Marc Almond has such a good voice, he's so underrated. I think this was their best song. He looks cool, timeless 🌠

For me, coming out of rock hair bands of the late 70's, this was the first "new wave" song I recall hearing. It was the first song that was completely different than anything else I had heard and will always be associated with one of the greatest periods of my life!
You do know Gloria Jones was the original artist, early 1960s. Soft Cell's arrangement is SOOOOO GOOD!

They have never been regarded as one hit wonders in the UK as they had a number of hits as Soft Cell and then Marc carried on with some stunning hits in the days of pearly Spencer years.

@@ianmediumBad management choices… He was gaining real traction in the US, but his manager cancelled several tour dates in the early 90s, allegedly due to the Los Angeles riots (which was complete bullshit since they ended 3 months before the dates & were cancelled days before scheduled), but I believe it was to prepare for the huge live event in London that was televised… After the LA shows were cancelled, he didn’t get any real radio time, which back then was crucial.
'Don't touch me please I cannot stand the pain...' Great line in a great song. And Marc Almond, what a voice. Clear and clean. No vibrato. Timeless.

One of my all time favorites. We had such great music back then.
This iconic song smashed the dance clubs in the early ‘80s. Night club in Newquay in 1982 opened every night with this hit. Best vacation I ever had.
Tainted Love was written in the 1960's and performed by Black American singer, Gloria Jones who would later become Marc Bolan's girlfriend. Gloria's original version of Tainted Love was published on a B side in the States where it was "discovered" in the early 70s by Northern Soul DJ Richard Searling. Its stomping Motownesque backbeat and production made it a firm favourite in Northern clubs throughout the 70s. Fast forward...it was at a party held in a Leeds nightclub, celebrating Paul Young's birthday when, DJ Ian Dewhirst, played Tainted Love, as Paul Young is partial to a bit of 'Northern'. And this is when the nightclub's cloakroom manager, Marc Almond, would first hear Tainted Love. Marc badgered Ian Dewhirst for a copy and within weeks had produced the Soft Cell version and the rest as they say is history.

It was common for talk shows to have lip synced performances because they didn’t have the equipment (at the time very expensive) for an authentic live performance. Everyone knew this at the time they weren’t trying to fool anyone.
