    Well, another great walk. What I am coming to look forward to as well are the comments and tales of holidays that mean so much to people. It’s nice to know they had great memories. Thanks Tim.

    I visited Caister during my short stay in Yarmouth Sept 2017 & I'll always remember it because of the huge thunderstorm brewing inland which went out to sea, heralded by a big rainbow, 🌈 & I sat on the beach watching it for an hour. Absolutely spectacular.

    Spent so much of my childhood on that beach and watching the lifeboat launch. When the maroons went up one for inshore two for main lifeboats and three meant Doctor required on crew. The bravery of these men cannot be understated when on a cold stormy night, they got the call to launch following reports of distressed shipping. I have not been for several years and did not realise there was wheelchair access. I feel a trip coming on. Many thanks.

    My dads friend had a caravan in the 50s 60s, we had our holidays there every August. That pillbox on the beach you could walk into it in the early 50s, we watched it disappear over the years. Went to 'the never turn back' the year that it opened, sat outside with my brother with our lemonade and crisps. before that mum dad and thier friends used to go to the 'ship'. There used to be a brilliant fish and chip shop, the owner used to buy fish straight off the boat, I remember one called Eileen Summer, there were a few small boats that landed on the beach. Happy days.

    I was born in Caister. But mum moved us away when I was 2. Went back for holiday as nan lived there. I remember the curved see wall defence! And then it was loads of black tar stuff. It's amazing how much its changed over the years! I'm now 42 lol. My nan lived in Second Avenue. Goes right down to the beach. Loved the video. X

    I lived in the village for 24 years till 2012. Before that, I travelled through the village either to school or work until 1980. The changes I've seen over all that time are remarkable, and not all for the better. What was once a recognisable village community has been over developed with more housing sprouting up in previous 'green field' areas than anyone would have imagined or accepted as possible while I was younger. Caister is not unique for this - it has moved with the times, but at what cost ?

  • @roywestley3178
    @roywestley3178 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    During the 80s we always went to Caister beach holiday park. Me and my brother would play long jump off the sea wall onto the sand. I'm sure there used to be a layer of shingle between the sea wall and the sea. After my parents got a touring caravan we would stay at the old hall caravan site. Which is now Lidls.

    Another great nostalgic viewing. I went to caister middle and high school and can remember doing cross country along that beach. Being closely watched by the PE teacher Mr Simms making sure we didn't cheat. We did though, cutting across the dunes halfway through and then rejoining the back of the group as they made their way back. I worked at the haven caravan site when I was 15 in 1993. Selling ice creams and candy floss from a stall near the football area behind the dining area.
    Caister Lifeboat men are a national treasure, i was at the unveiling of the ship launch for the original Bernard Matthew, it was launched by hrh Princess Alexandra. I think I'd done some sort of sponsored something or other to raise funds for the new boat. Hope you can do another video of the village sometime, do you remember the name of the shop thats now the coop opposite Braddocks? Memories of buying sweets in there after school and renting the latest blockbuster movie on vhs.

    Nice gentle amber around some of these lovely places. '' Walk With Me Tim' Did you get your Idea for your title from the film The Lake House ? There is a scene in the film where Keanu Reeves takes Sandra Bullock on a walking tour of his favourite places in Chicago via maps and letters. Before starting of he says '' Walk with me ''.

    There was a railway from Yarmouth, through Caistor to Newport, closed in 50s and dismantled in 70s, vaguely remember it ( under 10 in 70s) did it run along the path you were walking ???

      I lived in Caister from 1958 to about 1999 so spent many childhood days on the beach in the summer and winter. We lived backed on to the golf course so we cut a hole in the fence and could then get to the beach and dunes in a couple of minutes (dead opposite the 1 mile start on the race course). Caister had 3 stations I believe if you include Caister Halt. It was a very busy line, M&GN I think as it linked Yarmouth with the Midlands. When I was quite little we used to catch the train to Hemsby where my Nan and Grandad lived. I think back in the '60's Caister had a population of about 2000 but probabaly at least 4 times that now. Every summer holiday from school seemed sunny in those days and my mum used to let us just wander off so long as we came back in time for tea!. It holds very nice memories for me so this was a nice little video to watch. Cheers!
      PS In 1963 (?) the sea froze over by the shore; it was a very cold winter, ha ha!
