I only started junk journaling a couple of months ago, and i didnt have any crafting supplies. However i did have a lot of make up! And so I used old make up and the same blending brushes Gayle uses. You can use anything, blush, eyeshadow, bronzer, even tried stamping with mascara and lipstick. Still use some glitter eyeshadow sometimes, for the nice effect it gives.
I love distressing around the edges, but sometimes I want a softer pastel edge, so I use the inexpensive blush and eyeshadow colors that I pick up at the dollar store. After applying, I do buff over the blush/eyeshadow with a tissue to pick up any excess.
All such great ideas for white pages!!! There's just so many things you can do with them....just have fun doing them...most important rule of all!!!!! Hugs, sweet Gayle!
I keep a small spray bottle of instant coffee on my work desk to use with stencils and such, and to get rid of white space- in answer to another way to distress. I love the way you distress! The first video of yours I watched a few months ago, I thought- why does she distress so much? I was totally new to art/junk journalling and just watching to learn how. Then I started my first altered book and ended up doing mine just like yours. It just makes it look older and more 'loved' I guess. :)
Thank you so much Gayle for this video, I am watching it (as you will see) almost 2 years later!!!!! The white pages are always a challenge for me, so this video is so timeous. Thank you for all your inspiration and sharing with us. Blessings and hugs from Cape Town. Diana
Gayle I like to use sewing tissue over the top of things to distress or on white pages. I have my Old Paper digi that I made to go on the back of a page that has a printed side so there is still journal space but it's not white. I will be putting a new Old Paper digi out this week. Great ideas Gayle this was very helpful and thanks for the shout out. Hugs, Amy
I like your fabric swatches, so colourful. My most preferred way to cover a white page currently is something in between stamping, inking, and collaging. White pages are real sweethearts, aren't they? Thank you for sharing your journal ideas! 👌🏻🙏🏻🎨✂
Kinda new to journaling and Love Love your ideas. I have gone WAY back in your videos trying to do the things you do. Seems like mine always look like kindergarden art class! Lol I dont have many crafting goodies yet....but to make the aged edges I use a compact foundation in a very dark shade. Using makeup sponges to go over the edges. It is a learned technique in itself! What a mess I made when I first started. Thank you for all you do! My dream is to have a full craftroom!
Cari Davila haha! Me too! But practice makes pretty! I myself have picked up a few tricks and repurposed items to make up for my lack of crafting equipment and supplies necessity if mothee of invention 🐵
Love how you transformed the white pages. I love the distressed look. Sometimes when I'm watching you, I say, "Don't forget to distress that." LOL. I have the makeup brushes and I find the ink wipes off real well with wet wipes and the same brushes can be used for more than one color.
Thanks again for sharing how to get rid of white papers. I thank all that gave other ways to distress also. I love everything you do, and teach. Don't worry about the negative comments or the thumbs down. There are always going to be negative or harmful people. You are terrific and loved by so many including me. Sending lots of love your way. May God continue to bless you and your family. Later😎
Hey Gayle - I usually don't get to comment since I watch you on TV either in the living room or in my craft room and craft along with you! You were my 1st digi download when I started getting into JJ! You are so creative and I've learned so much about collage from watching you - thank you for sharing your creativity! I use black gesso or white gesso mixed with some reinker, chalk or make up to change the gesso to any color you want. Mix reinker with water and spray to change the color of paper. To "distress" the paper you can always run the edge of the scissors or your nail to distress the edges of the paper. It doesn't change the color, but can age the page! Thank you again for sharing. Inky hugs, Cindy
This was amazing. I am fairly new to junk journaling and white pages were a glaring problem for me. Your suggestions have made me excited to have them instead of frustrated because they never fit with the "aged vintage" look that fill my pages. You are very kind to create videos that address specific viewer problems. I am busily attempting to catch up with your past videos, and none of them have failed to teach me and inspire me. Thank you.
Thankyou Gayle, this was very helpful. I’ve been waiting to get brave and start using some stencils and inks from my crafty stash. The green leaves are very pretty and I love the distressed look. Ah the baby photo, how beautiful! My husband and I recently went to a collectibles fair and I found a bundle of vintage photos. So sad they weren’t with their families but so happy to have rescued them :)
I feel the same way about the vintage photos. I recently found one at a flea market that was identified, so I looked up the name in Family Search, found him on a census, and then posted the picture to deadfred.com. Hope his family finds him!
I have never questioned the thumbs down button until now....why would someone do that, especially when you are watching a creative process of an artist. If you don't like what she is doing, just leave. I think personally that a thumbs down MIGHT be appropriate for technical issues never addressed. Petty and hurtful and inappropriate in my opinion. Gayle, I love your art work and subscribe because it is creative, a teaching method, and I love your personality. Keep creating, and boo to those who are negative. It hurts me that they hurt you. Love ya, go girl Gayle!
Aw, thanks Brenda! Those ornery thumbs down used to bother me, but I don’t even notice them any more. 99.9% of my TH-cam pals are just wonderful, like you! So I just try to concentrate on my positive fellow crafters. You all rock! 😘❤️
I found your suggestions very helpful, and I really did craft along! I got lots of mod pod gear goobers on me, lol! And I thought, Gayle would definitely be saying, “Ew!” At on point I was hoping my open container of m. p. and I almost spilled it. That’s why there are laws against that sort of thing. I love how you are always lifting other people up and encouraging them , like the mother daughter team with the shop and all the crafters that you support with you design team efforts. They are lucky to have you!
I love your ideas as usual. What I’ve done in the past is copy coffee dyed paper on the back using my printer. Works great. And I’ve been dyeing paper using the method of medieval mirage. 👍🏻👍🏻
I think I've said, I have those brushes. And I love them! I use one color per brush, also. I keep them in individual baggies. Not sure you have to, but I didn't want a darker color to rub off on a brush with a lighter color, if storing them together. And, if you are not stenciling, and just putting a distressed look on a page, holding the brush at an angle works pretty well. I saw this on another you tube video. At an angle covers better than using it flat and going across the paper. Love that stencil you're using!! TFS! 💟 Suzy xx
I love the look of scrunching paper up (it can be designated scrunching or 'trash' scrunching and then putting archival ink on it with very light pressure to just pick out the raised creases. My favorite color is black for this technique. Note that the paper does end up "shrinking" some.
I use pastel chalks and a blender brush (smaller) from dollar tree in the makeup section. use charcoal, eye shadow, shoe polish and I also use Southworth Resume paper in Ivory. Love it! No white space!
Great solutions Gayle. I love your distressing. Not too much at all. I enjoyed heading about your trip last week. It was interesting to see what you did with your travel jourlal. Really pretty. I couldn't help thinking that I'd love to get a peek at Mr. A's journal. ?? 😜💚💚B x
I’m on the soapbox with you! If people don’t like what you do...they don’t have to watch. Positive vibes are best xxx You keep doing what your doing. The proof is in your numbers that your doing the right thing xxxx
Brilliant ideas, this is one video to download for future reference. Give Alfie a smooth and hug from me and I hope he’s having a great time giving the squirrels grief!!!! TFS 😻 🐿🌳🐶
I like distressing with my dauber, but I do love using the brushes for stenciling. If I may give you a hint for not getting that dark ink at the beginning when using the brushes, I always just tap the brush on a scrap first before using it on my actual page. Also, I clean my brush between colors by simply tapping it a few times on the scrap paper until the color disappears. It’s been working fine for me. I hope this helps. 😃
Love the idea what’s out would to do with white pages. I learned many things by watching many different tutorials ... the way the artist would do with them to make their journals to die for! Thanks for sharing!
Great ideas for getting rid off unwanted white pages. Sometimes it are not the white pages I want to cover, but also the too busy pages that I come accros in a journal that I made and I am not happy with anymore. You give me so much inspiration, Thank you Gail 🥰
Try using shabby shutters or weathered wood to stencil. I like the two color effect with the vines. For an even softer effect, make up brushes work well. Especially the big fluffy ones.
Perfect timing for me watching this video. - playing catch up again, went and watched Rachel’s 100 day project videos. I’m doing s beach/seaside journal and I too printed my kids on regular white copy paper. Thanks for sharing your ideas!!
Hi Gayle I print on both sides of the paper so that you do not have any white space. Usually most kits have some neutral background pages, or I put a piece of tea stained paper into the copier and copy it onto the back.
This is super useful thanks Gayle. Right now I had been stamping or placing a sticker on the corner of pages and putting a strip of washi on blank pages.
Hi Gayle!! This was so good for someone new to the journal addiction, heehee. I have only finished 2 Journals and I struggled with the white pages Thanks for the fresh new ideas! I did do some distressing with my watercolors and a wet wipe before I started buying the inks.
I just can’t believe this!!! I’m working on my very first journal for my granddaughters & I was wondering what I was going to do with the White Pages. I’m so excited!!!!! TFS your creations Gayle! You truly inspire me & of course make me laugh tooo! Blessings & a Big Hug!!!!❤️❤️
Very Beautiful ! Like to watch your Videos. I will have to look for that scissor with the jag (if that is the Right word) and also that brush for stencils is great!
I have just started junk journaling, Thank you Gale! Love, love love all your videos. You are so helpful, and I love to hear you talk. Always waiting for your next video!!!!!!!
Good morning Gayle! I think you answered alot of peoples questions on how to work on white pages. Thanks, I know what I can do now. Thanks for another great video. Hugs ❤
This was perfect for me. I'm just about to sew my first junk journal together and have lots of white pages. I'll use some of these tips to take care of those. I'm glad I saw this video before I sewed the pages into the cover!
I'm a relentless distresser...love the dept it gives. You do it so well and I copied you and went to the dollar store and got some beauty sponge thingies to use for the inks i use the most. I was going through lil dabbers like crazy, thanks for the tip :)

Thank you for such a wonderful video...I normally don't have trouble filling a white page, but you always show glorious pages and I learned a few new ones. I keep thinking of that 3 legged desk too, 😆 go back and get it!!! TFS
Thank you for this video. I am new to junk journaling and I have had a hard time coming up with ideas for covering up white pages. This has given me some great ideas.
All great ideas for decorating those boring white pages! I feel I get plenty of screen time with all the TH-cam videos I watch, but I wished we got cable TV when I heard you talk about Curiousity Inc.! I learned the name from the comments ❤
Love Love these ideas... Oh I can't forget the days when I did a "controlled" burn around every page of everything! In 8th grade there was a map of the Explorer's Sea routes to New Worlds. Unfortunately I had used those 1960's markers with that smell... that are highly flammable... and so that project for Social Studies was a bust! lol I loved all your pretty artistic ideas.
I do happen to love spider webbing tho, I've seen some in the fields with morning dew drops on the web and the sun sparkling through, just beautiful. Very hard workers those little 'Charlotte's"...great video , as per the usual....
I love the old eyeshadows, and the powdered ones are also great to use on paper. Bronzers are great for a vintage look.
How fun!!! I'd love to see some in person!!!!! Did you show any on Instagram if you have an account? What a neat idea!!
Dollar Tree has 1.00 powder eyeshadows. They work great for putting on hints of color and I love the shine.
@@2ndChanceCrafting if you use eyeshadow, does it rub off on the other pages or your hands if you touch it?
Michelle Dekker hairspray sets the eye shadows!
I love distressing around the edges, but sometimes I want a softer pastel edge, so I use the inexpensive blush and eyeshadow colors that I pick up at the dollar store. After applying, I do buff over the blush/eyeshadow with a tissue to pick up any excess.

Thank you, Gayle. Very helpful! I like it when you also use your corrugated cardboard to stamp the distressed lines onto a page. 😀
Keryn O'Keeffe Me too...such a clever idea!
Thank you for showing how to deal with white pages. Very helpful. You always know what to do! ❤
Gayle I like to use sewing tissue over the top of things to distress or on white pages. Bye Bye white page and they look fabulous, thanks for the tips and as always just love your stencils.
Love distressing!!!!! It finishes the idea! Love it❤️🇨🇦
Thanks Gayle for the ideas. I also think a water soluble crayon type thing works well to distress, with baby wipe.

You asked about distress...I’ve used a brown shoe polish. Works really well I think! I love your work ethics too! Keep on distressing Gayle!
Maravilloso vídeo, muy inspirador... Mil gracias, Gayle! Saludos desde España.
Hi Gayle when you walked away could hardly hear you! A great job with white paper brilliant as I have a problem what to do!! Thank you, a real help!!
I would love to see your studio some time. I love watching your videos Gayle.
Love that first stenciling 😍 The gradation of green is beautiful!
I loved all those ideas. Thank you for your time and i have some digitals from your shop to use too. Be safe

Try using shabby shutters or weathered wood to stencil. I like the two color effect with the vines.

Great tips, Gayle! I just got my daughter’s brand new sewing machine, I just need to learn how to use it😂 xxx
These were all great ideas! Thanks to Jane for requesting this and to you for showing us!
The Journaling community is so generous and kind! Thanks for sharing. 😊

June Nicholls...me too! Hahahahaha
I do this also, I try to not have white pages. I have stenciled in the past.
This is what I do too. :)
Thank you for sharing the different ways to cover the white papers. 🤗
Gayle, I once saw a video where someone distressed and stenciled with old eye makeup or Dollar Tree makeup!
And I love how you distress!
So inspired, even after 4 years!
Thank you so much! ❤️
This is super useful thanks Gayle. Right now I had been stamping or placing a sticker on the corner of pages and putting a strip of washi on blank pages.

You, Gayle ARE aging beautifully! I assure you! Inside and out!
I love stamping on the white pages. Small clusters of fabric/paper are also nice to tuck here and there on a white page. 😁💜👍🏻
Very Beautiful ! Like to watch your Videos. I will have to look for that scissor with the jag (if that is the Right word) and also that brush for stencils is great!
That was a fabulous pocket you collaged! I love it!
Love watching your channel❤️
I stencil too on white pages. I too need to make a folder like yours. Will have to look up your old video. Thanks
You could also glue some die cuts or images directly to the page..around the edges so you can still journal!😁
Beautiful ! I enjoyed watching. Thank u so much Gayle.
Great ideas as always Gayle❣️❣️
Thank you for showing us what to do with white pages. I'm new to journaling as well and find myself having a lot of questions too. ❤️
Love these ideas! I often have white pages when I use my scrapbook paper. This is very helpful! Great video!
As always, Gayle, great tutorial! Love all the ideas.
You mentioned distressing with out distress ink, I know not everyone has them but I use my airbrush to create shading.
I enjoyed watching this and got some great ideas. Thanks so much for sharing with us. xx Maggie
Great techniques, Gayle. Thank you. My dog loves chasing squirrels too. Hi Alfie!
Amazing! In a matter of a few minutes you stenciled and distressed the paper. I love that stencil! I also love distressed papers. Love your ideas.

I'm a relentless distresser...love the dept it gives. You do it so well and I copied you and went to the dollar store and got some beauty sponge thingies to use for the inks i use the most. I was going through lil dabbers like crazy, thanks for the tip :)
Great ideas Gayle. I print on both sides and ink away. I love the distressed look. Thank you for sharing your ideas!!
Those are great tips. Thanks for sharing.
Great ideas! Love those stenciling brushes...a tool I don’t own, which is rare! 😂Off to Amazon...through, your link, of course! 😊
😘😘😘. Thank you, Paula!! ❤️
I love a good ink distress too! It doesn't look finished until I do.
When I didn’t have distress ink I distressed everything with acrylic paint and watercolours...
used it with a sponge that has texture, in Greece we call them sea sponges, but have found lots artificial ones in uk now that I live, basically is just sponge with big holes that are not of the same size, so it gave an effect and was very easy as I had the paints.
Very useful video as always you inspire and help me so much girl... thank you! Big hugs 🤗 love Mary xoxo
Thank you for such a wonderful video...I normally don't have trouble filling a white page, but you always show glorious pages and I learned a few new ones.
I keep thinking of that 3 legged desk too, 😆 go back and get it!!! TFS
I always look at a blank white page with a blank stare. I love your ideas, thanks for the inspiration
Thank you for this video. I am new to junk journaling and I have had a hard time coming up with ideas for covering up white pages. This has given me some great ideas.
Gayle thank u for such an informative video.😍🌴
Lots of fun ideas! Very inspiring! Thank you! xo
Thank so so much for sharing.
All great ideas for decorating those boring white pages!
I feel I get plenty of screen time with all the TH-cam videos I watch, but I wished we got cable TV when I heard you talk about Curiousity Inc.! I learned the name from the comments ❤
Erintube360 Curiosity is on TH-cam.
Yep, Peggy, that’s what I was going to say....check them out on You Tube! 😁❤️
Thank you for this video. I needed ideas about white space and you are the master of distressing.
Thank you for your tutorial it was very helpful, I'm binge watching your videos, they are very detailed enough for me to follow along, thank you ❤
I love the journaling page with your ledger paper and the trim piece from CraftyCatUSA. I went and got both kits to play with 😍
Thank you so much! ❤️
Great ideas, thanks so much!
You can tell how old I am...I thought of a phone book (white pages)...too funny...love this video ❤️
Oh, my goodness! Burnt edges!! I remember doing those!
I do happen to love spider webbing tho, I've seen some in the fields with morning dew drops on the web and the sun sparkling through, just beautiful. Very hard workers those little 'Charlotte's"...great video , as per the usual....
Nice ideas Gayle! Enjoyed the ideas from your subbies too! 👍
