    This couldn't have come at a more perfect time. Just bought a 2007 997.1 Turbo and this is the first upgrade I plan to do. Great video and good to know I don't need to pay the dealer to handle the install. Thanks!

    Thanks, very helpful. I installed mine this weekend. Piece of cake. The hardest part was getting the original unit out. I ultimately pried the black plastic round things out, and then completely removed (ripped out) the metal tabs with needle nose pliers. It feels like a new car with this in place, and the sound is so much better than it was. Somehow this new unit optimizes the Bose speakers/ system.

    Thanks for this video. I was able to install mine in about two hours. I watch another install video, and the guy said that his Porsche dealer wanted to charge $1500 for install alone, and I don’t see how that is justified. One tip for those who bought the Nav Software. The SD Card has a mini one within the main card. One needs to remove the mini and install it into the SD slot upside down. Cheers!

    This was a big launch a few months ago... Shocking that no CarPlay via Bluetooth is possible. And at least not replacing with USB C!?
    Clearly an incomplete product in my opinion. And at that price point!! :(

    • @EPaul
      @EPaul  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would disagree. Plugging in is not that big of a deal and having plug and play install, along with integrated with all the native controls justifies the price point for me. I have no regrets on the price I paid for the unit and very happy with the results and the unit. Paying $1000 for an aftermarket that isn't as plug and play for me justifies the extra $500, even if the after market supports wireless CarPlay. It's not like they can develop the feature set the same year they release the unit, R&D takes time and wireless CarPlay wasn't as stable or offered when the started developing the unit.

    • @leguanche
      @leguanche ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EPaul having a cable laying around is no longer a desired feature for a recently launched Infotainment unit. If anything, it should have been designed to appear on the side, by glovebox, etc (plus it should have been a USB C!). USB connection doesn’t look neat in my opinion.
      Also, Carplay was launched 2014, I would imagine it was sufficiently stable when this PCCM was launched in 2022!?

    • @EPaul
      @EPaul  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leguanche so I'm probably not as OCD as you are with the neatness and I do have wireless CarPlay in my 2 other cars, but cable is so minor for me based on functionality and having the classic look. On the CarPlay wireless, it actually wasn't implemented until 2017 by BMW, I owned a Tundra and they just implemented CarPlay in their 2020 models "wired", so back to my statement. Many auto manf. are slow to adopt and if you look at most aftermarket car stereos, for example Pioneer, they didn't support wireless until 2018, which was also an optional item. In regards to USB-C, yes it's the standard, but there's no features on the PCCM+ that needs support for USB-C spec and when developing hardware, I'm sure the PCB was already designed or pre-manf with standard USB-A and to create a USB-C on the board would probably affect the overall cost. All of my other CarPlay units (3 in total) still use USB-A. But bottom line for me, wired doesn't bother me, especially since there are other options not supported by CarPlay, so from time-to-time I need to access my phone, which is why I have a phone mount and having a cable is no biggie... It's the look and native integration with the 997.1 that make me feel this is truly the perfect unit to update my old PCM. Also a little background on myself, I'm a hardware/software developer in the Silicon Valley and have a long background on developing USB products starting in 1998 with Sony Electronics, so very aware of cost and decision on on what interfaces to use when developing products.

    • @squicker
      @squicker ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is what's putting me off, this unit seems out of date already. So typical of Porsche to release in car tech that's already a decade out of date and charge over the odds for it. I like the idea of it being an OEM unit maintaining the look of my car, but on principle I don't believe in rewarding lazy manufacturers who release average products.
      This is a real missed opportunity by the look of the videos I've seen.
