Kyren Harmonica
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 มิ.ย. 2023
My name is James Kyren Allen I am a Blues Man trying to make it to the top.
Formally known as James Bellowin
My play style is a lot more modern and fast paced similar to the Great Jason Ricci! But that doesn't mean I like to slow it down and feel the blues as well!

There is very little info on U-Blocking on TH-cam and when there is most of the time it is negative so I made this video to shine some light on the GREAT EMBOUCHURE U-BLOCKING and the advantages it can have! This is just a simple 12 bar Solo. I've been trying to work on my creativity and improvisation during my solos because I feel like I keep doing the same things over and over again. I tried using the Major Pentatonic Scale a little more in this one but I went back to the Minor at some point. If anyone has any pointers or tips please let me know trying to get better everyday!

I’m thankful for you too Kyren!❤
We are so proud of you Ky! We have loved watching you play b-ball for the last 15 years. I say you've put in your time. We're excited to watch you grow in this new adventure with the harmonica. Keep it up, you are amazing! Love you ❤
дякую тобі! дякую Богу за тебе!
Thank you Dre! I love you bro!!!
We miss you Ky and wish you were home today for Thanksgiving. We'll see you at your game in WY tomorrow!
See y'all there!
I’ve been trying to learn that funky chord thing from Jason after I saw your video of it. I’ve gotten to 1:15 or so just before he goes down from 6ob, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how he goes down ik it’s not just a straight run cause he does 2 little flourishes while descending. The last 30 seconds look like the hardest part lots of chromatic stuff with little flourishes to emphasise the beat. If you’ve got any advice on how to learn it that would be great. I’m already slowing it down to 0.5.
The last 30 seconds is definitely the hardest part he does a lot of overblows, glissandos and just fast articulations. The flourishes I think you're talking about are both glissandos on holes 5-6 and then 4-5 (draw). So after he does that descending pedal point lick 6d 6d' 6d 8d 6d 6d 7od 6d 6d 7d 6d 6d 7b 6ob 6d' 6d 6b 6d 6ob 6d' 6d 5d (Descending Pedal Lick) After that he gets to the part I think you're stuck on so basically he does 6b 5ob (5d 6d 5d) fast gliss 5b 5d (4d 5d 4d) fast gliss 4b 4d 4d' 4b 5d 5d 6b And after that he starts on that 2 draw and does all the other confusing stuff 😂 I was stuck in that part because of the 5-6 gliss because he doesn't do that too often. And I hope this helps and if it doesn't hit me up on Insta or Facebook and I can show you on video
LOL you a lie
😂
I am new to harmonica and really enjoy your videos. Looking forward to seeing you follow what has become your passion. Good stuff!!
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying!
I’ve been loving the harp vlogs man! Happy thanksgiving 🦃🍽 Bro once you decide that’s what you wanna do the universe will open up to help you! I think you should chase that dream, give it all you got. Cheers 🥂
Thank you man! And stay positive brother! Hit me up whenever!!!
Tony Stephens here Kyren. Have a great Thanksgiving and thank you for talking harmonica with me. Thanks for your help with u block bending. I truly believe you are going places with the harmonica. Keep the videos coming here on TH-cam. I will be watching.
What's up! Thank you for the kind words and I love to help! I like to act like I know what I'm doing but I really don't know anything 😂
@ you know how to help people. With what I see and hear you do with u blocking you just might be second in line to Norton Buffalo.
I like your videos. You can put some tape on the jaws of the pliers and it will help with keeping the covers from getting scratched.
Thank you that's smart I'm definitely gonna do that next time!
Black sabbath
It’s will too. I learned it in my work truck at nite. It didn’t happen over nite either. I experimented with reed adjustment but like you say, content with out of the box results. I like your insight. I tried the Ublock but was completely flummoxed.
Haha the U-Blocking can definitely feel weird if you never done it before 🤣
Great vlog man! Congratulations on all the musical achievements, your doing great! Now I gotta find that Funky Biscuit video 😅🙌
I got it in the link of the video
@KyrenHarmonica Yeah, I seen that thanks 🙏 It is an awesome show!
@@KyrenHarmonica By the way cool chromatic, I have 2 Chrometta's and I think they are great as a 1st chromatic. There is better out there I guess and I want one, but to get down the basics and know if you want to keep playing a chromatic they work! Good luck with it 😎🎶🙌
I've been having a lot of fun with it for sure!
Nice bro 👍
Memphis! The Mecca! Sweet! Congrats!
Thank you!
This is awesome man. If you dont mind, how did you get into harmonica and where did you learn? Like what was the person or video or thing that helped you the most? Keep it up man!
I got into the Harmonica just randomly one day I bought a toy one as a joke but then after a while of messing with it I fell in love with it. I started with videos from Tomlin and Liam but after I got more comfortable with the instrument I started watching Jason Ricci videos and that's where I learned everything I know
@@KyrenHarmonica Thanks so much for replying, I look forward to following your journey! I'm just getting started and you're definitely an inspiration.
Great video! Great playing. I’m u-blocker for almost 20 years. Never had problems with that. BTW Mark Ford and John Nemeth are u-blockers too. Joe Lee Bush once told that Little Walter was u-blocker too. He showed it to him in the 50s.
Wow that's pretty cool! I heard of that before about Little Walter but I wasn't sure if it was true or not
how long have you been playing? this is incredible
@@ate_a_radio Thank you! Been playing for around 2 and a half years
Do you u block while bending the 1 hole, cause im a tounge blocker and I realised that its basicaly impossible to get anything decent sounding out of the 1 hole bend just tounge blocking. I have to open my mouth cavity and lip purse it to get a nice deep sounding tone. Id imagine u blocking and tounge blocking are similar in regards to not having a big enough mouth cavity to get good tone one the 1 hole bend.
That definitely could be the reason why I'm gonna try to practice lip pursing and see how it works. It's a pretty hard hole to get in general and I don't see myself really using it that much but it would be good to have if I ever do use it.
I feel like hole 1 and 10 are tricky no matter what embouchure you use because they're at the end of the harp
@@bilbowaggins3036 very true
I was looking into that octave pedal that jason uses the pitch fork and it turns out it doesnt have true bypass, im not 100% sure what that means but from what ive gathered it the signal cant be set to completely skip the pedal it will have some interferance. You need to have some other stuff to make it true bypass, but there are other ocatave pedals that are true bypass one ive seen used in a video is the sub'n'up. The main differance is the one jason uses can be used to not only add an octave but change the added part from an octave to a 5th or 6th and so on. Didnt end up buying either as I decided its best to just work on my playing as it is without adding extra atleast for now.
Wow thank you for this information! I didn't know anything about that I'm going to have to look into it more and do more research thank you for the comment.
Wish id started at your age. What can I say in the great words of Rick James cocaine is a hell of a drug! Don't do it!!!!
@@danwilliams8695 alright I won't!!! 😂
My man. I need to get faster
@@jamesgui3733 I'll definitely make a video on that!
Please do a video tutorial of the harmonica parts in “Don’t get me killed” by Marc Ford. That would be cool.

what is harmonica for you right now?
Do you mean what Harmonica works best for me or what does the Harmonica mean to me?
@@KyrenHarmonica what does it mean to you like basketball or anything else? What are your motifs for learning it
@@littledrehe said he grew up listening to blues
@@littledre I'd say that the Harmonica is my true passion and it's something that I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to be the best player I can become not for others but for myself and I want to inspire people just like how Jason inspired me so much that it changed my life forever.
@@KyrenHarmonica Those are very wise thoughts for someone your age. I’m impressed. 👊
Watched the whole thing! Good stuff, I am a beginner so I appreciate the inspiration.
Thank you for watching! You have a great journey ahead!
Don't give up your day time jobs. Blues is a sum of a lot of parts. Typical amateur band there is no story line of structure going anywhere. By modern day standards it is very poor. It is 2024. Learning blues isn't just notes it is about understanding life. This lot act as as if they have never seen Wolf in action. There is an answer right there but it is beyond their reasoning.
I'm not too sure what you're trying to say here sorry. But I do understand that these days people focus more on the notes than the feeling or story.

Great stuff, I saw your video on Facebook before and it motivated me to try learn it. Im not even past that epic 3 hole lick in the beginning.
That's awesome! It's definitely a difficult one to learn especially when he starts playing chromatically in the middle octave 😂
