I take my hat off to the owner of this car. They must really love this particular model, you spend so much money refreshing, upgrading and retrofitting many, many parts. Having owned a 997 S for 10 years, I can say that they are an absolutely great all round car, which you can drive for many years, without getting bored.

To me, unless you want a GT3, the 997.1 C2S is probably peak 911, and so I can well understand someone wanting to restore one. Sure it will have easily cost as much as buying a 991, but hand on heart you will end up with a car that is the best of all worlds. They're got all the power you need for road use, they're small and nimble and of course the hydraulic steering is sublime. I haven't done anything to the leather on my 2005 C2S but I had the interior plastics refurbished and that made a huge difference to the feel of it. Great cars, and FGP look like they really know how to look after them👍

Just been watching a couple of your videos… comparing Carrera v Cayman S …. Really impressed with the care you took with the detailed inspection of the cars. Wifey had a 997 Carrera S a while ago with chrono but we sold it for Range Rover Evoque as she was working a way away down bumpy, crap roads… but she is nagging me now to get another one. I will certainly beat you in mind as and when.
Only thing I didn’t like on our car was the stupid buttons on the steering wheel for gears.
Anyways. REALLY interesting videos. Makes a pleasant change from all the gobshite You Tubers showing off their completely la la land GT3 RS’s etc that us mere mortals aren’t “allowed” to buy because we aren’t on some stupid Dealers list.
That is why ( although I am now in a position to ) I will never ever buy a new Porsche again. They can get stuffed.
I have Alfa Gulia Quadrifoglio, aforesaid Evoque as my daily driver…. and you think Porsches are unreliable and cost a fortune to run…. try one of those - they are total rubbish and most unreliable car I’ve ever owned…. Also got a little 3 wheeler Morgan which I find any excuse to use. It is utterly mad, bonkers, brilliant… and various Bikes.
Apologies. I’m rambling while watching your vids.
But I’ll subscribe. Keep them coming.

Apparently there’s a nylon component in the stick shift mechanism that wears out. Some people choose to replace & eliminate the problem permanently by requesting a GT3 all metal shifter. The throw of the lever is also reduced which I’m told makes gear changing more enjoyable.

    To your videos.
When you show technology videos I always miss the details and close-ups.
This video is a typical example: How to make a Porsche 997 AS-NEW
It would be interesting to see how the gearshift works and the shift travel with
the short shifter Switching looks like.
The condition of the engine and the catalytic converters is also
very interesting. An endoscope view would be very informative for every viewer.
I would also like to have some information about the engine noise after the new
exhaust mufflers were installed. It sounds like a piston tipper to me.
Where does that noise come from?
The remaining thickness of the old brake discs would also have been very interesting.
What every Porsche lover is interested in is the mileage of the vehicles.
You talk about things but often don't show them.
    Details, details, details.
Forgive me for the many criticisms.
I think a few improvements to your videos would make a lot more people watch your videos.
Perhaps you need a cameraman for the detailed scenes and driving scenes.
Many people who see your videos want to do what you do on their own Porsche,
but don't have the experience like you.
Pardon my bad English, I'm from Austria.

This mustbe one of the best 997 on the road now .
Excellent video , only bit that confused me was the talk of ‘ importing’ the car into NI ?
If the car is a U.K. car your not importing it , NI is part of the
the U.K. , so there is no issue moving it across the Irish Sea .

    • @GT380man
      @GT380man 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

While it is of course British, Brexit forced some arrangement, notionally to “protect the integrity of the single market”.
In many ways, NI is treated as if it’s not part of U.K.
Do you not remember that controversy about where the EU / U.K. customs border was going to be?
      There were only two options.
      1. Between NI & Eire.
      2. “In the Irish Sea”
The first option would destroy life and business near the border, representing a truly massive change compared with the last 100+ years.
So option 2 was the default & only option.
The effect is that U.K. chose to impose a real customs border WITHIN ITS OWN TERRITORY. This has never happened anywhere else before.
I find the whole thing utterly fraudulent.

That Porsche switchable exhaust, forced by EU regulations to be quiet until 40mph, is that enforced by coding internal to the cars ECU or is it getting orders externally in real time?

My 996 GT3 race car came with a numeric shifter, I really don’t like it compared to my 997 with a short shift kit.

Makes me wonder why the owner didn’t get Hartech to do all this work while the engine was out having a rebuild?

They specialise in engine works and we specialise in what’s presented in this video.

Sorry, we won’t be disclosing the total cost. It was however into five figures.

Great video as usual, I suppose its his money- but TBH he should have bought a 991 or maybe a 997.2 Turbo with the cash he’s throwing at that. The car looks like a 4x4 on the new suspension 😂

Thanks for your comment. He wanted comfortable, practical suspension. The ride height may settle ever so slightly, but it’s the same as it came out of the factory.

About the tires you put on...if the customer wanted a like new feel why didn't you put on "N" rated tires? I don't think the 4S's are N-rated? Wouldn't you put the "older" Michelin PS2's which are Porsche OEM N2 rated?

LED lights look wrong on 20 year old P cars. Seen a number of U.S. owners with sequential indicators.
    I mean, gah.

£10K to £12K for engine upgrade plus £15K to £17K with you must be more than the car is worth.
