Such wisdom. Thank you, Jennifer! I will have been an empty nester for one year come March. I feel like I am still recovering from my hectic homeschool lifestyle of my 30's and 40's! Putting myself last really took a toll on my health. I am so happy to see younger women recognize and be able to articulate the need for self care and boundaries! Thanks, again!
Love the idea! Could you please give us a CONCRETE example of your time blocked day, week, month? You amaze how you seem to effortlessly manage all you do! Thank you for sharing your beautiful life! 💕
Great ideas, Jennifer. As a middle school teacher, I operated in time blocks for thirty years. Now that I'm retired, I still build a daily schedule for myself. Sometimes I can still hear the bell ringing to tell me it's time to end one "class" and transition to the next one.
My kids, by the time they were10, did their own laundry, cleaned the bathrooms, and helped with kitchen clean up. They were terrible at first, and I had to monitor everything they did at first; however, they quickly learned to do those things quickly and easily and I had less to do. I hope your kids are doing a lot around the house.
Dear Jennifer, Josephine Tey is another mystery writer that I love! She was a contemporary of Christie, and her novels are so well-written. Highly recommend, and a perfect holiday read! 💛
I love these videos. I have ADD and I am 60 years old. I am on the keto diet(eating apx 50 grams carbs for the day) because c.vid gave me some health issues. Ketovore controls it. My husband eats what I make…lol. He’s okay with it as he eats what ever he wants throughout the day. There a lot of heavy lifting going on as I travel to and from our local farm to the basement. 😂 Anyway, you mentioned something about how we as woman think or feel we can do it all. I’m up around 4am and work straight through until 2-3 hours after dinner. I’m starting to have trouble keeping up. I love painting, playing the piano, writing poetry, and reading. When I was younger, I was able to do these beautiful hobbies, feeding my soul and still keep the house at the ready in perfect order and functioning. My wish is for all of you to enjoy the time that you have, even if it’s one moment to be aware that you are breathing. And all of this I say because I need to do this.
Dear Jennifer, I want to THANK YOU for such a beautiful reminder of time blocking! I used to do yoga and meditation everyday and I can't even remember when was the last time I practiced yoga. I am so busy prioritizing others and ending my day with no time for myself. I'm starting a schedule and adding my favorite things to it. So grateful for you!❤❤❤
Yes! I've noticed that when I don't set boundaries and prioritize the entire household feels less peace. Since I am a homeschool momma, I have noticed that when I show my children that I respect myself enough to focus on the task at hand, but quit to transition to rest or another task, they see that they have permission to do the same. It brings a sense of calm overall.
This is really helpful , because I have been on my own journey of embracing time blocking (I’m a big Cal Newport fan!) and I really struggle with transitions as well. It is hardest when I am doing something that requires a lot of concentration, like writing, and I hate to stop. I’ve gotten so mad at the way I let everything else go that I say to myself maybe I shouldn’t do those things I enjoy because they derail my home life, but you are encouraging me to try again to just become more disciplined about it so I can have each thing in its place.
Jennifer, what a blessing you are to me. To us! Grateful for these reminders of keeping healthy boundaries in place and the ideas to apply. My dragon is the places in my home I am still overcoming clutter. I have such victory in the main areas and a system that works. But I am challenged by the areas where I still need to declutter highly emotional items from my past work of 40 years overseas. Identity is still involved. Plus additional work to face from my folks home since their passing. I am grateful for Dana K. White’s method that helps remove the emotion. Jennifer, your wisdom about dealing with this dragon will hopefully give me added strength. Putting a tiny block daily on my calendar for these tasks. Surely I can do this!🌺 Thank you, you are graceful and grace-filled!
Thank you for this video. Something akin to time blocking (I didn’t know what to call it) is something I’ve been thinking I need to do for a while now. I keep missing out on doing things I want to do because my time is so random. I definitely needed to see this video today! Thank you! 💐
It’s easy for me to time block at work, 8-5 because my work, breaks and lunch are scheduled. Time blocking after work and the weekends was and is still a challenge. Journaling definitely helped make my plans and schedule a little more clear to set aside time for hobbies, home keeping and time with family & friends. As well as saying no to things that hinder my progress. It’s still a work in progress but I’m trying to get there. 😊
I like the perspective that time blocking helps you gain clarity on what actually matters most to you, and as such, you learn to prioritize and delegate from there.
I also wanted to add: I do this even on a meta-level with standing dates on the calendar to block off time for investing in relationships that are important to me. My bestie and I have a standing Wednesday evening date once a month, a brunch once a month, a happy hour every two weeks with other friends...... I always joke about how this would make me seem rigid and cold if I were a character in a book, but in real life it ensures I have time carved out for things that are important. Having to do work to opt out is a way to making sure it's a high priority and not just a wish that I never execute on
I appreciate your sharing that although you struggled with transitioning from one task to another, you eventually came to enjoy it. Knowing that the struggle may be temporary helps with pushing through toward the end reward. 😊
I'm sure I have ADD and time blocking has saved my sanity. I watched Jordan Page's video a few years ago and it really is life changing. I love your suggestions of rest.
I love time blocking and the idea of your dragons Jen... I teach women how to RECEIVE and one of the keys is to practice being receptive like you mentioned with gardening, reading or playing the piano etc which naturally opens us to receiving. this video is so important for women who want to avoid burn out
I’ve been doing time blocking for a long time. As I got better I found out that I’ve more time to be mindful and enjoy the little things like afternoon tea. Thanks Jennifer for the tips…
So good Jennifer. I too struggle with stopping the “flow” when I’m doing something - at midnight, totally not practical - I was printing homeschool resources and enjoying doing planning sheets etc and today I have been tired the whole day and utterly regretting not being disciplined with stopping when I told myself I would. Transitions is a good point and I would love to learn more about how to do those!!
I use a loose time block schedule by writing in my planner major items I want to complete during certain times. Phone calls, and unexpected interruptions sometimes throw me off schedule. I am going to work on time blocking because I feel it is a valuable tool. Thank you for this video. I am also learning Italian using babel.
Lovely video Jennifer, thank you for sharing! I chuckled when you mentioned laundry. Mom over here ❤ The mountain of laundry after a weekend is my Dragon 😂😊 thanks for making everything more fun!
I just took an online course (HB90) with Sarra Cannon at Heart Breathings and it's all about time blocking and planning for a 90 day period (planning for each quarter of the year). It was extremely helpful to me as I have some big goals I am wanting to accomplish so it is keeping me on track.
@@TheDailyConnoisseur It was a great course! I believe she is planning on rerecording all of the videos this year to update some items but I really enjoyed it. She does a lot of youtube videos regarding planning that you may enjoy.
Hello Jennifer. I just started this at the beginning of the year, and I’m already off track. My husband and I have been empty nesters for years, and I go back and forth between CA and AZ. I’m giving myself some grace, and testing what will work best for me. I’m still searching for a new project. I teach etiquette if anyone has any ideas!❤
Dear Jennifer, wonderful video. Delegating duties is such an important key. I know I always feel guilty about doing that but, its essential when trying to maintain a balanced/healthy life. You look lovely in pink Love, Teri.
Hello Jennifer. I am intrigued with the idea of time blocking. I want to learn more about it and definitely try it. It sounds like it would work in my life.
I love the idea, thank you for sharing! Can you also share a sample day with blocks? I find it very hard to fit much in with kids and when kids are not following my schedule, as a result I start getting irritated. Any tips?
Love you so much Jennifer and love your channel, TIP….I’d love to see your camera or lighting setup upgrade to match the WONDERFUL content you bring, if you have the budget, let this be an encouragement that you are worth the investment.
Dear Jennifer, just curious - what do you do if for example you are not finished with cleaning the kitchen, certain deadline task etc. - how you compensate? Thank you for your very inspirational work. ❤
Thanks for this, I don’t feel so guilty delegating tasks that I could do, but I don’t have the time nor want to do! 😂 This year, my husband and I agreed to hire professional window cleaners and landscapers to help us keep up with maintenance. My children pretty much have been doing their own laundry since they were 9, and now I’m trying to teach the tweens how to clean their bathrooms in hopes they will keep it tidy since they have to clean it themselves now! Lol

❤Dearest Jennifer, your videos on time management for homemakers are extremely valuable and this one is not an exception. Blessings 🙏💞
I finally realized that "Time-blocking" is just a new-fangled term for Schedule-- as in, make a schedule for my day and stick to it!

These are great thoughts, I just don’t know how to implement them well with my life with a toddler. My time is not really my own. Eventually….
You are my role model 😊🙏 An absolutely honest confession 😊

Such very helpful tips for time blocking. I have no one to delegate to. I am working to achieve a balance. Thanks much.
Time blocking is great but yes, the transitions are my dragon! I love that you get excited to move on now. That’s a fun way to solve the problem!
Love this topic as I try to create balance & structure in my days. That sweater is such a beautiful color! And I love the butterfly necklace. 🦋🌺💓
Can you share more on which homemaking tasks you have delegated besides the laundry
Be proud of how hard you are trying.
I do this well in my classroom; I teach 8th grade ELA. I'm working on developing this at home as a 2024 goal.

That's a great question! It changes depending on what day it is. I do different things each day and block out my week too. I can do a video on this.

Happy New Year Jennifer!

How ironic that this is your video today. I was just thinking I need to time block. I have very poor time managing skills.
