AE86 - The Little Things, Chasing Perfection

  • This video was shot over 3-4 months. I'm taking the first of many steps to ensure my AE86 is every bit as clean and refined as it can be, within my ability and budget. When you finish a project car, many just focus on the fact that it is in a drive-able state, but there is often a lot of issues left to resolve in most cases. The goal here is to make my Corolla as nice to drive on a daily basis as possible, this means it must remain quiet and well mannered on the streets, while still being fun and chuckable in the corners. I have a lot of creature-comforts I want to add to the car, I've been thinking about how to revive this channel for a long time and I think this could be a good way to do it.

ngl, my 86 has been sitting for the past 2 weeks since the alternator & diff pinion seal went at the same time, but this video actually has me motivated enough to deal with the little mundane maintenance I've been putting off since the parts showed up.

Dang man I had a red kouki hatch back in like 2003. Loved that car it was nearly as clean as yours. Had to sell it becaise I got orders to japan. I cried the day it sold. I can tell you cherish yours just as much from the care you are taking.
Ha! I seized an s13 rear caliper doing the same thing lol
Ohhhh I also did a speaker upgrade! I had Polk audio and a hidden FM modulated cd changer in the glove box. Looked fully stock but loud enough to hear the eurobeat over the hks exhaust.
Anyway beautiful corolla man. Keep her forever.

Tack weld the steering column where it overlaps. I'm not sure that the gasket maker will hold up. This is a common issue on 3rd gen 4runners. I put two nice tacks on my column. A couple of years later and a few hundred miles of trails and its held up real nice.

I was going to replace my seats with aw11 seats, but then when i bolted down the seats I found out i don't fit. reacaos seem to be low enough i was just curious on how you mounted them and if you have headroom. keep up the great work Love all of the 86s you've built and im waiting to see what you do to the ls400!

Anyway it fit great I could wear my helmet plenty of room (no sunroof woo) but I had my dad machine me a 5 inch steering wheel spacer so I didnt have to reach as far to have my arms at a natural droop to grasp the wheel.

Combined with a master cylinder brace those were the best friggin brakes I ever had and that was oem calipers.
Pro tip: project mu rotors are daimond dust impregnated to dissipate heat even better. Best brakes I EVER had.
