Hey Matt, ever try to rig the TRD first, then leave the Silkie back on the bend of the jig hook? That way the flair of the silk would happen more off the bottom where it would be more visible.
Them little details and unique lures sometimes make a big difference, especialy on pressured fish, again a great piece of advice there Matt! I keep my jig trimmings and poke them through on swimbaits and sometimes ned rigs, making fin-like appendages. It bulks up the presentation from the top or bottom view. Slows the fall of the bait too if you put more than a couple strands in!
Just wanted to say . Your page is without a doubt the best as far as real info . Not one of the many copy cats that see something and hurry up and post it as their idea , you see that in bunches all the time .
It's like a super finess-y version of the old Chompers. I love finding unorthodox ideas from other types of fishing to use for bass. Thanks for a GREAT suggestion!
I do a lot of buying my open water baits during the winter months to stock up my inventory! I like your idea and will try it. You need a test tank in your tackle room! I use silicone jig and spinnerbait skirt strips to dress mine up!
Wonderful stuff!!!!! I love modifying finesse baits!! Here’s 1 to try Matt…once rigged, pierce the tip of the Zman TRD with a nail or anything you can. Then run a Zonker strip thru the hole you just made. It gives a very fluid motion and new look to Ned.
I absolutely love this idea thank you so much I can make finesse jigs out of my head now I've been trying other ways and haven't come up with the viable idea this is gold truly thank you!
The little things somehow always make a big difference! This is similar to the modification that you did awhile ago with the bobber stops and the small willowleaf blade setup that you shared before, it justs adds some more to it just enough to make a difference. I bet that if this bobber stop and willowleaf blade combo is added to a swimbait using one of your core tackle rigs would be a good setup to try, just a thought. Thanks Matt for sharing this with us!!
Ok, this is a must for me. I have been wanting to tinker with the various Ned skirts but this one really looks like a fun one! Perhaps even on a rear treble if you can get it over the eyelet?
Im not the biggest user of a ned rig because we have so much timber on Toledo and Rayburn but I've actually trimmed up a punch skirt and done this exact thing. Im on a time share up in Hot Springs Arkansas on Lake Hamilton and I go every year but thats really the only time i throw a ned rig but i got the idea from a local throwing a ned rig and the plastic had little tentacles... i didt have any of those but ive got a bunch of punch skirts. Youre probably not going to get the exact same effect as this but punch skirts are probably easier to find for us down here... LOL Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
I bought a pack of Silkies last winter, but hurt my back and really didn't get much of a chance to use them. Never would have thought to use them in this way. I'll give it a shot.
Hello Matt, Thanks for your informational videos. You show some good tips. Just watched your participation in Todd's podcast. Your views seem to be right on target. I just hope you are not looked on in a negative way when you go to BPT. I think you will be among the best out there. Good fishing and tight lines.
Matt, I also watched the podcast and it was very plain to see you are an innovator, motivated, are very intelligent, adaptable, and you love what you do. You do a great job representing your trade. You should be proud. I wish the best for you!!
Thanks for the tips Matt. I really enjoy the content of your videos. I have a question. When fishing a lay down, do you start on the outside of the tree and work you way back toward the bank or vice versa?

Yes they do
I'm glad you're a tackle junkie, bringing us these new ideas that you have had success with, cool video, thanks!🎣👍
Awesome!
You are absolutely the tackle tinkerer. Cool, little accent to the Ned rig. Thanks for sharing.

Cannot argue with this comment at all. Made me a much better angler here in South Africa.

Glad you like it!
Zman TRD with football jig 1/2oz maybe 3/8oz football jig does work for me in Southern Ontario. I've caught bunch +20 inch bass with this combo.
Awesome
Nice hack. I bet it works well on the chain. Kinda reminds me of the Dan Gapen ugly bug. But different and probably better
give it a try!
Matt, once again, your tips are 💯 appreciated and work great for a fantastic modification of the Ned rigs,or dropshot😎 Thanks 🙏 so much 🍀🎣🍀
Glad to help!

Go for it!
🍺Thanks Matt🤠.
Thanks for the support!
Bass pro carries them
Thanks for the tip Matt! Def gonna pick a few colors up.
You bet
Decoy has little silicone stoppers. I wonder if you can thread a few strands of jig skirt material on a Ned hook.
Maybe
I like it! 👍
Use a bobbin threader
Awesome tip Matt! This is one the better lure modifications I've seen in a long time.
Glad it was helpful!
The chartreuse and white on a acme tackle size 3 glow mick-e jig was the go to crappie jig last winter. No meat needed.
Awesome
Wonderful stuff!!!!!
I love modifying finesse
baits!!

Nice little hack, thanks for sharing Matt

Looks great!!! Hopefully I can find the trailers & make some jigs for next season!!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
Good luck!
I just hand tie some rubber or silicone from a jig skirt to the head of a Ned rig jig. Works great.
Thanks for sharing

Never thought of using a silkie for a Ned rig. That’s a clever idea!
It works

Those are sweet, great tip thanks Matt
You bet!
Thankfully no ice fishing here in southern SC. I don't have any silkys & have never seen them either. Great idea though. Super finness jig
Thanks for watching!
Great tip matt I'm definitely going to use this technique on my ned rigs thanks
You bet!
I bought a pack of Silkies last winter, but hurt my back and really didn't get much of a chance to use them. Never would have thought to use them in this way. I'll give it a shot.

You're giving away all my secrets, Matt. I've been making Ned heads with rabbit fur and marabou collars for 4 years now.
sorry
@MattStefanFishing just giving you a hard time, there's no secrets in bass fishing anymore. If you want I can send you some photos of what I make.
This is why I've traveling to hard water places. I get to buy items we don't have here in Cali!
Awesome!
I learned that years ago in Escanaba and I use it down here in Eufaula now.but anyway thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
Matt, great tip! Thanks for sharing. I will have to try this out. What do you think about adding rattles to ned worms?
I don’t do it much but it can work in some situations

good video suggestion and depends on the setup
Good one
Thanks
You had me at "ned rig."
Nice!
I use the old living rubber skirts off of a spinnerbait
sounds good
👍 nice!
Thanks! 👍
Deadly by itself on a dropshot when they’ve got lockjaw during spawn and on a inchi wacky hook
Nice!
Fire
Works great!
Love the idea but did I see right, $6.99 for one of these tiny skirt/trailers? Might have to see if I can make one DIY first.
It’s a pack of multiple skirts
That's pretty nifty if I may say so myself
Yep
Get some 40 lb. or higher solar colored Big Game mono...cut short lengths & stick them in...little "chartreuse" can never hurt
thanks for sharing
But did I say skirts and bulk attract big fish? I need to get on the Tube to do a mauling of my own.
make a video
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
All I heard was "37 pieces of Flair" from office space!
hahahahahaha one of my favorite movies
Fish USA has them $6.99 for a 4 pack.
I put a link in the video description to some at scheels
That's not a Hack but a Hackle. Great idea though.
Haha
