Does the NEW 2020 Toyota Tundra SR5 have ENOUGH changes?

  • The 2020 Tundra is here and there have been some updates by Toyota. Under the hood is one engine option for the new year. It is the 5.7L V8 pumping out 381 HP & mated to a 6-speed gearbox. On the inside there are some wanted updates, finishes and there is the return of the crew cab. Did Toyota do enough to make you want to go out and buy the 2020 Tundra?

      toyo 250 this exactly what matters. People forget that Toyota didn’t need bells and whistles because they didn’t go bottom up like their competitors did during the auto bell out! Those other trucks are showy but poor quality when it comes down to it! I know how to add my own bells and whistles if needed. What I want is a reliable truck that doesn’t break like Ford and Chevy did!

    I used to be a GM guy. Then l gave up on then. I bought a 2012 F-150, and l loved the truck. Not one single problem in the 6 years that l owned it. Due to circumstances, l had to sell it and reluctantly bought a 2012 Tacoma. My opinion of Toyota changed very quickly. If l was looking for a fullsize pickup again. I'd but a Tundra!!!!!!! Toyota Pickups don't seem to get the best mileage by a long shot. But the reliability is what l want, and I'm willing to give up some mileage to get it. Great Video!!!!

    Great review. One thing I would like to point out is the basic SR5 doesn't have the center console/shifter or power driver's seat. You have to have at least the "SR5 upgrade package" for about $950 to get it. Well worth it in my opinion to get the power seat for those long trip adjustments so your back doesn't seize up. Just bought one yesterday and then watched this review, so I kind of did things in reverse order. I didn't know the rear window came down until I saw this, so I ran outside and tried it (my dog will love this), so you see how much research I did. But I didn't have to do too much. This is my second one. The first is a 2001 with 340K miles that my son has now. Best vehicle I ever owned. Never did anything but routine maintenance and changed out the front ball joints and a wheel bearing, just wear and tear stuff. Some of things I read were that the truck is outdated. I think Toyota is more concerned that oil doesn't leak all over your driveway in 10 years or your fuel pump doesn't crap out every 75K miles or your fancy valve lifter control system doesn't go haywire than chasing the latest "tech" trend. Had a great experience with my 2012 Camry (240K miles) as well. I'm sorry. I've had a Suburban, a Sierra and a Taurus. I've done my duty with two out of the big three.

      Toyota doesn't forget. It's intentional, because their customers are dummies and fall for marketing gimmicks. Toyota used the K platform for the Camry from 2002 up to 2017 Camry. They're STILL using the K platform for their 2020 Lexus RX. NX is still on the "New" MC platform that dates to the 2005 RAV4 which also dates to the 2001 Corolla. 2 decades on a platform. I had a 2002 Tundra SR5 4x4 that I owned for 17 years and finally broke down and bought the '19 Limited CM 4x4 with the moon roof last December. Nothing wrong with that 2002, it drove like a champ but it did need a paint job from all those years baking in the SoCal sun. I just fell in love with the new Tundra when I saw it and had been saving for a new one all those years. That's the plus with a truck like this. You will have it a LOOOOOONG time after it's paid off; take advantage of that and save for the next one. By the time the truck dies, you should be able to afford another one easily as you didn't shell out money to keep it running all those years. I'll be retiring in a few years and buying a trailer for full time living (researching those now) and will do some traveling. Tundra should be perfect for hauling me around and providing the reliability I have always had with them. Been driving nothing but Toyota 4x4 trucks since 94 and all the doodads on the other brands don't sway me.

    People like to complain of the Tundra mpg. But if you look at all the other 1/2 ton trucks with v8s their all in the 15/20 mpg ballpark. So 13/17 isn’t that bad. Plus you get the bulletproof 5.7 engine and Toyota quality. The Tundra is solid and looks the best still. Then it destroys the other trucks with towing capacity. It’s a hard choice for me between the Tacoma and Tundra.

    I don't know what everybody's gripe is about gas mileage remember back in the day when we used to have 454s and 490s in Fords and Chevys and Dodges and they had power up the Wazoo a course they were gas guzzlers well that's what the 5.7 liter is on the tundra I've got a 2014 and I've got the big 5.7 l so it sucks a little gas I don't give a crap because when I bought a big truck I knew I had a truck with lots of pull power and horse power part of that trade-off was losing gas mileage if you can't afford it don't buy a truck that's how it works also for everybody that b**** and sniffles and complains about the ride Comfort who gives a crap it's a truck for God's sakes my dad has GMCs I've had Ford's in the past and they all ride kind of rough that's a truck that's what trucks do everybody's gotten all wussy and seems to want to be able to have a truck that rides like a Cadillac if you want to ride like a Cadillac by a Cadillac trucks are big and powerful and in turn you sacrifice some softness in the ride. By the way I love my Tundra and I would gladly buy another one if it's necessary to do so I will never own another Ford or a GM product ever. Oh and one more thing my dad rode in my Tundra and feels that it's a much smoother ride than his GMC so go from there folks seems to be a lot of trolls that come on this site looking to start crap or they work for the competitors or they just flat-out hate Tundras and are all for the other brands quit trying to sway potential buyers from buying a good quality product let them make the choice stop tainting them with your false and disinformation

    How come toyota doesn't make bigger trucks to compete with others? The tundra may tow a few thousand pounds to the tacoma but the payload is like 200 pound difference. If they made say like a tundra 3500 to put a slide in camper in I would get it.
    The back seats should go down flat too like the Ram does. Since they dont you loose some waisted space.

    Toyota has rested on their laurels with their pickup truck. Fuel economy is not keeping up with their competition at all. Even with the 6 speed, the highway mpg (in top gear) should be very similar to the competition and it's not. Toyota can do it. So, why don't they? Some poor management here on the Tundra.

      4.30 rear end, heavier truck (no aluminum body or bed) and no engine start/stop or cylinder deactivation mean the same mpg since 2007 (disable AFM/DFM on a silverado with the 5.3l and you'll see similar mpg to the Tundra).

      @@cnoyes72 Hard to believe that is the full story. Toyota rates the Tundra at 13/18/15. The 4 mpg (city) and 5 mpg (highway) off of the GMC Sierra's figures. Just looking at top gear fuel economy, 500lbs or so, axle ratio, and DFM can't (at least it seems like an amazing feat) account for 5 mpg difference. That's a heckuva difference. When I first saw the start/stop systems on cars, the EPA numbers for city didn't change from one year to the next (the example I'm using is a Chevy Impala with 4 cylinder). I would imagine that the DFM systems have been improved, but when they first came out there was an indication on the dash when they were in use and in TH-cam video at that time, the deactivation was for very short periods of time only. The other interesting thing I've noticed is that in the car lines, Toyota seems to be very capable of achieving high mpg numbers with it's V6 with no cylinder deactivation and no aluminum body. Since, the overall ratio in top gear from the 6 to 8 speed doesn't usually change much, they improved the highway mpg number by other means. They could do better without the fancy DFM and start / stop system is what I'm getting at. I don't know that once a vehicle is under way, if the horsepower required to keep moving differs much for 500 lbs weight?

    • @cnoyes72
      @cnoyes72 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ksorsomeplace People are buying kits that permanently disable AFM/DFM. I also take those MPG figures from the companies with a huge grain of salt. More importantly, I really don't care about fuel efficiency (if I did, I wouldn't have a full sized truck with a v8).
