I do my applesauce canning almost exactly like you, but a few yrs ago i discovered just quartering (not trimming cores, etc) and putting in my instant pot for 3 or 4 minutes on high pressure, then running them through my KA food mill. It makes really quick work of it. No waiting for boiling.
Awesome deal on apples!!!🙌🏻 Agree 💯 the key is preparing everything ahead! Clean everything sinks counters jars tools and have everything set out and ready to rock & roll! Makes for a much easier enjoyable canning day! Doing a big batch of apple pie carrots I got in my food CoOp while watching! I love watching my favorite peeps canning while I’m canning so it feels almost like I’m working with a friend to get it all done! Love having applesauce on hand for muffins-cakes-baked oats-bbq sauce and just eating for a snack or warm with butter and cinnamon at breakfast 😋
Great video LeAnne. You are amazing to be able to get all those apples done in one session. My ears perked up when you mentioned Norwex. I have been a consultant for 7 years and I have to agree the netted dish cloth is one of my favorite tools in the kitchen. It’s amazing picking up flour on the counter after a pie making session. ❤ I have missed seeing your videos. Glad you are back! 😊
I use to be a snob when I would see the price of the cloths and other norwex items and think why are they so expensive. Now, I am soo in love with them. I only wish I can find something that will clean my stove top. One of these days I will ask my neighbor for some of that paste & degreaser to see if that works!
@@MennoniteFarmhouse the paste with a spirisponge (it doesn’t scratch) is amazing. The paste will last you a very long time so it is worth it. Definitely ask for a sample. ❤️
You are amazing! My husband helped me with a case of apples, and it took us all day, and I canned until after 11 pm. We cored, peeled, sliced and cooked with sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves, ground ginger and vanilla extract, then jarred up. I didn't thicken it so Mike can just eat them as a snack, or I can thicken later for pies. They smelled wonderful though. When we saw all the boxes you had, we looked at each each other and said oh my goodness. It feels good to see all those apples on the shelf though. 😊God Bless!
I'm glad to be back. I had a good holiday! No farming issues, sometime years we have had major problems. I hope you had a good Holiday season. Have a Blessed weekend!
Did 5 bushel of peaches one summer day !!! Did them in quarts plus got to buy a new freezer upright one for the pies I made that time !!! Still have that upright freezer since 1977 !!! Am glad you had everything you needed there !!! I had a husband who peeled the peaches for me !!! So that helped me out a lot then !!! In that weekend bought more sugar & flour plus shortening for pie crusts !!! Daughter was the one who squished the flour with shortening for Momma then she was only 4yrs old and a great helper for Momma !!! She loved those peach pies in the winter time !!!
What a great job. I usually just eat the applesauce as is so we usually use pints. I also make applesauce muffins . Thanks for sharing this tutorial. Have a blessed weekend.

Great set up for this huge canning session and you rocked the cleanliness part of the sink and counters importance as well as using an approved/safe recipe. AND your kitchen is just beautiful!
I processed several hundreds pounds of apples this past fall. It was a great year for apples. Apple sauce, apple pie filling, dehydrated apples, and apple jelly. I use an immersion blender for my apple sauce because we don't mind the peels being mixed in. I'm wondering if you've ever made it that way? It saves the trouble of having to transfer the apples from the pot to the sieve and back.
You definitely have it going on girl! Awesome job. Thank you for sharing this process start to finish. You rocked it out, as usual. I love my Norwex clothes too. They are the best.
Just make sure you only cook it for 1 minute or less on high. I find doing that cooks the apple a little too long but it makes cooking them down so much easier.
Years ago i purchased a Squeezo food puree machine. Great investment! We would buy 15 bushels every year. Assembly line it with helpers and could do 4 or 5 bu in a day. Apple sauce, butter, pie slices and spicy mincemeat for our large family.
Hi LeAnn! What a deal on the apples. Golden delicious apples do make good sugar free applesauce. I used to use my roaster oven to cook down the apples since that was one of my kids favorites was applesauce and I could never make enough, lol. I bet your chickens loved the scarps. Didn’t hubby make a jig that stirs the pot, that would have helped you. Maybe I’m getting it wrong LeAnn, it might be my feeble mind. I don’t like washing the rings either, but it has to be done. Good job processing all those apples. Have a blessed weekend!

Great video, LeAnne! You got a great deal, and the applesauce looks tasty! I always read my recipe three times, because it seems like if I don’t, I get started and don’t have one crucial ingredient, haha!

Merry Christmas! I believe you're the only one who wished me a merry Christmas so I am grateful for you. I hope you had a good holiday. Yes, I wish everybody had the chance to go see the farmer for fresh food.
Love this tutorial. Start to finish you are so thorough! And I thought I was lucky to get ONE bushel of apples!! The way you set up your different areas makes the process so much more efficient. I just pressure canned 14 quarts of chicken bone broth. Jars are waiting to be washed to go in the big pantry (used to be a spare bedroom) as we don’t have basements down here in this part of Texas. Question: when you use your pressure canner as a pressure cooker, do you lock the lid down or just set it on top? I’m not sure how to use mine as a cooker rather than a canner. Thanks for all the things you’ve taught me this year. Look forward to more from you in 2024.
Thanks Joy! I don't use my pressure canner for cooking because my mother n law would have my head. She doesn't want me cooking with aluminum. She claims that leads to health problems. Are you doing any quilting or crafty things?
Oh, LeAnne, I forgot about the aluminum issue! I don’t even use aluminum foil so what was I thinking? As to what crafts I’m into now, I made a bunch of those adorable microwave cozies like you had made for one of your giveaways. Big hit for the holidays. Had to make a couple new dresses as 3 of mine were getting so frayed around the collar it looked like fringe. And I got out my old Addi King knitting machines to make hats for the unhoused (I was corrected when I said homeless. Not PC. 🙄 ). I processed this much alone too this Fall! I made a lot of unsweetened applesauce, a little apple jam, dehydrated and froze a lot too. I was happy to see the bottom of the last box. I hope you have been well, I see you have been busy!
Yes! Virginia I have been keeping busy canning chicken, pineapple, cranberries and now apples!! Knock on wood but I cabt remember the last time I had a cold.
I got a half bushel of Granny Smith apples in the early fall from a Ward member. It was my first time to home can applesauce, spiced pear apple jam and pie filling. I have made homemade applesauce for my babies when they could start having soft foods but never canned then. I am still fairly new to home canning. And you have a lovely kitchen.

None of us like applesauce by itself but that is all our one apple tree makes...it doesn't keep well or make a pie. So it gets juiced (very lackluster juice but a good ingredient), sauced or turned into apple butter. This year the grandkids decided that they like applesauce fruit rollups made by a quart jar of sauce and one box of jello then dehydrated. So easy and finally, a way to get all these gallons of applesauce eaten! Your applesauce came out so lovely looking. Our apples are green skinned so the sauce is always a bit sickly looking. hahaha
I grew up in Appalachia Kentucky. Canning and preserving foods was a natural part of our lives. We did this every year all of my life. I am very skilled on how to can or preserve pretty much any type of fruit vegetable or meat that you can think of. Now if you want something really yummy go to the dollar store and buy some red hots candies. Put one package of those in with 2 quarts of your applesauce and cook on the lowest heat setting until the red hots melt. After they are all melted you will have 2 quarts of the most yummy applesauce ever.
Thats quite a prosess set up you have there! And all the while you focused on cleanliness and using a safe recipe. Thats why are you're awesome!

Great tutorial! Would love to see some of your applesauce recipes. What was the name of that dish cloth??
It's a Norwex Net dish cloth. You can find them here www.norwex.com/?s=tiffanyharvey&store=us
@@MennoniteFarmhouse Thank you so much!
I love to use applesauce instead of oil when baking
None of us like applesauce by itself but that is all our one apple tree makes...it doesn't keep well or make a pie. So it gets juiced (very lackluster juice but a good ingredient), sauced or turned into apple butter. This year the grandkids decided that they like applesauce fruit rollups made by a quart jar of sauce and one box of jello then dehydrated. So easy and finally, a way to get all these gallons of applesauce eaten! Your applesauce came out so lovely looking. Our apples are green skinned so the sauce is always a bit sickly looking. hahaha
PS...you need an electric roaster oven. Very helpful in large jobs like this.
I have one but I hate cleaning it!
One of my church sisters Only makes applesauce with red hots. They will not eat it any other way.
