I was going to ask the same question. I've always replaced the gasket just because it is cheap insurance against leaks. Good to know it is not necessary for these.
I prefer to replace gasket if it's available, as one guy said, good insurance against possible leaks. I usually evac the fluid from the dipstick tube when dropping the pan. I've had maybe 2 drain plugs come back because they were seeping no matter high much more you tried to tighten them up! Came across your channel maybe a week ago and working at a ford dealer your content is great!
That's ARod for this video , did what u showed in the video. No leaks till I took her on the highway. Next morning there was a slow leak from drain plug. Couldn't get to stop , got a new drain plug . Even with new drain plug still leaking. Now had to get a new trans pan. Tomorrow I will find out if it works. Thanks for coming out with this video.
Hello 👋. My truck is in my shop ready for transmission service. This afternoon. Drain and replace filter. Refill then drain at cooler until clean then refill with new. Top off and go on with my day 😊. Have a good afternoon. Jeff sc.
Arod, just changed my 2017 lariat PowerStroke 6r140. Was a breeze, did it at home on my back. I dumped the transfer case while I was under there. 83k miles oil was dark with some pink. Used 9 qts total for the same drain, filter, and fill U did. Thanks for the vid!💯✌🏼
79 in/lbs on those filter bolts and it is extremely important. they go into an aluminum valve body and any warping will cause shifting issues. The pan bolts are 80 in/lbs.
Just traded the Excursion for a 17’ 6.7. What a damn beast compared to the old 7.3. I just changed my fluid/filter last weekend. Mine took 9qts when I was done. Took me forever to get the lift arms positioned comfortably. It looks like I did it the same way you do so that makes me feel better.
Great video , you explained everything clearly and simply and noted the correct parts to purchase ( im in Aust - and getting my powerstroke F250 serviced here is a problem - so I do it myself ) . Many thanks from Queensland Australia ...
Changed my trans fluid and filter at 62,000 miles to install a new pressure solenoid to bump the pressure to my clutches to 300 psi when over 15lbs of boost. I tow and haul about 12,000lbs when on the road so I wanted to help keep my clutches from slipping when hauling up mountains here in the west. My fluid was as red coming out as it was going back in. I have a 2015 F350 CC Superduty with a 6.7 Powerstroke. Has been an awesome truck for for the last six years. Added a Amsoil dual oil filter setup on it with a 2 micron secondary filter. Electric trucks are a joke. My truck will go 400 miles fully loaded and only take 10 minutes to fill up and do it again all day long.
GOLDEN RULE - Never use anything but Motorcraft filters. I sent the wrong filter with my truck to the local shop for a trans fluid change. They ran down to O'Really? and installed the cheapest filter available. The filter media separated and was sucked up into the lift tube. Now all of the fluid was being filtered in an area about the size of a quarter. All that money and good intent to prevent issues down the drain over a few dollars of quality.
You rock Thank you for anther great video Friday is the best day of the week because I get to watch your great video and learn a bout the ford power stroke
For the life of me can not read the dip stick on these trucks whether it's the trans or engine oil. For the trans I measure what I take out and add the same amount. I do that about every other year and change filter. Fluid never gets nasty. I prefer that then going somewhere to do a flush
Thank you very much, you taught me everything, I will change the gearbox, engine, gearbox and transmission oil, giving a general review on my 7.3, 2000, I am learning a lot with you, thank you very much.

I'm gonna be changing filter and fluid in the coming week or so on my 15 f350 (160 hp tune) and while I have the pan down, I was thinking about installing the bd diesel line pressure solenoid. Boosts up to 300psi. I don't have shift issues but more for a saving clutchs kinda thing. Have you seen or heard anything on those?
Would it be a good idea to do this same procedure on my truck and then drive it a few days after the filter and 8-9 quarts and then just drain the pan again and re add new tranny fluid since i have bo way to extract all of the fluid myself? If that makes sense. Thanks for the video, you do good work.

What's the difference between a trans service and the fluid/filter job you did? I am guessing you also drop the valve body and/or lead frame (assuming that it has one) and clean things up, possibly getting out more used fluid?

I have a 2019 6.7, went to do a drain, fill and filter change yesterday only to discover the drain pan doesn’t have a plug. Local dealer said Ford isn’t making the drain pan with a plug anymore?? Have a part number to a replacement pan with a drain plug?
I ended up ordering a new pan with a drain plug. First swap might be alittle messy or either I’ll just drill a small hole in the lowest point of the pan and let it drain completely.
I believe I’m well overdue to change my filter and fluid on my ‘11. I bought it about 8 years ago with 124,000 mi on it and I have 221k now. I don’t know what was changed before but I am noticing in 3rd gear a hiccup in rpm during acceleration. Like a slight pause. After getting past it I can let er’ eat and she will take off. Could filter change and new fluid resolve this…
Hey brother I’m having shifting issues with my 2019 F350. Just turned 27k. 1st gear shudder and downshifting to try and pass someone it jumps from 4th to 5th and slips in the process. Fluid looks cherry red but has a light hint of black. I can still drive it just have to baby it. And what beats all is that I’m up here in Connecticut cause the ol lady is a travel nurse. Needing some help or guidance.
I just did this to my own 2016 that just passed the 100K kms last month. Right now, I got a 2013 6.7 in my bay getting a new rad and EGR cooler to correct a coolant leak and DTCs P0401 and P2074 setting. Just need to wait for our local broken fastener extractor to come by and extract the broken off EGR up-pipe bolt before I carry on and complete the repair. By the way, do you have any tricks to removing the EGRT 'A' sensors on the 3.2L Transits coming in for P040D? Every single one of them I've had, I've needed to keep heat on the exhaust manifold throughout the entire old sensor removal process.
Do all year 6R140’s re-use the trans pan gasket?? Ever have any issues with them leaking?

I have a 2019 f250 6.7 nearing 170k that has never had the tans fluid serviced is it too late to change it ?
Drain & fill bud, drain & fill
Ford owners manual says 150k miles for flush, you said this truck has 100k , I have 126k should I do a change now or wait till 150k? Fluid is still red
Trans fluid gets changed every 60k. I dont care what the book says. My recommendations are based on experience and what I see on a daily.....
Awesome thanks for the input! I will get to changing mine!
Also do you recommend removing cooler line and cycle all old fluid out?
U can no need to...just drain and fill pal
I am doing mine next week
Werd!
Oouuu that bish was durty....great video as always see you next week 💪💪🤘
Werd werd
Do you refill through the dipstick?
Yepppppp
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod ok thank you, I may try this on my own. Bought a ‘14 back in February with only 63K. I’d like to get it done just for peace of mind
Hey ARod, I have a 2017 f550 and I'm getting a code for the TCC. Do you have a video on how to replace the TCC? Also, what does the Trans service include? (The one the customer didn't want to do.)
I do not, sry.
I have a 2019 6.7, went to do a drain, fill and filter change yesterday only to discover the drain pan doesn’t have a plug. Local dealer said Ford isn’t making the drain pan with a plug anymore?? Have a part number to a replacement pan with a drain plug?
Ive done 19s with plugs
I have a 2017 with no drain plug. Seems messy without.
I ended up ordering a new pan with a drain plug. First swap might be alittle messy or either I’ll just drill a small hole in the lowest point of the pan and let it drain completely.
😭😭😭
@@kahluakona1970 My 2017 F450 has a drain plug. Weird that the drain plugs seems to be hit or miss..at least according to these comments.
So I broke one of the filter mounting bolts. Does anyone know the part number?
What's the most common reasoning for these failing? New 2016 F250 6.7 owner. Thanks man!
Reasoning for what....
I guess I meant what are common problems with these? Are they pretty reliable? @@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
Yes. U stay locked here & you will know everything you need
Oh dang gotta get that subscriber number up lolz@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
how do you add the fluid back in?
Thru the dip stick tube
Do you have a Trans service video out ?
I believe I’m well overdue to change my filter and fluid on my ‘11. I bought it about 8 years ago with 124,000 mi on it and I have 221k now. I don’t know what was changed before but I am noticing in 3rd gear a hiccup in rpm during acceleration. Like a slight pause. After getting past it I can let er’ eat and she will take off. Could filter change and new fluid resolve this…
Could be the valve body. Watch our video on that
What’s too hot for these transmissions? I’ve had mine up to 235-240.
Seems a lil hott to me. Maybe 210 220s
If the transmission is running hot, would it be helpful to replace the OEM drain pan with an aftermarket deep pan to hold more fluid?
How wld that help the concern...adding more fluid isnt goin to do a thing. U need to swap out the dang cooler
What about the torque converter
Ur good. Ur changin most of it out anyway. No way to drain the thing anyway without takin it out...
How many quarts?????? Can't find it in the owners manual.
.....brother...read thru the comments...
Got a video for a 10r140? How do u check the fluid on those?
Notchet....tryin to get one in production
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod if you make one let me know
You all will nobody
Do you check the level after the 8qts and then add if needed up to 8.5 qts??
YES
How many times can you reuse the trans pan gasket.
Depends on the condition and the last bone head who touched it. Many times.....
No torque spec on a re-usable gasket? Brave man!
Nope
Thats a big boy Pan! You would think in this day / Era an external filter would be possible. I think Allison has a external filter??
Noticed you don't do a flush. Customer request only? Or, don't you recommend? How many miles would you recommend?
Dont recommend & 60k max
That leaves around 4 quarts of old fluid in the trans right? Do you recommend a flush.
Just a drain an fill....
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I guess after a few hundred miles that would work, mixed up good then.
I have a 2012 6.7 with almost 400k do you think is a good idea to replace the fluids?
....is this a trick* question
No, I just don't want to risk replacing the trans fluid and then starting to slip!
Sorry pal....u bout covered everything...next stop is inspections
The 6R140 seem to run hotter than the 5R110? I’m new to a 2019 F-450 from an 07 lol
Yepp i do the same thing....! Too bad you dont have that ProMaxx kit that I told ya about
How much does to have transmission service done on 2014 F350 6.7
Huh
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod sorry, for full service, what am I looking at to pay & what's included in service
Hay A-Rod are you still seeing 6.0 and 6.4 coming in the shop
Yepp sure are. More 6.0s than the other garbage 1......
I’ve done the pan dump twice once was six quarts and the second was 7.2 quarts
👍👍👍
You just fill it through the dipstick?
....yes
So this says you put in 8 qt why does the manual says to put 18?
I duno bout that. That trans dont hold 18 qts yo.....
Well I got enough oil for 2 changes now
At how many miles is recomended change the trans fluid and filter?
60k is what i recommend!!
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Is this interval the same if you regularly tow 20k lbs? Thanks for having a channel devoted to Ford Powerstroke!!!
I wld b cutting that in half. Keep up
