my school requires me to watch this. I saw the channel and sighed, cuz the rest of my day is gone, and I'm gonna get addicted to tedx talks again

This was an amazing video. I watched this several times before prepping for a presentation on this same question, and it was a big factor in my getting the job. Thank you, Arnon.

Thank you so much Arnon for this. I watched this multiple times and I love that your true passion is developing talent on your team, which isn't something every leader cares about.

Notes on this Talk for a Quick Reference
Ted Talk- 0-90 in 18 minutes: The First 90 Days Arnon Kraft
1985- Innovation- Back to the future comes out - “Take On Me”
First cartoon and live action music video
    Being new can be hard
2011- 3 things to consider with starting again- Leaving
means having to re-establish who you are (Reputation), figuring out how to be
successful (Commitments & Purpose) and what is cool, acceptable, and will
make me fit in (Corporate or Team Culture).
Wrong Ways people react to being the “New Guy”
    1) Hide and seek- people who come in and shake
hands but then disappear 2) I’m Still New…- You can only be new for so long3) Nostalgic- "In my previous team..." people, people
who are stuck in their old position4) Superheroes- annoying, they know the right
answer even though they don’t know anything yet
    Cheat Sheet to Starting Out
1st 30 days- Listen and Observe: Find
out who is who and what they do. How everything works in the company as a whole,
procedures and rules.1st 60 days- Understand: Use what you’ve
learned to figure out the background reason behind how things are done1st 90 days- Create-Add Value: Solve
some small problems that you have noticed and that you feel you now understand
    to solve
    Tips:
Find a mentor- you don’t have to do this
yourself. Make friends.Reputation is built over time1st you establish your credibility-
do what you say you will do (Follow-through)2nd you earn their respect- show
respect and act in a respectful way3rd you earn their trust- don’t get
involved in gossip or politics. If someone tells you something in confidence-
keep that confidence. 4th you gain inclusion- people will
feel you are trustworthy and start to talk in front of you. They will include
you in meetings and conversations.5th you gain influence- people will
ask your opinion on things allowing you to help them make decisions.6th you have the power to make an
impact- people will trust you to make decisions and implement plans. Push yourself to stay out of your comfort zone.
Be flexible. Take deep breathesGround yourself- use gravity Give of your time and attention (Commitment to
better and advancement)Your careers are a marathon- Pace Yourself- the
1st 90 days happen over and over even within the same job- every time
you meet new people, start a new project, join a new team etc.

12:47 How do I know that peer has my interest in mind? What if they deceive me?

    • @arnonkraft2666
      @arnonkraft2666 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's a fair question Hamed, I guess you don't. At least not at first but I also trust that you are a good judge of character and can tell when someone has your best interest in mind or don't. And if that person didn't - then at least you know who to stay away from going forward. I also have to say that from my experience it is true that sometimes people's advice wont be in your best interest, but it is seldom that people will try to specifically deceive you.

3:19 I wouldn't put it like that. It's more like swimming with sharks for 90 days just to see if you're not careful and accidentally hit something underwater and bleed.
