Also, may want to consider purchasing an inexpensive OBD sensor reader... would indicate what the check engine light issue is. Can give you a bit of piece of mind, lol.

If you are that afraid of breaking something then do it outside of a mechanic shop and if you break or can’t fix it. Have them tow it into the shop and they fix what you broke. You’ll be surprised at what you can do and build your confidence to fix things on your own. That’s what I do. I have learned quite a bit. Sometimes they let me watch and if it happens again. I can fix it myself next time.

You should invest in an OBD II reader. I got FIXD. Cheaper and works great. Let’s you know what is wrong with the engine so the service tech can’t BS you! I had an issue and the told me it would be $1500 to fix a oil coolant sensor or something like that. My ODB II said the code was and oxygen sensor and was hardly nothing in cost to replace. I told him about what my odb II said and he was back pedaling. I told him I don’t trust him or the business and was loud about it. The manager came over to inquire what was happening. I told him and then left. I haven’t been back. I found an honest mechanic shop and use them all the time. It is a great tool to have when you aren’t mechanically inclined like me.

I don't understand why people freaks out when a check engine light comes on it could be nothing as long as your vehicle is running fine and that check engine light is not blinking on and off you really have nothing to worry about you don't have to stop your vehicle you can drive it I drive my car every day with a check engine light on it

    • @KimannChessa

    Hi Kim,
Been falling behind on my video watching and commenting lately. Strange to have a catalytic converter go in trouble, one issue I find these days is so many sensors , monitoring so many points and often its the sensors that that's the problem. It's also difficult to troubleshoot without connecting to a computer to read the codes.
That looks like a excellent fan have to check those out,
I had a company chev fan once that had issues with the throttle body mechanism stucking , had it in the garage a thousand times , then finally a co worker saw the problem and knew the fix and took it back to the garage and was nothing more than a cleaning and greasing to repair
Rodents is another problem as they like to get at wirings that feed al those sesors i mentioned lol
Glad that mechanic was accommodating, I'd get a second opinion on it at the dealer ....might be a sensor not the actual unit.
Hope you have an awesome week.

What the heck is a throttle body?!? You crack me up. Yeah, I'd be finding a mechanic too; I can't do anything mechanical. Surprised I can change a lightbulb. Funny how excited you are to be going to see a mechanic. Thanks for being so real. But turns out it's your catalytic converter? No way! How many miles do you have? Those things cost a fortune. In 2017, I had a Nissan Pathfinder with, like, 150,000 miles; and turns out it has two Cats that supposedly were both bad. I called all over the place, and would have cost me $25000, so I sold it to CarMax and got another car. It's a scam! I guess that's why bad guys are stealing them. And no apologies for your tethered dogs; they live a fine life. Will there be a Part 2 at the Grand Canyon? Lastly, did you go through Kanab, UT? Just below Zion. I love that little town; it's like a mini Sedona. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is there too. Definitely worth a visit.

    • @KimannChessa

I have to go to Kanab on my next trip! I would love to go to the animal sanctuary. I should be going back out West in late Fall. Thanks for the tip! I have 170,000 miles on the truck. It's funny that I had the code read four times, and the mechanic tells me it is something different each time! I don't think it was the catalytic converter, but I'm unsure. I had a few spark plugs that were misfiring. So, I replaced all the plugs and wires, and the truck is running great with no check engine light on.

Cadillac converter should have a 5 year federal warranty, if it goes out in 5 years it gets replaced for free at any Ford Dealer. I found that law out when I went to have one changed before. Thank God it was free. That's on any car truck unless they removed that law.

A mechanic might take a couple of hours to replace the catalytic converter. You shouldn't have to pay more than $2500 if they're not exploiting your situation. $tay away from dealerships to save money on auto repairs. Search for an independent mechanic/auto repair service. Original manufacturer parts are preferred when possible. Good luck!

This is why I have older vehicles that don't tell me when they want something. Cat Converters are a huge scam in the first place, And it's all about money for the state. My Cat in my 1997 Vord Van cost me about $465 plus $200 installation. And the only reason I changed it was because I had the motor rebuilt and this one had 307,000 miles on it so it was time. Yes you do lose some power when they get clogged but you pretty much have to blow up your motor and let a bunch of oil pass through before you begin to lose power. Otherwise it's just a sensor saying that the cat is not doing it's job to clean the air as well as it was designed to. Tell me about that after following a diesel truck around for a while. Love your content. You are amazing looing. With a grand baby? How the heck do you do that?

Catalytic converters just don't fail for no reason it's usually because you're engine is running rich too much fuel which could be caused by a bad computer among other things so the advice the mechanic gave you is not really accurate that a aftermarket catalytic converter would last only one year! Things such as oil contamination will destroy a catalytic converter quickly! Oil and excessive fuel mixture are the only things that can contaminate and ruin a catalytic converter so you need to address the cause before replacing it
