My sister has a ring almost identical. She worked as a administrator at a retirement home for the rich in Los Angeles, California. She found the ring close to her office. She kept the ring in a safe for 6 months as required by law. No one ever claimed the ring so my sister got to keep it. My sister always thought it was a cubic zirconia until two years later she had it appraised. It turned out to be a near flawless 4 carat total diamond ring. The appraisal was $40,000. It’s been 20 years so I’m sure the ring is far more valuable.

I have a friend who insured her jewelry for a couple of years but then then the cost was so ridiculous -- she found great places to hide it. It’s been about over 40 years now of clever ways to hide a significant amount of expensive jewelry. Just make sure that you tell someone you trust where it is in case you drop dead otherwise it could end up in the garbage or somewhere where no one would think to look. Just saying.

The ring looks like my mother's solitaire, only hers was much smaller at a carat and a half, flawless setting on platinum. It has much better clarity than this diamond seems to have. It is like looking through glass. I have that ring now.

“You’re mother was smart, she kept the paperwork “. I’m thinking her mother was a whole lot smarter than that. Meets a guy and 2 weeks later gets a 5 carat diamond and platinum ring, only stays married to the idiot/serial marriage guy for a few months and walks away with a $100K ring.

Notice how relaxed they are that the transfer of wealth in even a brief marriage is from man to woman - and I bet they'd describe themselves as feminists. It's the same thinking that makes the shift back and forth between 'I am woman, hear me roar' and 'women need to be protected' so easy and seamless. Feminism might as well have been designed for perpetuating the stereotype that women's thinking is unprincipled egotism.

Sure she did but if she wanted the money she would have sold the ring and had spent it. So we don’t know the circumstances and I don’t think it’s all that fair to make assumptions like that. It sounds like her mother passed away and kept the ring the whole time so I’d wonder if it also had sentimental value to her.

*Put it in a coffee-cup w/hot water and 'OxyClean' crystals, and it WILL 'Sparkle' like 'fresh from the box'*
*The bonus being is it's cheap, cannot damage anything, and the ring is never out of your control*
*YOU CAN'T TRUST a lot of jewelers, because many will 'swap-out' for a stone that 'looks the same' until a loupe is used
and then find the diamond has far more imperfections than the original stone , and you can't prove a switch took place*
