Persol has been my go-to brand since I’ve been able to afford them; they were my first “nice” pair, and hadn’t I lost them, they would’ve lasted forever. I have one pair from 2008 that’s just experiencing minor haze in the acetate frame, but are otherwise flawless. Another from around 2011, still new-looking, and one from 2019 that’s been dropped in the ocean and hasn’t a speck of anything on it. I’ve had everything from Tom Ford to Oliver Peoples and even some nice Japanese ones, but Persol is by far the highest quality premium sunglass I’ve ever experienced. The look isn’t for everyone, but I’m a sucker for anything 1960s/70s, so almost everything they make in resin looks nice to me.
@@attilab.2818 Yes. The Oliver Peoples frames I owned (both acetate), began to haze and to dull within two years or so. The lenses were fine, but one of them was a clear honey color and looked gross and not really wearable. The embossed printed information of the interior temple on them also began to rub off even with optical spray cleaner. None of that has happened to either of the persol glasses I’ve owned
It's funny you say this. I went into a Sunglass Hut to try on some Wayfarer IIs and they just happened to have some 9649Ss sitting there as well. I tried on both and had the exact same thought.
Great job. About time someone notified the world of this particular flaw before throwing money away. How long will it take Persol to realise and address the situation. They have been making this model for years. Enough now.
I had persol typewriter and the "connecting metal bridge broke after 2 years. No one was willing to fix it until I took the matters on my hands and I made it last another year.
The best sunglasses brand I’ve owned. The persol titanium sunglasses are my everyday choice, they look elegant, feel light and the lenses are the best in the business.
One more flaw of persol sunglasses is that, a few of their models don't fold neatly. Especially the 649. The temples tend to stick out and that I believe is a design flaw. But as you rightly pointed out, the craftsmanship is amazing on these.
Too late. Got the 3059 with this kind of bridge but I did not have any problems with it. I just bought a 3235 in black and a 714 in honey recently, now having five Persols. I really cannot remember when I wore one of the Ray Bans for the last time. Persol sunglasses just look and feel so much better for me.
There is one issue I’ve noticed working at the Sunglass hut, that’s that the sizing on certain frames are the same but they fit diffrently. For example there is a 714sm that fits me (yellow pair) and then the same frame in the Havana doesn’t exactly fit as good. But that’s just me, just as a fair warning to all the persol lovers like me :)
Yes I agree I had the regular 714 folding glasses. But then upgraded to the 714 Steve McQueen glasses and they fit so much better. More tight for sure.
I have a few Persols with the Victor flex bridge and while the older pairs (30 + years- ratti pre Luxotica) have experienced some cracking at the flexion point, none have separated enough (or detached) thereby making the glasses unusable.
informative video, enjoyed the history too. I have a few pairs including 649s. Like a chimp, on my first pair I would bend the bridge to get a closer fit.I thought the steel support was meant for this purpose, don't do it. Bridge can be repaired with neat acetone, as this gently melts the ascertate, spend your time and do a nice repair, carefully protect lenses from acetone
I've worn Persol PO3269S's for 25 years, multiple pairs on the go at once because I don't like having to search around for them. Always in either Havana or black. One in the car, one in my work vehicle, pair at home, pair in my luggage. I usually have to replace a pair every two years or so from damage or loss (or theft) and I swear on my grandmothers life, they have really changed in the last 8 years or so. they're lighter, cheaper feeling and not as substantial as they used to be. Every optometrist and long time Persol wearer I've spoken to agrees with me. Persol swear they haven't changed anything, or are making them under license (I e-mailed) but they plainly have. Sad. I have to source vintage pairs now and get them polished and new lenses put in.
Impressive collection and an awesome beard bro!! I acquired an 80’s era 649 in black, that have the vintage 4 lined cuts in the arms, rather than the chrome double lines, that have that spacing on the bridge. Sad, and I know Their fate so I don’t wear em often. But they feel so much lighter and better than the 2018 version 649 which were just heavier. Thank you for your very thorough review of my fav sunglass. All the best.
Hi there maybe you can answer this question please...I have been wearing Persol eyeglasses for over 20 years and a current pair that I would like to replace is model 3015S...this model in no longer available....can you tell me which currently available model is closest in design or is in fact a replacement of the 3015S...thank you Don
Interesting review. Out of interest, how many pairs of Sunglasses do you own, what’s your favourite brand and if you could have only one pair, what would it be?
Over 400 pairs in my personal collection as far as brand go I made a video on it th-cam.com/video/e9cpUSCdewY/w-d-xo.html as far as only one pair I have no idea it’s impossible to choose when you have over 400 lol
You can bring them to your local eyeglass store or heat them up with a blow drier for 2-3 minutes and adjust the frames yourself. Plastic frames always warp from frequent use
Are there any Persols for large faces? I wear 62mm Rayban Aviators, RB4264, Maui Jim Red Sands, Costa Rincon, Maui Jim The Bird, Oakley Gauge 8L, Oakley Turbine and such. Any recommendations from Persol? Love Persol shades but I'm hesitant to buy because of the sizes. I have settled for Oakley, Costa, Ray Ban, Maui Jim, Revo, who all make large size sunglasses.
@@inglando yes they are terrific, they make my ran ban explorers feel like a toy. The only tips I can give is that they at times feel a little out of place. Like they don’t go with Athletic wear really unless you were talking about like an old-school Fila mobster tracksuit or something, and the case they come with is beautiful leather. However I am partial to store them when on the go in a extra ray ban case I have because the nose protector is really good on the ray ban case.
Just picked up a pair of the 714 Steve McQueen's with platinum plated lenses from Mr. Porter during their sale (heavy discount! yesssss)... This is my 2nd pair after losing my first pair many years ago. Will make sure I take care of these better. lol
Any plastic frames can be adjusted by using a blow drier for 2-3 minutes on the glasses to to warm them up, and then softly bend the frames to your desired fit. I do it with my plastic frames all the time and just adjusted my Persol glasses today. Make sure they’re warm enough and don’t every try to bend them before heating. The arms on plastic frames tend to bend outwards and slide down your face over time. Hope this helps!
I recently bought a pair of persol 3235s and though the build quality and looks were great, I had to send them back because they were just too heavy. The weight of them made them just uncomfortable to wear. Can anybody recommend a lighter model of persol, or are they all just general on the heavier side?
Have two pairs of Persol but their customer service is the worst. Both pairs stretched out so they would fit a bowling ball. Company solution is to give 100.00 credit. I would pay more than that to get them fixed and told them that. Waited on hold to talk to someone over 1 hour (no exaggeration). Buyer beware with this company.
l think you have to settle on a consistent opinion about Persol 649. In some of your videos solely about Persol 649 you praise them, not mentioning any of the problems you deal with here. And even stating 649 are your favorite sunglasses (which have by the way the "notorious" Victor Flex system). (th-cam.com/video/nzBB4lHDLIU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hb1LS-fJZTFMteZO)
You forgot to mention that they weigh like 45 grams, at least the 649 and 714. They are extremely uncomfortable to wear for prolonged periods of time. You can buy a perfectly fine pair of sunglasses that weigh half of that. And the overall build quality is often quite bad.
But then that is subjective. The weight of the sunglasses doesn't really bother some people. But Yes, for some it is an issue. So can't really call it a flaw. If the lens are made of glass the clarity is going to be the best but it's also going to be heavy.
@@vijeeshmenon1982 Well, 45 is 45 and it is a lot. It should be mentioned in a video called "Watch This Before You Buy Persol Sunglasses". For example, my pair of Ic Berlin sunglasses weighs only 18 grams.
Yeah I will give you the point that they are heavy and they can become somewhat uncomfortable after a long period of time but I do totally disagree about the build quality the build quality is absolutely phenomenal on them and they make my Ray-Ban explores feel like a toy in comparison but I do concede that my Ray-Ban’s are more comfortable
