Fun fact: The pilot in the scene who turns toward Aron as he gets in, was played by the actual park ranger who saved the real Aron Ralston. Pretty cool.

The way the music climaxes right as Aron finally realizes that he can't do everything on his own and screams, "I NEED HELP!" is perfect. The family doesn't start running toward him until he admits that he needs help. This scene is absolute genius and puts an exclamation point on his character arc. It should get talked about more than it does.

This whole thing was about him realizing that he needs others to live a proper life, and when he first said "I need help" it had a hint of shame like he was struggling to admit it. But when he yelled it, really showed that his character progressed to the point of admitting he does. Thank you.

And screaming ‘please help me’ when he sees the trekkers- I feel this has a much deeper meaning than simply calling for help in that desperate moment.. it’s like he doesn’t want to be alone anymore in his life, and by pushing through absolute isolation, desperation and vulnerability, the reward at the end is discovering the best of humanity. Everyone totally focused on helping him to stay alive. Love it!

Sigur ros is a criminally underrated band. I hate how underappreciated post rock is in general. It is literally music for the soul.
You can feel the instruments weep either out of joy or sadness.
Another great song that comes to mind is Mono's nostalgia. Pure art.

That little smile he gives off seeing the rock paintings is so heart-warming. He was just so incredibly happy deep down that he had gotten out of what was surely meant to be his final resting place. Just to see anything but those canyon walls again would have been such an incredible feeling for Aron. Such an incredible story.

The combination of the music hitting at 4:10 and seeing the second couple running over is the part that always gets the tears going for me. Just thee fact that they’re already running towards him makes me imagine that, a minute earlier, the mom and son ran into them and told them “a guy needs help,” and they sprung into action. The whole sequence starting from “I need help” through the helicopter arriving is like some sort of relay for life with everybody taking turns and doing their part to save a dying man. Beautiful.

I was so happy for him that he made it. I cried to myself in the theater when this came out . I can relate to this as a runner, meaning I had went out for a long run in the mountains and was listening to my iPod and just realized how far out I was without water and the temperature rose higher . I was dehydrated and was was thinking what to do , I would never make it back, too far out , so I prayed to God for help . I walked as far as I could go and looked around and saw a water trough for cows and a pipe with running water coming out . I stumbled to it and let me tell you water never tasted so good and refreshing . The first thing I did was thank God and made it back .

It's such an incredible scene to be able to turn a moment of horror and trauma like this into something heroic and triumphant. The movie shows that he thought he could do everything all on his own because he was a "big hard hero", so when he encounters the family and learns to ask for help it is heartwarming rather than scary.

I remembered in an interviewed with the real Aron Ralston years ago. He said when he reach the muddy puddle after he got free to drink the water he saw a dead Raven in the puddle. Possibly the same Raven that have been flying around the canyon tormenting him. Ravens are a symbol of death. He believed it was a sign of him cheating death & it was not him that died but the bird instead. It was pretty cool the movie should have added that into the scene.

When I feel emotionally exhausted, I stop for a moment, play this song, close my eyes and think. I imagine what things I want to accomplish in my life, as clear and as vivid as possible, no matter how unlikely. Start slow, imagine a week, two weeks, a month, conversations you'd want, goals you're chasing, all key moments. Then as the song ramps up, take your imagination up a notch. Imagine your future wife. Your future home. Success at work. Adventures in other countries. Anything.
I promise, it feels so breathtaking, and almost immediately after I do it, I feel re-energized and set to accomplish what I needed to do for the day - because I saw the goals that I wanted to achieve.
