    Thank you, Jacob Spink for a really great tour of this supercell. I'm so very glad to see you got away from there in plenty of time when you were witnessing the rain wrapped tornado. One thing I always was interested in is the top elevation of the parent supercells of these tornadic supercells. I always wondered how tall the main supercell was in the 22 May 2011 Joplin tornado, the 20 May 2013 Moore, OK tornado and the 31 May 2013 El Reno, OK tornado. I wonder if NOAA would have this info. Take care and be well.😌👍💯

      @@petermalanchuk8210 I appreciate you watching my video. The top of the cell for this storm was above 60,000ft. If you are interested in a lot of other prolific tornadic supercells, I would check out Convective Chronicles on TH-cam, he covers a lot of the more impactful and interesting storms that have occurred of the years.

      Hi,@@JacobWithACamera and thank you kindly Jacob. Unless I'm wrong, it looks as though you drove towards and into near the base of the Supercell at 3:31; I was curious as to why this change of course. Anyway, please stay safe and be well!

      @ I was fairly new to storm chasing at the time and my depth perception on storms like this and ability to read radar was a little bad, there was a report of a strong tornado that was behind the rain and I couldn’t see it, I decided to play it safe head away from the projected path of the tornado which was SE.
      In hindsight, I was perfectly safe and I would’ve been able to see an awesome sight shown in this video - th-cam.com/video/3gw8RZA_lZM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SvcykAdA1Z1GrzdO
      But it’s all okay, because I’ve seen plenty of nice storm structure since then.

      @@sabrinaelected The best method for sights like that is traveling to the backside of these storm cells during sunset. If they’re not so large, you can even see the updrafts being backlit by sunlight.

    I remember this distinctly, we went on top of tuttle dam after it had passed and watched the sunset. It was a beautiful afternoon.

    1:32 I know you probably didn't chase ER, but would you say the meso of this storm was wider than El Reno's? Apparently, the widest supercell/meso on record is Superior, NE from June 22, 2003, measuring at least 6 or so miles. I've always wondered if this one took the throne

      I’m not certain. It makes me wonder if mesocyclone size determines storm size or if the size of the storm determines the size of the mesocyclone.

    I was living in an apartment near the football stadium when this came through. What was weird was how it came directly from the north, literally straight south. I stood on my deck talking with my neighbors when it hit. Stood there till I realized there was a tornado less than a mile away. The winds were so string they knocked over multiple trees onto the roads in town. Some of the coolest photos I have are of the wall cloud and how bright blue the clouds were in between it and the storm.

    • @JacobWithACamera
      @JacobWithACamera  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This was the first time I had seen a storm moving that due south produce tornadoes (although I didn’t see any of them). The southern movement can be explained by the directions of the upper altitude winds, the winds were moving out of the NW because they were traversing a large high pressure ridge in the South Western United States. Though I don’t quite understand the the due south movement, it probably latched itself to the ground and just took off South.

    The storm structure of supercells always reminds me of the structure of the huge cloud in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

      Super cell thunderstorms are mind blowing. I was born in the location of this video and grew up about 3 hours drive from this place. I have seen dozens of supercell storms and they are still just as amazing to this day. You can literally feel the energy in the atmosphere around one. Very pretty and sometimes terrifying. Have been caught in a few with no shelter, don’t recommend that.

      That is the location of the WSR-88D Radar in Topeka, Kansas. The radar cannot scan anything close to its location because of the angle of its beam.

      Pillsbury Drive or US 177. This storm did produce a couple tornadoes, I think it did cause some home damage in Manhattan and other places, I’m not so sure about injuries though.
