the daughter was in her 20s at the time, so it would have been very difficult to send the instructor to jail without her having to make a bunch of statements and facing all sorts of scrutiny as well as digging up that trauma in front of a whole audience and judge as well as probably her abuser. even then the situation must have been 20-ish years ago now, so as sad as it is it's very likely that trying for jail time would have been worse for the victim than the abuser who would probably get three years at most. the parent handled the situation remarkably well, even if they should have definitely provided her with therapy and trauma counselling.

Ok almost completely unrelated but I just remembered it and thought I should share this cute story with whoever sees this.
So I used to babysit for this young mom underneath us in our old apts and this mom was probably the greatest mom I'd ever met.
You could tell her kid really loved her and she did too.
So anyway this mom has taught her kid (she was ab 3 at the time) to say thank you whenever she was handed anything and how she taught her that was to get really happy after the kid said it.
So one day as I was babysitting I was watching a movie (the Lion King) with her and I was an emotional mess so when Mufasa died I cried (ik ik I'm a mess) so this lil adorable kid comes up to me and hugs my leg and says "Thank you, thank you" like the cutest little thing in the universe and I cried even more.

to all the dads carrying daughters, here’s a lil something for you. my dad used to not carry me after I was about 6 (?) in order to teach me to be independent, also bc I was getting heavy and I had a little brother lol.
anyways, about a decade or more down the road, my dad got a stroke, and while he’s still able to walk, he can’t ever carry me, or give me a proper hug, or drive me to school anymore. in one of our more emotional convos, he told me the one thing he regretted was not carrying me more as a little girl, or driving me to places, because now he’s never able to do it again.
so carry your kids, spoil them, because one day you may never do it again.

At the time I didn’t even know that was a thing someone could do. It never crossed my mind. Somehow she’s always 5 steps ahead of me.

Wouldn't do it in front of us but if left alone for a minute... when he was ready to show us (9 months) he was almost running. He does use words with us but has a much better vocabulary than he lets on and understands way more than that.

Eventually it would get to the point where it would have gone on for months, possibly years until I think they are getting bored of it and will soon grow up and not sneak snacks anymore. I’d careful choose the night and sit with the exact snack they enjoy the most, eating some of it. Think like individual servings or something. When I hear their footsteps retreating because their sneaking game was up whether they liked it or not, I would turn to their hiding spot and calmly/gently offer them some. They might hesitate but come out and I would offer to let them stay up as long as they wanted, just relaxing and having fun on a school night. The next day off too, if they’re too tired. Just the one day. Maybe more after but yeah idk I was just rambling but it would be nice

My aunt knew I was a lesbian by the time I was 16. Apparently she just turned to my uncle one day while watching TV and said "Jenny's gay, right?". He agreed, shrugged, and they went back to watching TV. Meanwhile I didn't even figure it out until my mid-20s. I'm 31 now and had been feeling guilty about not coming out to her and her being the last to know until she just casually dropped it into conversation at Christmas. She found my shock hilarious. Looking back my complete and utter lack of interest in boys was pretty obvious to everyone who wasn't my in denial mother.

I shudder to think what my parents know about me that they won't tell me about.
However, I know a lot of things about my parents that they don't know I know. I was REALLY good at going through there stuff and putting it back exactly as it was. As far as I'm aware, I never got caught.
My parents are some freaks. A lot of things I wish I didn't know.

PRO TIP: it looks SUPER suspicious when you clear your browser and search history.
Instead of clearing it completely, you can actually delete individual pages from it. Get rid of the risky shit, and make sure you've got some wholesome stuff scattered throughout, and your parents will never suspect a thing.

Well getting the law involved would mean the details have to come out in the open. If her daughter didn't report it/didn't even tell her own mother, then it implies the daughter might be too traumatized, embarrassed, etc for that info to go public.

Maybe if you don’t want your kids to know you went through their phone, don’t do it?
That’s kinda the one place that kids can say whatever they want, and it’s okay. Let that be unless provoked. If you think you have a reason to go through it, then by all means.

real quick, don't ever say this.
im not a parent but i'm a queer kid. if this persons child really is gay, that's such a sad thing to see. please don't ever say this, and don't ever openly say that to your kid, that's honestly such a heartbreaking thing that someone would say that, even if this persons child IS straight, that's still not right to say. I don't know how to explain how I feel about this in a proper manner, but i'm begging you, do not say this about your child.

if you know your kids are(ig really failing at) sneaking food, please make sure that they get help and it isn’t an eating disorder or doesn’t turn into one. my parents know how much i eat and it already is an eating disorder and probably has been ever since i was younger, if it wasn’t just me having early symptoms and being at high risk for one. and if you have an eating disorder, ik its hard but PLEASE atleast try to get help, even if its talking to a friend with experience or something.

When I was younger, I pretended to fall asleep in my dad’s car. Him and his girlfriend were convinced that I was asleep. I had an open bag of chips in my lap, so what did I do?? I grabbed a few chips and ate them… with my eyes closed… still pretending to be asleep.
His girlfriend hated me and heard the rustling & chewing, so she snitched on me. The rest of the car ride was awkward because I didn’t know what to do - “should I continue to pretend-sleep or stay awake to eat chips?”

while this person is right in my case,
my parents always confronted me and i'm still a horrible liar with a tendency to always feel guilt for one person or another.
I was confronted for staying up till like 4am TWICE, got caught on roblox when I wasn't supposed to be also twice, and got confronted about expressing my sexuality online twice.
I still continue to express my sexuality because like hell am I gonna stop doing that if I can't openly do it around my family. I still have some online friends (not that close but we care a lot about each other) because they're all around my age and we're all sweet crackheads, and i'm allowed back on youtube and roblox, though I don't stay up late because I understand how important it is for me to keep a healthy sleep schedule.
it comes down to how your kid behaves, if you outright confront them and you're raising a rambunctious or super chaotic child, they'll probably get more sneaky, but in my case, because i'm a guilt-ridden sympathetic and empathetic child I got really bad at lying and sneaking things, especially because my parents now drill me with questions sometimes about maybe what I'm listening to or what I'm doing. It all depends, but if you also know what your child is doing, don't let them do it too long without confronting or dropping hints if it's not healthy (ie. I stayed up past my bedtime till about 2am for 2 months in the third grade and I assume my dad caught on about a week or two before he confronted me because that was obviously unhealthy as I got up at 6am)

My parents were like this too. Honestly all it did were severely damage my conversation skills, raised me thinking it was me vs. them, kept my confidence down, and really stopped me from experiencing… life. I hope youre ok in that situation tho. Imo if u think your parents are holding u back from enjoying simple things thatll make u happy and learn more abt life, its ok to break some rules. Just dont go too far and get kicked out. 🏳️‍🌈

I know a lot of my little sisters secrets I just continue to keep them🤣😭 She gets given candy from friends constantly and hides it in her closet and she knows the password to the phone for games she’s not supposed to use more than 3 hours a week and will bring it upstairs to play. Many other things have happened that I just happen to know. Unfortunately for everyone in my family I have incredibly good hearing. It did help my sister out once when I found out my neighbor(a few years older than her) was trying to threaten her into doing something

18:20 is so god damn true and the thing is I don’t really talk so the only time they notice anything from me is from my expressions. I specifically hate being touched (not inappropriately, but rather like grabbing hands and stuff) by the guys.I also hate it when people, even people I may not like as much as my friends, get in trouble. I feel guilty as hell getting them in trouble for no apparent reason. Whenever the teacher talks about how I’m doing and stuff, I try to put on a fake face, but it’s so obvious. Surprisingly, they get fooled, which is probably them realizing I son’s want anyone in trouble, and when they do get to me and the people who get in trouble apologize I say it’s fine but they think I’m still upset but I’m just embarrassed about leaking my emotions about how I feel and how I feel bad. Just ranted and I don’t want to get rid of it so yeah
