Owen! He was the one who persisted in bringing the Infant T-Rex back to the Trailer to help it and He was also the only one who took the real bullets out of Roland Tembo’s Gun and exchanged them with Fake ones! So yeah Nick Van Owen was a Complete Idiot in The Lost World but apart from that I overall agree with Chris Stuckmann. The Lost World: Jurassic Park is a Fun Enjoyable Movie Dinosaur Flick with Great Characters like Ian Malcolm and Roland Tenno! And it also has a lot more Dinosaurs than the first one so what’s not to like?
Nick Van Owen was mostly responsible for all the deaths in Lost World for releasing dinosaurs and taking bullets from Roland Tembo's gun. Sarah was partly responsinle for assisting Nick and not taking blood soaked jacket off sooner that could leave the scent of Baby T-Rex. Malcolm had nothing to do with. Only thing he wanted to was to get Sarah, Kelly and others away from the Island. Also in the comic adaptation Malcolm was into killing Tyrannosaurus and was shocked that Tembo's gun was empty.
So this is an old as comment but as someone who has liked this movie since I first saw it, this was always the only glaring problem that the movie had in my opinion, and the main thing that held it back from being on the level of the first film. However, I have watched this review numerous times and rewatched the movie several times recently and one thing Stuckmann says in this review got me thinking. This line is "this movie was more about exploring Ian Malcolm's character". When thinking about Malcolm as the sole lead of the movie, and his dilemma of wanting nothing to do with the island, and constantly urging people not to go or not wanting any Dinosaurs to be taken off the island, but he has to go through it all to try to get Sarah off the island. During analyzing I thought about Nick Van Owen as less of a main character/hero (they even take him out of the last act completely) and how his poor decisions to take the baby rex in, which Sarah disagreed with btw, and also to take the bullets out of Roland's gun could be seen as increasing Malcolm's internal struggle how people are constantly not listening to him. I still do not think it is a full excuse for that aspect of the story telling but it's surely something to think about.
They brought the t rex to the van because how you mentioned it the good guys are the good guys and like in any good movies if they are perfect the plot wont be interesting at all and if you cannot sympathise with iam malcong or ronald tembo or sarah harding then thats not the movies problem anymore every protaganist has to fail to move the plot forwards could the movie been better maybe but steven spielberg did not have a lot to work with but he definatly gave it he's 100% and after all it is still the second best dinosaur film of all time...
I would love to see Nostalgia Critic and Chris Stuckmann in the same room arguing about Signs and Jurassic Park The Lost World. Each of their differing opinions on both those movies would make a monumental debate.
One thing I like about this movie is that there are times when it doesn't feel scripted. When characters don't seem to know what to say and do, or they interrupt one another or hold parallel conversations. It makes it seem more natural, more real, than when all the dialogue just flows seamlessly, as if the characters were reading their lines off a piece of paper.
I actually don't care what other humans think of this film..... I loved it. That's all that matters to me. Any flaws found within this film by others are from absolute haters. Yep, I said it..... haters. The Lost World was AWESOME!! Fuck with nature, and you shall lose. Seriously.... I am still so impressed with this sequel, that I highly doubt that any future sequel can live up to it. I so hope Fallen Kingdom can be as awesome as this entry, but (and as much as I hope I'm wrong) I feel like I'll be let down. The reason I loved it so much was the sounds, the visuals of the locks used, the sounds that the original Jurassic Park used so perfectly. The gates locking, the doors locking, the sounds of the crane feeding the raptors etc. EVERYTHING matters. Jurassic World (1) was good...... not excellent, but good. - Chris Pratt was perfect. - Indominus Rex was friggen awesome - But the feel.... the music... was off. I genuinely cried..... and I mean a lot during the Apatasaurus death scene, but (Guys.... stick to the original Jurassic score) everything else, left me needing more... I really don't want to be seen as a hater of these sequels, because I truely love them all. Jurassic is my life! I just want someone to make a legit R18+ sequel that scares EVERYONE.
I very much agree. Also, I love this film's homages to old-school adventure films like the OG Lost World and the 1930s King Kong. Hell, the ship that crashes in San Diego is even called the SS Venture, the ship from King Kong. You can tell Spielberg was having fun paying tribute to his favorite movie classics.
also, I saw this film in theaters (born in 85) and it was a standing room theater. I was lucky enough to have a seat with my friend but there were tons on people sitting on the isle and people standing.
I can't stand Vince Vaughn's character in this movie, or any movie he's in really. Almost every single death in the film is on that characters hands. That eco terrorism BS he pulls purposely setting all the dinosaurs free knowing dam well what was going to happen. As for the evil corporate Ingen CEO? He was the guy who sent a team of trained experts in with all the tech, survival, gear, and resources they could possibly need to survive and complete their mission he's even there on foot with his men not lounging back in some cushy office. There were dozens of other ways they could have set those creatures loose for the story without having our supposed heroic "protagonist" acting in such idiocy. His acts are so murderous that no matter how harshly the villains are forced to act to subdue the dinosaurs (because the script says they're villains) they still wind up looking way better than any of the two faced leads who are constantly lying to each other / ignoring strict orders given with their best intentions for survival in mind. It ends up falling into that terrible horror movie cliche were we wind up rooting for the villains, in this case the dinosaurs, to win. Beyond that there isn't a thing wrong with the film making or effects its all top notch... the script though.
I love this movie too. Gladly I saw this when I was a childhood, that way I always have nostalgic memories with it. It was thrilling, though not as much as the first one, and it has characters with their stories. It is always entertaining to see a movie digging into its characters.
The Lost World actually my favorite Jurassic movie up till today. It's a sense of going from one place to another adventure to the sense to survival in the other half of the movie, where they trying to run away from T-Rex and Raptor. And when you think it's over when they're off the island. Boom! T-Rex in the city, it's plus! Temple of Doom also my favorite Indian Jone movie, probably the best of all, cause it's like a true adventure, not say Raider is not, but Doom is just bigger adventure.
The Lost world is my least favorite movie in the Jurassic franchise, its not bad it’s just ok. Temple of doom is a good one but it’s no where near as good as raiders of the lost ark, I do think it’s pretty dark with a few gross and disturbing scenes that I did not like but the movie itself is pretty entertaining
Wait...people dislike this movie? I thought that both the first Jurassic Park and the 2nd Jurassic Park were considered perfect? I never heard of anyone complaining about the 2nd Jurassic Park. I've only heard of people complaining about the 3rd movie.
The Angry Little Alchemist No, many people disliked the second one. I never got the hate, its not a terrible movie, its certainly not "perfect" though.
Finally someone that also thinks this was a very good sequel, which in itself was was a very difficult feat to achieve. I applaude you sir for going against the status quo and intelligently defending your appreciation for this movie. Well done, fantastic review Chris!
Only watched the JP movies last year and loved the first 2 (although the "ALAN" scene is amazing in 3) then I found out that people didn't like 2 and I was shocked (because I prefer it to the first, pls don't kill meh)
Armageddon3035 love the trailer scene, the grass raptor scene, the annoying kid is less annoying than the annoying kid in the first and more Ian Malcolm, gotta love that guy.
Ah its so good to find someone to agree with. That sequence of Sarah, Ian, and Nick almost falling from the cliff always gives me such an intense feeling and keeps my heart racing.
Finally! someone who gives this movie the respect that it deserves!. I hated the review from Nostalgia Critic, as well as his review for JW (seriously, fuck that review).
I genuinely think Jurassic Park: The Lost World is as good as Jurassic Park 1. And Jurassic Park 1 is my all time favorite movie. I think a big part of this is that TLW has some incredibly iconic scenes pulled almost straight from the book. The cliff scene with the trailers comes to mind. I feel like parts of this movie as just as iconic as the original.
As a kid, I loved this movie, probably watched it more times than the first film. Now, although I recognise the first film is a tighter, better product, I think I *still* enjoy rewatching this one more. I like the dark tone, the grim soundtrack, the interplay between all the sarcastic, dry-witted characters like Eddie and Ian Malcolm etc. I will always love this film
JP2 was great because it felt lengthily in the good way, the peril of uneasiness felt sustained throughout the movie, and the San Fancisco chapter was riveting because it was like: "You made it off of the island! are you safe? NOPE!"
Just saw this review today. Thank you. I couldn't have said better. The Lost World really doesn't receive as much credit as it should. Nick Van Owen : The animal exists on the planet for the first time in tens of millions of years and the only way you can express yourself is to kill it. Roland Tembo : Remember that chap about twenty years ago? I forget his name. Climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. When they asked him, they said why did you go up there to die? He said I didn't, I went up there to live.
woo finally some else who likes this movie, i have always liked jurassic park 2 while not as good as the first it is much better than the 3rd and still a pretty good movie
michael hudson I kind of agree with you on those ratings, but in my opinion JP3 6/10 (Not that it makes much of a difference haha) and then Jurassic World prediction 8.5 possibly a 9/10. I have a lot of faith in Colin, as does Spielberg.
***** yeah i have hope and 7 isent to bad i just dont think it will be the smartest movie but will be good fun (7/10 is about what i would give thor for comparison)
It's so good to see more and more people come out saying this movies good, I grew up with both it and the first and absolutely love them. The writing isn't as tight for this one as the first but it's still great and I was shocked when I got older and learned how many people hate it
To this day, I still think The Lost World: Jurassic Park is an enjoyable sequel. I don't get the hate for it either. It still had some thrilling and suspenseful moments in it. I really hope the upcoming Jurassic World 1-ups it though. :)
"The Lost World" might be Spielberg's most commercialized film. It is pretty generic to be honest, and especially feels like it was only made for money. However, it is still not a bad film and parts of it can be enjoyed (Goldblum!).
Tyler Scott You can't just blame Spielberg for that one. Gotta give some credit to George Lucas' terrible ideas, and pushing Spielberg to make the movie in the first p;ace. That guy just shits up anything he touches.
When I was a kid I loved the first Jurassic Park. When this sequel was on tv I was so excited to see it. Unsurprsingly I fell asleep while watching it. It wasn't even that late. If a movie about dinosaurs puts a young dino-nerd boy to sleep, you got a problem. When I woke up I was so upset because I didn't get to finish the movie and it might not be on tv for a year or longer. When I finally got to see it from the beginning till the end I hated it. Mostly because it was different, but also because I hated all of the chracters, they were so boring. Maybe I would appreciate it more watching it today, but unlikely. The whole main theme of the movie is stupid. Environmental message doesn't work if the nature they try to save isn't natural. These dinosaurs were created by humans. When they got to the island they completely destroyed the natural ecosystem there. You know what people do with invasive species? Shoot them, because they hurt the natural environment. What's the deal with not letting those guys putting dinosaurs in the zoo? Don't we have zoos with real life animals? Yes we do. So what's the problem with putting man made creatures behind bars? Chris didn't convince me. This movie is bad even if it's well directed.
Matthew Schoolcraft The first movie was more about criticizing the revival of the dinosaurs, playing god and being reckless about it, not about zoos being a bad idea. I do feel sorry for most of the animals in the zoos, but if I had to choose to stop people from capturing either endagered cats or dinosaurs that weren't even alive for millions of years, I'd save the real animals. Also, dinosaur zoo needs to exist, people got to see them, otherwise they serve no purpoise in the world. It's impossible that the unnatural ecosystem in Sorna island is sustainable. One day all these dinosaurs will probably starve to death anyway. Before they go people would risk their lives going to the island just to have a look. Wouldn't you want to see them? A zoo in San Diego would save both the people from beeing eaten on an island and the dinosaurs that shouldn't be in the wild in the first place.
Matthew Schoolcraft Because they weren't careful enough. People contain a lot of deadly animals in zoos. It's rare that any of them escape or kill people. Dinosaurs aren't any more different.
The Lost World is awesome, and so is that Tyrannosaurus scene with the two parents.... But Rexy's introduction in the first film is one of the most legendary introductions of all time
Caleb, you know exactly what to say, to get me upset. I have feelings too. I apologized to Roboboomstick already in a message. I decided to leave my obscene comment Bc it reminds me that I too can be rude and say things that might hurt people's feelings. I love you, Caleb.
Jurassic Park:10/10 The Lost World: 9.5/10 Jurassic Park///: 6/10 Jurassic World: 9.5/10 My favorite is obviously Jurassic Park my second is a tie between The Lost World and Jurassic World I love both too much to pick. Obviously last is Jurassic Park/// not near as fun or good as the other 3.
Excellent review as always Chris I never personally understood the hate for this movie its excellent in my opinion it gives an actual closer view of what a world of dinosaurs would actually be like and between 1&2 this is actually my favorite of the franchise
I agree with you! another scene i think is kinda flat is when Sara in the final scene drops when the velocirraptors are fighting and she inmediatly get caught by militars... what do yoy Think?
Ok what about the plot hole of the whole crew getting killed. That made no sense, the t rex could of not have killed the whole crew. I Still love this movie though. 8/10
JOE40341 Don't you get it? Clearly the ghost of the T-rex from the first film was haunting the boat so it could get revenge on the people for playing God and to free it's captured sister.
Eidlones In the books they explain that the Dinosaurs have been designed to age faster and they only live to be be about 20 years old. Considering it was a fully grown T-rex in the first film then by the time it gets to Jurasic World she would have died of old age.
JOE40341 Spielberg or someone explained somewhere that they had intended to show that (or had filmed but decided to to use the footage) raptors attacked the ship and killed the crew. I can't recall where this was exactly, but a few minutes on Google found the answer for me previously, should do the same for you if you really care.
I think you are awesome, and usually, even when I disagree with you, I can at least understand where you are coming from (you just wrong about "Prometheus"), but here, your reasoning makes little sense to me. I get that you find the technical aspects of the movie to be very good- and they (mostly) are- but no character has an actual arc, the dialogue is all either poorly done exposition or bad comedy (excluding the "cut from the team" bit. That is funny), add to that the fact that our 'heroes' are in the wrong for the entirety of the plot, and the reason everyone hates the last third is because it is not just because how it gets there makes little sense (it makes less than that), but also because it feels too much like a generic giant monster runs amok in a city film (the "Godzilla" movies for example), and is far too goofy of a turn for this movie to take. I really like that you appreciate that this was never intended to be a simple retread, but they forgot the thing that made the first one so good- awe-inspiring moments. This movie never stops, so all the action bleeds together and becomes boring. I feel like you are just fanboying over a Spielberg movie, as opposed to actually having a critical eye on it. Side note- for more shots like what you describe above, please see anything by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, or "Dead Silence", which has some of the coolest transition scenes in any movie ever. Clever editing and good special effects alone don't make a movie. Unfortunate, but true.
Thank you! I usually completely agree with Chris Stuckmann and like you, even when I don't I still understand his points. I'm genuinely shocked that he loves this movie. I'm also blown away that so many others think so highly of it. Yes, it was a well shot film, but much of the story, especially the last act, leaves little to be desired. Especially when you consider the source material of the book. Why did they deviate so far from it? It was such an amazing book that still had a completely different feel from the first. I don't understand the decision to make a monster rampaging in the city kind of movie. This movie is littered with plot holes that make the last act completely nonsensical. I agree with you that a well shot film does not make a good film.
I love having just rewatched this and coming over to YT to see if you'd covered it. I was worried that you were going to have a "bad review", but was so happy to see that you shared all the same opinions I have on it. The trailers over the cliff scene is SO good and I love all the character set up we'd already gotten up to that point. "That my lucky pack" "It's a High Hide" Ian and his daughters relationship, Ian and his girlfriend's relationship. We get so much exposition early on that it makes us care about the character also relatively early. The poachers coming in hot and heavy immediately makes sense with little explanation. The pace of this movie is incredible. I usually pause movies and watch in pieces, but TLW had me locked in at every moment. Not to mention the CGI stand up WAY better than newer Jurassic films.
one of my favorite scene in this movie, is when the raptors attack the human pack while they're walking through the long grass
DONT GO TO THE LONG GRASS!!!!!!
John Stanly OMG That’s ridiculous. You enjoy watching all those poor men getting killed. That is so heartless.
Max Neugebauer yo chill
DON'T GO INTO THE LONG GRASS! NOT THE LONG GRASS!
I never knew he said that until recently lol
THANK YOU, finally someone else is liking this movie. I was young when I saw this movie and I was wondering "what's with all the hype about Spielberg movies?". This movie made me accept the fact that he's a master director (as I said, I was young).
+Efe Aydal i like this movie a lot!!
this movie is a good movie not as Epic as the original Jurassic Park in factbut it is not Epic but it is in underrated sequel.
look I like this movie too but THIS was the film that made you see Spielberg's excellence
+Efe Aydal I loved the Lost World as well. I honestly dont think its better than the first, but i prefer to watch it over the first......? yea.. whatever. it makes no goddamn sense.
Yeah I still don't know why people hate the movie
I can't wait for your review of JP3. 'ALAN!'
George Simmonds Compies!!
That part always cracks my dad and I up 😂
George Simmonds hahaha, worse dream ever!
That's a VERY BAD IDEA.
George Simmonds You freaked me out with that... now i'm gonna have nightmares about a Raptor calmly saying 'Alan' again -'J
After fiirst time watching : "Yeah, it's pretty fun, all those T - Rex and pew pew pew, explosions, dinosaurs!"
After reading the critics : "This film is garbage, it is not great AT ALL!"
After watching Chris's review : "Man! This movie IS GOOD, i'm sorry for the hate last time, but still I hate Jurassic Park 3!"
Is it only me, or others can easily be manipulated by others?
I'm like that with everything.
Alex Rai K People shouldn’t rely on rotten tomatoes for film opinions. Not ignore the website, but not act like it’s the universal film opinion.
If you don’t pay attention to the Lost World, and miss out on the theme and quirky characteristics.
When I was younger I didn’t understand most of the movie, and felt it was bad. Rewatched it, and realized it’s a fucking amazing movie.
Alex Rai K YES.
IMO, TLW:JP2 is the worst of the 3 IMO, and JP3 is my favorite.
I think none of the Jurassic movie are bad and disappointing
I agree this movie is underrated
Boba Fett nope it sucks
Leo B but I like it.
Yeah it's good.
@@leob4403 it really doesnt
@@TypicalTip Don't need to get offensive only because a different point of view.
Was that a pic of Spielberg talking to a dinosaur ?......like he was directing the dinosaur how to act??
This is one of the greatest comments I've ever read.
Most of them are run by multiple people, so it makes sense to say "ok rex, i want you to bend down, look left and right with a head tilt towards the camera, open and close the mouth slightly, then a huge head lifting roar."
That right there gives like 5 people directions all at once, in a completely comprehensive way, that only takes about 8 seconds to say.
"Alright, so Spike, that lady's gonna hold the camera up at you, and when it starts making noises I want you to start crying, okay?"
You mean he wasn't? :o
So refreshing to hear praise for this underrated movie.
I give "The Lost Word" an edge over Jurassic World. My order: JP, TLW, JW, & JP 3
Agreed entirely.
+Alexander Love perfect
Agreed.
poifect
I totally agree.
Excellent review. I think this film is one of the most underrated films that I've ever seen, especially considering the director.
I rewatched this and you're right. It's really not that bad
Agreed! I rewatched 20 minutes ago. He's right.
***** He missed so many points about the film. Hated that review.
You are inherently wrong.
I like your breakdown of this movie, i never thought this movie was that bad but I'm not one for explaining what i see. The points you made were great! :-)
Oh, hey X! Didn't know you were into movies that much! :D
wow that's cool that you watch Chris! both of you are great TH-camrs!
xisumavoid Holy shit you are everywhere
xisumavoid hi x love you, remember me?
Turtle Lord me too
What I love about this movie is that it has a darker atmosphere unlike the first movie, it makes the whole man vs. Nature theme feel more threatening while these characters are fighting for their lives running from the dinosaurs. That T-Rex trailer scene is one of the most intense and suspenseful moments I've seen in any movie. Yeah, I don't get why people hate this movie either, I think it's a decent sequel.
This movie is really boring and it’s not fun at all to watch
I love the Lost World! It's pretty underrated in my opinion and I love almost everything about the film.
Eh I don’t care about Roland tembo, he’s not amazing at all

I rewatched this movie 20 minutes ago, and man, you are right, this film is better than I remember. Slightly better than JW IMO.
***** Fuckin loved the Spinosaurus
***** it felt like a generic monster movie or something, not a JP movie
BlackSmokeDemon the Spinosaurus was pretty cool
Zivko I guess if you are a PETA apologizer, a fan of the dumbest protagonist in history, and can ignore T. Rex size plot holes, then sure I guess you'd had fun with it.
BlackSmokeDemon Don't remember Ingen being part of the government, news to me I suppose.
OMG Chris, I completely agree with you, I've loved this movie since I was a kid and I still can't get all the criticism this film gets.
I still think it's amazing.
broo this comment 🤧
I love this movie. I agree with you Chris.

Adrian Meza I didn't know Spielberg directed an anime.
I like Pete Postlethwaite in this movie. He had this air of badassery to him
MVP
Nah he’s such a boring character in my opinion.
Also, I never noticed any glaring continuity errors in TLW, could you explain that?
good thing i dont read books at all.
This is because TLW movie is more based in TLW by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle than the LW written by Crichton
1st - Jurassic Park
2nd Jurassic World is tied with The Lost World JP
3rd Jurassic Park 3
i always hear so much hate towards JP3 and lost world gets a pass I think all the JP movies are ok the first one and world are good lost world is alright and the 3 one ks so-so
Sawyer Sabol I've seen people say TLW JP's story was LAME and stupid and the characters were DULL & Annoying.
I liked all , even the third one . It was more of a guilty pleasure
RedHannya even Grant was completely ruined.

Awesome review! Finally someone else who agrees Lost World is actually a good film! It is very entertaining!
Peter Fisher PETA apologist...
Damian Clark Nope I hate PETA.
Peter Fisher That's all the Lost World was, a 2 hour long ad for PETA and the dangers of locking up animals in Zoos...
The Lost world is the most underrated movie ever!!!!
@@blunew467 lmao 😂😂
I think a different Universal movie that's also a sequel is a lot more underrated.

One of the things I love about this film is the music. A great transition in tone from the first film. And that scene when the raptors attack.... The music is spot on!
This is my favorite movie in the franchise. Didn't realize it was hated in the fandom, but I love it.
Jurassic World: simple, fun, dino-action movie = good
The Lost World: BETTER simple, fun, dino-action movie = bad
It irks me to no end the people who bash this movie. Even looking at it objectively, it is a superiorly crafted summer blockbuster.
I knew there was a reason I loved you, Chris. I completely concur with your opinion on this film. Always loved it. It's the 3rd one that sucks.
+RetroGamerAaron
I just assumed that Nick though the baby T. Rex would be taken care of right before the parents came back. Besides, nobody's perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.
This is my primary fault with this movie. The Earth First guy is an eco-terrorist.
This is my primary fault with this movie. The Earth First guy is an eco-terrorist.
(I think it's a joke, because he was against the finale in San Diego - So let the monster eat the author!)
your feelings on Lost World are the same way I feel about '98 Godzilla...I know it's an unpopular opinion, but don't care...I was just a kid when I saw it, so whatever....Lost World though, not so much
Couch Tomato Yeah I agree, the 98' Godzilla is 10x better than the recent one!!
FuckYoBitch Godzilla 2014 XInfinity >>>98 Doomsday with AIDS.
SunWukong4 you barely even see Godzilla in the recent movie. All that movie did was just tease the audience. I hated that movie with a passion.
FuckYoBitch I would rather see the real Godzilla than a giant iguana.
SunWukong4 I'd rather watch A giant Iguana than a Movie that stars Godzilla for only 15 minutes. You don't know what a good movie is even if it slaps you in the face. You have horrible taste in cinema
The Lost World was definitely my favorite movie when I was a kid.
Finally someone who shares my opinion!
"The Lost World" has one huuuuge plot hole. after the ship crashed into the san diego harbor, you can see the crew got killed by... what exactly? the t-rex is below deck. i don't think that she broke out, killed the entire crew (also carefully ate the guy at the steering wheel, without breaking something inside the cabin) and than got back into the cargo area, waiting for someone to free her again.
manulito2 Originally Raptors were suppose to have boarded the ship and killed the crew ( if I remember correctly)
The raptors. Its not a plot hole
starkingbiker its a plot hole if they don't show it.
nph53 so you have to show everything for you to understand it? Honestly, you didnt even think about the fact that it might have been the raptors? So you just watch every movie and want every information be spoonfed to you, because you are too lazy to think?
Wow, talk about independent-minded
starkingbiker there are no raptors on the boat in the finished film.
Those hunters weren’t the bad guys. The two T-Rexes were the antagonists. They should have had those two animals killed.
+Jonathan Sefcik That format reminds me a lot of his Man of Steel review with Angry Joe.
- Indominus Rex was friggen awesome
- But the feel.... the music...

THANK YOU. The Lost World gets so much hate and it's actually a pretty great movie.
The scene where she is laying on the glass window, with the glass slowly cracking!! So well done! I also love the Raptors in the grass!
also, I saw this film in theaters (born in 85) and it was a standing room theater. I was lucky enough to have a seat with my friend but there were tons on people sitting on the isle and people standing.
I'm glad to see Chris give this movie some love. I really loved this film as a kid and still enjoy it, to this day.
Lost world was my favorite of the Jurassic Park movies. It really is underrated. Your Jeff Goldblum lines are on point btw.
God, I loved this movie. And loved the toys. Also played that PS1 game haha.
the second is my fav....i donno why people complain about it
1st - 8/10
2nd - 9/10
3rd - 7/10
matthew tonna I didn't like it as much as Jurassic Park, but I loved this one as well!
The Lost World Jurassic Park is one of the most underrated sequels in cinema. Like, it’s as good as a sequel as The Empire Strikes Back!!!
Only watched the JP movies last year and loved the first 2 (although the "ALAN" scene is amazing in 3) then I found out that people didn't like 2 and I was shocked (because I prefer it to the first, pls don't kill meh)
You like LW over JP? CRUCIFIXION!
(jk, I don't mind even though I didn't like LW)
Just Fucking Watch It what was it about Lost World that you like over the first film? not judging, just curious is all.
Just Fucking Watch It "Alan, I'm a raptor Allan"
Armageddon3035 love the trailer scene, the grass raptor scene, the annoying kid is less annoying than the annoying kid in the first and more Ian Malcolm, gotta love that guy.
Just Fucking Watch It fair enough. still prefer the first film myself, but i enjoy all 3 movies.
I agree great review, I love The Lost World and I love The Temple Of Doom, both very good underrated films.
Hey man, where do you live? i'm restoring the original RV in Huntington Beach, CA :) Would love for you to come!
Movie Cars Central did he?
This sounds like a kidnapping ploy
Abhabhgyoyinbiffff
Ah its so good to find someone to agree with. That sequence of Sarah, Ian, and Nick almost falling from the cliff always gives me such an intense feeling and keeps my heart racing.
It's nice to finally find someone else who likes The Lost World.
For me, it's my favourite of the Jurassic Park series.
Finally! someone who gives this movie the respect that it deserves!. I hated the review from Nostalgia Critic, as well as his review for JW (seriously, fuck that review).
Arturo García yea
I agree with you Chris! I thought it was really well done and I had a lot of fun with lost world
Most underrated JP film for sure! Good movie!! 🎞 🦖
It’s overrated
Like u @@jamestropicals8262
I genuinely think Jurassic Park: The Lost World is as good as Jurassic Park 1. And Jurassic Park 1 is my all time favorite movie. I think a big part of this is that TLW has some incredibly iconic scenes pulled almost straight from the book. The cliff scene with the trailers comes to mind. I feel like parts of this movie as just as iconic as the original.
9:45- Chris the PS1 game to play is actually Dino Crisis 2, not The Lost World. I have both, Dino Crisis 2 is the best dinosaur game out there.
The last 15 minutes with the t rex in San Diego is so iconic
love this movie since iam a kid
You didn't talk about John Williams' amazing soundtrack that rivals the original.
Shirt Goals!
Ryan Balthazor IKR! saw it and lost my shit!
Yes!
woo finally some else who likes this movie, i have always liked jurassic park 2 while not as good as the first it is much better than the 3rd and still a pretty good movie
michael hudson in terms of ratings
jurassic park- 9.5/10
JP 2 - 8/10
JP3 5/10
(jurassic world prediction 7/10)
I also really like the second film. I still really enjoy watching the T-Rex rampage through San Diego. one of my fond memories as a child
michael hudson I kind of agree with you on those ratings, but in my opinion JP3 6/10 (Not that it makes much of a difference haha) and then Jurassic World prediction 8.5 possibly a 9/10. I have a lot of faith in Colin, as does Spielberg.
***** yeah i have hope and 7 isent to bad i just dont think it will be the smartest movie but will be good fun (7/10 is about what i would give thor for comparison)
I love this movie too!!!!
It's so good to see more and more people come out saying this movies good, I grew up with both it and the first and absolutely love them. The writing isn't as tight for this one as the first but it's still great and I was shocked when I got older and learned how many people hate it
You're great at mimicking voices by the way. Every time, it's perfect haha. You got Goldblum's "Uh's" down pat.
Man, you know that the two first Jurasic Movies were based on books?
To this day, I still think The Lost World: Jurassic Park is an enjoyable sequel. I don't get the hate for it either. It still had some thrilling and suspenseful moments in it. I really hope the upcoming Jurassic World 1-ups it though. :)
Me too!
"The Lost World" might be Spielberg's most commercialized film. It is pretty generic to be honest, and especially feels like it was only made for money. However, it is still not a bad film and parts of it can be enjoyed (Goldblum!).
Tyler Scott
That honor goes to Indy 4.
*Might. But you're right, INDY 4 is.
Tyler Scott You can't just blame Spielberg for that one. Gotta give some credit to George Lucas' terrible ideas, and pushing Spielberg to make the movie in the first p;ace. That guy just shits up anything he touches.
gnarkillguch I don't think IJ 4 was that bad it just suffers because Indiana Jones isn't in it, a boring Harrison ford is
Tyler Scott Is?
The raptor design looked bad ass in TLW. I like how different it was from the first. TLW is underappreciated.
This is not only my favorite Jurassic Park movie it’s my top 10 movies on the 90s. It’s on my top 20 of all time!
I don't either I actually like the lost world
When I was a kid I loved the first Jurassic Park.
"What's wrong with putting man made creatures behind bars?", Are you sure you watched the first movie?
I was talking about how the dinosaurs broke out and killed people in the first movie.
Matthew Schoolcraft Because they weren't careful enough. People contain a lot of deadly animals in zoos. It's rare that any of them escape or kill people. Dinosaurs aren't any more different.
YES! Thank you!!! I really enjoy the Lost World too! Always have!
The Lost World is awesome, and so is that Tyrannosaurus scene with the two parents....
But Rexy's introduction in the first film is one of the most legendary introductions of all time
Agreed Lost World is the most underrated of the four filmeds
I didn't know people didn't like it, I always thought people liked this movie more then the first.
RoboBoomStick slightly sadistic but good for you.
Corey jay is a hipster bitch
Caleb, you know exactly what to say, to get me upset. I have feelings too. I apologized to Roboboomstick already in a message. I decided to leave my obscene comment Bc it reminds me that I too can be rude and say things that might hurt people's feelings. I love you, Caleb.
Hi robo boom stick welcome to Earth how was your 20 year trip to Pluto
tmzissupergay Pluto was nice, all I had for entertainment was a VHR that played The Lost World on a constant loop,

Jurassic Park: 10/10
The Lost World: 7/10 tense and satifying
Jurassic Park 3: 3/10
Jurassic World: 7/10 great ending
The lost world 5/10
I love the Raptor scene. When they pull the people from the grass when they are running.
Jesus Amaya I don’t see how watching all those poor men getting killed could be your favorite part. That’s so heartless.
The raptor scene with Malcom, Sarah, and Kelly was great as well (except the gymnastics). It was a very intense scene.
The raptors attacked the goddamn ship ya fools
Dale Whyte The t-rex from the first film is still alive. She' actually in Jurassic World as one of the attractions.
Eidlones
In the books they explain that the Dinosaurs have been designed to age faster and they only live to be be about 20 years old.
I can't recall where this was exactly, but a few minutes on Google found the answer for me previously, should do the same for you if you really care.
.................The T-Rex ate a dog..............
Bobby Lepire 4. This movie isn't about awe, it's about the idiotic mistakes humans make for money and power.
'Til this day The Lost World is still my favourite installment from the Jurassic Park franchise!
