Dude I worked in a preschool, and the way those teachers beat down a child’s voice is unreal. Any time those kids are excited about something and they feel the need to shout. “Leo, come here, I need to talk to you. That’s not okay, Mister” *Leo’s face is now heartbroken, and he keeps looking around the room because he doesn’t know where to look*

It’s crazy how almost no one is authentic, particularly in public. Just working on my social skills and talking to people I find attractive - after months of this I think I’ve seen maybe one or two other people being fully authentic. I myself still struggle with it after years. It’s really crazy how strong social conditioning is.

I think it depends where you live/the culture you're from. I've lived in different countries and have had widely different experiences when it comes to the authenticity of the people in a particular place. Here, in Spain, the vast majority of people are authentic and very natural when it comes to expressing their thoughts and emotions without feeling embarassed or shy. Everyone is outside most of the time and interacting with others is a necessity (in the good sense), not a chore. In general, grown ups don't tells kids to be quiet here like they do in other cultures/countries, especially when they're expressing themselves. They encourage their kids to 'speak up' and the kids learn to be naturally confident. Awkward silences are very uncommon here too. When the Spanish run into people they know, they're love interacting with them.
Italians are very similar to the Spanish is this respect.
Northern Europeans tend to be more cautious, calculating and hesitant when expressing themselves. I would say the Spanish and Italians are more intuitive communicators, whereas Northern Europeans are more intellectual (intellect over intuition) communicators.

It's almost like you need to behave yourself for society to work. We can't all go around being authentic or everyone would hate eachother. That's why people with aspergers are outcasts instead of super cool authentic people 😎

The past year i started into self improvement and ever since then i've been planning and plannihg and consuming more content on youtube and instagram and although i did progress in most areas of my life i still find myself procrastinating and returning to a self improvement video to "motivate" myself back into action for a week until returning to my default. Through julien videos i realized this is a form of self sabotage that my brain uses in order to put me into a vicious cycle of motivating myself but never really achieving something meaningful.

    The scale of inner Resistance:
    1. Apathy - lack of feeling, emotion or awareness
    2. Grief - Intense distress and suffering
    3. Fear - Being afraid, flight
    4. Anger - Intense feeling of upset and annoyance
    5. Courage - Power and fearlessness
    6. Desire - Strongly wanting
    7. Purpose - Reasons and a goal
    8. Love - Deep affection, enjoyment, fulfillment
    Question:
Does removing inner resistance result in telling people everything that is on your mind?
Doing so seems nice, but possibly harmful.

Awesome videos as always Julien! I always watch your videos without any distraction to FEEL the breakdown.
    Biggest Takeaways:
    1. If you are in a lower state like grief or fear, tapping into anger is totally fine and it's not self-hate. (Although it should be temporary not long term). "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"
    2. Always take notes while introspecting. Whatever you FEEL, doesn't even have to make sense. Keeping coming back to these notes until they no longer trigger you.
    3. What I am dying to hear from someone else?
    4. Externel tools like reminders (aka training wheels for change) don't get to the cause but that doesn't mean you can't use them to trigger change.
    5. YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN GOOD ENOUGH THE WHOLE TIME. THE ANSWER IS WITHIN AND STOP SEEKING IT OUTSIDE.
    6. Even though this is hard, celebrate every little win in this path. :)
    Quick Question on first takeway:
    - How would I know if I no longer need to stay in anger state which I got in just temporarily to let go of grief/fear?

I discovered one hack for accessing this "moment". So, I when I was younger I could go to a party and dance. But for years, I hadn't been able to do that. I'd see some friends dancing and tell myself, that's not me, when in reality I wanted to.
This month, I was at a party, and for some reason I just felt like why the fuck would I waste this night (it was the freshers party at my uni)? And I danced really fucking hard, letting the worrying thoughts about how I look drown out with the loud ass music and lights. I could feel the difference, after the party, I felt less weight than usual. And friends did tell me that I was more unhinged (I'm using this word lightly, but this is the correct word here I feel) that night.
So, if you've had a similar thing with dancing or performing, just take a few people with you whom you trust into a situation where you normally wouldn't open up, and make a conscious decision it's either letting the fear rule you forever, or you let go at this point.

God I just love the way julian dresses. It's so free and fun and just idk...theres no like...direction behind it. Or like...preconceived notions? If that makes sense? Haha. I literally can soak up over an hours time trying to find an outfit that im okay with...and I usually goes thru multiple outfits only for me to land back on the same outfit I wore yesterday lol. Idk I guess I feel like I put SO many restrictions and conditions on what I allow myself to wear. What I deem appropriate. I miss what I thought of clothes when i was younger...before middle school. Where colors were fun and I loved cool unusual fabrics. I remember I had these bright blue sleek Shiney bell bottom pants that I loved to wear in like 4th grade. And I had a camo tank top that had a bunch of little Shiney almost disco ball like little reflector dots all over it, and it would shine and reflect when light was on it. Like I did not care what kids thought I just wore what I thought was cool for the sake of just that. Lol just stuff like that. I still wore high heels even tho I was one of the tallest girls in class. I can count on one hand how many times I've wore high heels in the past like 15 years. 2 times. Lol only 2 times. I love high heels. Especially boot high heels haha. But I dont ever wear them...I let the intrusive thoughts win every single time when it comes to dressing myself. I have so many pretty clothes...even tho I don't fit into a lot of them anymore coz of all the damn weight I've gained the past 2 years. But even when I did fit in them I still only ever wore the same handful of clothes all the time. Julian is just so himself...Im trying to be like that but even that feels wrong because you shouldn't have to trryyry to be authetic ya know. At least that's how I feel...idk. I really just dont know jack sh¡t. Sorry for rambling haha.

Hey Jacob, if you’re reading this, I just want you to know you nailed it. I thought as if I was looking at myself. I too am at a terrible state of social anxiety to the point I just said enough is enough. Looking you struggling with your yourself made me cry because you are a lot braver than me. Accepting all of that, wasn’t easy 100%. I hope all of us, struggling through anxieties of different sorts, will find a way out. I am getting better(just pouring my heart out) after reading How be yourself by Ellen, atomic habits by james clear, and doing stuff slowly
    Love
    Muhammad ❤

Hi Julian, I love your work, Im 51 years old.My confidence has been buried since before I can remember. Mum and Dad told me I was a "good" baby because I was so quiet and never made much noise. I have a huge eye contact problem and fear of noise even little kids yelling startle me. There was a poster on the wall in my bedroom as a young boy of around 5 years old, was a valvoline ad with a man who was looking at the camera when picture was taken and the eyes followed you no matter where you were in room. I ended up scratching the eyes out with a pen and scribbling all over them, so the eyes couldn't see me but they still seemed to follow. So I had eye contact issues before that time. Sitting around a table with workmates I've known for many years I'm a nervous wreck with all the people facing me and eye contact especially when no one is speaking. Sorry for the rant but maybe some people's confidence has been buried since birth and they never had it in the first place. I know I was dropped on my head as a baby and I was a difficult birth using clamps on my head as they used to do, but I don't have brain damage.
      Thanks
      Greg

To me the negative self talk isn't so much you're 'not good enough' but rather 'not all you could be' while willfully choosing to live below your potential. I think the sort of un-accomplishment or complacency that's self-initiated or ignored is what can deplete the self-worth of especially conscientious people. Trying to set goals or even casually pursue the whole generic 'personal improvement' arc may perhaps instill a definite sense of direction or motivation, which in turn contributes to outward charisma.

Having a comfortable job at an european central bank, so everything is covered in my professional life, but I keep thinking that all that I have accomplished in all aspects of my life was in times of despair. I’m so comfortable in this place in my life, that for the love of God I can’t have the courage to engage and try to meet a person that I could know on a personal level. Should I finally acknowledge that I am miserable without a personal connection and try to fuel myself with this realization of unhappiness?

Crimson Contagion was a joint exercise conducted from January to August 2019, in which numerous national, state and local, private and public organizations in the US participated, in order to test the capacity of the federal government and twelve states to respond to a severe pandemic of influenza originating in China.
The simulation, which was conducted months prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, involves a scenario in which tourists returning from China spread a respiratory virus in the United States, beginning in Chicago. In less than two months the virus had infected 110 million Americans, killing more than half a million.
