Thanks Noms, can't tell how good it felt, all of it, seeing them for the first time, the chaos that was the first hour or so. At one point I was stood in the water unable to move cause there's tons of them crawling right by my feet whilst I've got a cray between each finger on my left hand, desperately trying to control the two in my right so I can grab the other one I've seen coming. Had a total of 3 claws clamped on one had at one point 😂 it was madness
I used to catch crayfish by the 100s in the 70s. But was told that the American non native species needs a licence to catch it. When we caught them we left them in the bath overnight to clear the guts then froze them, once dead cooked them. They were fantastic.

Nice haul! The big ones are about average around here though the smaller ones I actually prefer as they are a bit softer, bit sweeter. Ice bath to stop them cooking is definitely the way! Those shells hold so much heat they just keep cooking! Didn´t see how you cooked them though? Just salt or a few herbs and chilli in the water? Also, I have to put them in a freezer for a couple of hours before cooking, my missus thinks its more humane 🙂
Thanks, I was super happy with the feed I got. For this boil I added salt, 2 lemons and a whole jar of Chinese 5 spice. The ice bath made a massive difference, there was no bitter after taste, the meat was really sweet
Some nice looking crays there bro. I must say though, you're a braver man than I am. I wouldn't eat fk all out of UK rivers. 😅 Edit: Forgot to say, I've kept crabs and crays as pets for years and crays are not territorial per se, but they do fight to establish a dominance hierarchy. Male crabs on the other hand, will fight to the death over territory.
@DemonicAngel-g2s thanks mate, I'd agree with you on the rivers front but I'm confident in the clarity of the water in that small river. Put it this way, I've been eating em for years and I'm not dead (touch wood). Interesting point you make, I've seen some things that may contradict that but I'm not sure, maybe a little on site study is in order 🤔
@@1DreadedAngel To be fair, it may be dependent on species. The crays I've kept are not the American signal crays you're catching here. They are a species called Panulirius Versicolor (aka blue lobster), and so long as the tank is large enough, they're generally ok in small groups, bar the odd scuffle. Though that can vary from individual to individual lol. Signal crays are somewhat more aggressive as a species to my understanding. So you may well be right, they could be much more territorial. In any case, I enjoyed the vid and am glad you're not dead from eating them (touch wood). 😂 Dropped a like and sub bro.
I do yes, they are dispatched by the river to remain within the law, then once home they are scrubbed and the poop tube is removed. I just don't show that process, if you want to see it, check out my first vids where I walk you through it 😊

If you catch and remove the large signals, which eat a lot of juvenile signals, all you do is create more signals. I think it’s very unlikely the EA would find your actions acceptable and your video could be used as evidence
