- Hermann A. Wollenhaupt (1827-1863) was a German pianist and composer from the Romantic Era. He was born in Leipzig, but moved to the United States in 1845 at the age of 18 to start a performing and teaching career in New York, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Wollenhaupt is best remembered for writing many salon-style pieces, including this set of 5 Morceaux Caractéristiques en forme d’Études, Op. 22.
