Really cool tutorial! I have my friend in Montreal who is an incredible harmonica player and a U-blocker! When I discovered him year ago, I realize that U-block is just another technique who can play anything, like lip pursing or tongue blocking. Often the bigger limitation is in the mind. Thanks for that great moment! 🤜 🤛
Youre right on about how to learn. There are tons of videos that try to teach a person the magic "techique." If there was one, there wouldn't be a ton of videos, and everybody could do it. You show the principles to work on, then its up to the person to find what works. Great video!
I'm a U-blocker too, for over 60 years, because I had a hard time tongue blocking when I started out, and U-blocking came naturally. I can tongue-block now and I use it on occasion. Thanks for the lesson.
It’s will too. I learned it in my work truck at nite. It didn’t happen over nite either. I experimented with reed adjustment but like you say, content with out of the box results. I like your insight. I tried the Ublock but was completely flummoxed.
Great! I been struggling and got and some times got cramps in my lips. I’m also started playing with U-Block now I do all but mainly U hole 1-3. Thanks! now I’m getting closer to overblow with U To get tighter response a also put a thin layer of white vaselin between the reedplate and the comb on my hohner crossover Cheers mate from Luleå Sweden
Your great at explaining it in your own way like I will go too other tutorial videos but they explain it in such a clear but hah I don't know haha, but like for example "Imagine how Blind Willy Johnson sings you know how he has that real raspy voice" and do it through the back of your throat, love it!
Just found your channel. You are very impressive. How long have you been playing? Jason Ricci videos only? Do you play pretty much all day? I'm just trying to figure out what I might be missing all these years. lol
Been playing for about 2 and a half years and yeah this last year and a half when I started taking it more seriously I've been only watching and studying Jason Ricci. When I was back at home that's what I did all day everyday so probably around 8 to 10 hours a day.
Sorry I most likely explained it badly. It's coming from your throat. Try to make a straining noise while breathing out and it's kinda like that but you still want to be relaxed the whole time and not actually strain😂 If you're still confused hit me up on Insta and I'll send you a short video on how I do it!
I don't recommend starting on a cheap instrument if you're serious on learning. You'll end up fighting the instrument and it makes learning harder than it should be which may make people end up quitting. That is like trying to learn guitar on a toy guitar with plastic strings
I agree. I don't remember exactly what I said but I was probably trying to say you don't need a $80+ Harmonica to OB but just a normal special 20 or even an Easttop or Kongsheng Ting Harp. Because it will definitely be possible on these $25 dollar ones as well! But below that $25 mark I really don't suggest anything if you understand what I was trying to say there.
That definitely could be the case. I don't have a good ear to tell myself but I do still struggle with all of the 3 bends. I think it's the fact I'm doing small adjustments with my throat to bend which makes it harder to get those clean crisp bends and overblows. Maybe if I hold a bend note I should switch to lip pursing? I'm not too sure let me know what you think.
@@KyrenHarmonica try to compensate that with vibrato, it can hide the pitch issues it on bend notes. But the best way is to work with a tuner or another instrument to corect the pitch.

Haha the U-Blocking can definitely feel weird if you never done it before 🤣

Hey buddy ! Hope your show went well 🎉
Thank you it did!
yessssssss m8 I got it at last !!!!!
Nice! I'm glad the video helped!
What kind of harmonica do you have?
In this video I'm using a JDR Assassin. But I usually use a Special 20 in my videos.
The best way to play an overblow is to know how it should sound and they you tell the harp that note 😆😁
Hahaha best tip I've heard yet 😂
Did I miss something about what to do to get the over blow hole 6? Was it the tongue, lips or what...

Thank you! I hope the video helped!

From what i can hear it is hard to play in pitch with U-blocking, i don`t know maybe it is just me hearing it
that is for bend notes and overblows

Cool thanks for the advice I'll definitely try that!
