Its a shame they didn't combine Returns and Returns remix into one release. That'd have been alot better, especially since Returns wasn't on the Switch!
Thanks for really explaining what’s lacking in this version. Considering it looks cute and was faithful to the original which people seem to really like, I didn’t understand the negativity. Now I understand
I love the original arcade Wonder Boy. That’s what I want. Not the same game with Flash quality graphics. I wish there was a way of switching between the two graphic styles and music like the Dragon’s Trap did.
Old Aussie Ads So in other words, graphics are more important to you than gameplay? I bet you’re one of those snobby PC gamers who is constantly bragging about how you spent $4,000 on a computer just so you could play Minecraft and Fortnite with 120 FPS, which by the way is pointless because most people don’t even notice a difference between 30 and 60 FPS. How about you just fuck off? You don’t like video games. You just like the idea of them. You probably suck at games and can’t beat any so to make up for it, you constantly talk about graphics. Fuck you.
I agree , I like the original, I'm playing the remix on my switch..it's not that bad but I wish we could have a choice to switch into the new and old version if we want to!
Can anyone help me get past stage 2 (octapus) the cloud section...i dont get how to jump up up up with the moving clouds. Can it be that it just doesnt work with nintendo switch?????
The same company made Adventure Island for the NES because Sega owned the rights to the name “Wonder Boy” for the original game at the time. So Adventure Island is indeed a spiritual successor to the Master System game, made by the same company.
i had this for the master system back in the 80s one of my fav games ever...and i love the music its ingrained in my brain forever...why cant we just get the exact original back to play on the switch?
Removed original Returns' content & keep in line with 1986 original with mediocre presentation? Charge shot & playable Tina aside, I don't see the point this is a thing. Porting original arcade game would be a much better choice then. Thank for the review, keep optimistic for this one.
Thx for great review. Guess this is something nobody really needs in the switch collection. Only wonder: is the sound in the background really ALL (???) of background music in this game??
Still a good game glad they done a remix on switch but still would love if they have the old one too from sega as would like to own both of them great work I love the new version and of course the old 1986
It blows my mind that they removed Wonder Boy Returns when they released Remix on steam, they really are 2 different games and there are people who would pay for Returns just for some of that new content cut out of Remix.
I remember when Wonder Boy Returns was first announced. People HATED it, mainly because of its art style. I personally didn't see a problem with it, and I still don't to this day.
its look exacly the same like adventure island for nes

@@msu7777 Lol, there a good reason for that - Adventure Island is a port of Wonderboy to the NES, but when they went to port it they found Westone owned the rights to the Wonderboy character, so they changed the character to the shitty Mr Higgens and renamed the game to Adventure Island. So, Adventure Island is a mediocre port of Wonderboy.
Big fan of the arcade version back in the '80s. The scrolling on this version is horrible. I had to stop playing after about 20 seconds. Why would a simple 2d game on a modern console have jerky movement? Also, the presentation of this new version is awful. Would get a refund from the Nintendo store if it allowed.
The PS4-version is clearly superior. And the reason for your headaches is the "switch-exclusive" low frame rate(which might be around 20 fps). What a lazy port of a pretty decent game. I'm disappointed. WTF were they thinking?
You're better off buying Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. I think it looks pretty cool and you can even switch to how it originally looked with a press of a button while playing.
Picked it up on sale for 7.50$ on PS4 and still feel ripped off. Don't get it twisted, this is hardly worthy of sharing the Wonder Boy name like the Dragon's Trap remake and Cursed Kingdom. Runs incredibly jank and jerky, which, for a game as simple as this, is honestly embarrassing. The missing content and misleading "Remix" moniker (how is it a Remix if it's the same stages from the 80s?) for an already mediocre game is just the icing on the doodoo sundae. Avoid unless you're an absolute Wonder Boy completist
Very very bad game. Except the performance issue, every seems to be off. You push start and it freezes like you don’t control the game. Everything is not working as it should . Gameplay controls are awful, frame rate is stupid, something like a 30fps with stuttering. I regretted having this one
ALL I WANT IS THE DAMN ORIGINAL ARCADE PORTED TO CONSOLES. i dont want a remix i dont want a remaster i dont want the shitty RPG's i just want the original fucking arcade machine deluxe version. the original arcade is challenging and one of the great arcade machines of the 80's. you wont be completing that version any time soon !
LMFAO the Switch can't handle too much content? The game doesn't push either system in any way. For whatever reason they decided to go with the more traditional arcade game, but to say that the Switch couldn't handle the extra content is absolutely ludicrous.
Obviously you don't own a Switch. If it can run BotW and Mario Odyssey then the PS4 version of Wonder boy would be no problem 😂 it's not like either push the hardware to there limits.

Hey Nikita, you need to hold down the fire / dash button as you jump. Check my channel out for Wonderbiy vids. Like how to get the Tomtom doll.
@@MrLondonGo oh wow let me try it!!!!

Isn't this just Adventure Island on the NES? I noticed how the stage layouts are exactly the same.

Because game devs in 2020 are stupid. They never listen to their player base and just want to do new flashy unneeded things
@@richardsalzmann7946 exactly!! Original graphics are better.
i kept watching for the SEGA letters to appear :)
@@richardsalzmann7946 so entitled
Well it's coming to switch now! though in a somewhat greedy way in order for you to get a limited physical, but hey it came!
This explains why it's £8.99 as opposed to £15.99 on the psn. Half of options are absent. If I knew this I probably wouldn't have preordered this
That music and graphic style is really charming, even if the game is a bit of a disappointment overall
This is a pretty good review. Just subbed :)

Why are these 2 games so different the Return and return remix?
Is there a save feature?

Wish they would remake Wonder boy in monster World
The worst of the Wonder Boy games...
And Shinobi World, with the exact music
Wonder boy did they change the name back on the same mechanics on the Nintendo system from Hudson..?

So in all honesty, is the PS4 version better because I own that version and the video from the Switch seemed lackluster
