Foremost, I'd like to say that this video wouldn't be considered cinematic at all. It's dashcam footage. Instead of simply posting dashcam footage sped up without a sound, I tried to at the least put effort into the video by adding some emotion to the video with images and audio so there wouldn't just be silence only. This supercell was intercepted near Manhattan, Kansas on June 11th, 2022. Aft...

1:32 I know you probably didn't chase ER, but would you say the meso of this storm was wider than El Reno's? Apparently, the widest supercell/meso on record is Superior, NE from June 22, 2003, measuring at least 6 or so miles. I've always wondered if this one took the throne
I’m not certain. It makes me wonder if mesocyclone size determines storm size or if the size of the storm determines the size of the mesocyclone.
The storm structure of supercells always reminds me of the structure of the huge cloud in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
Thank you, Jacob Spink for a really great tour of this supercell. I'm so very glad to see you got away from there in plenty of time when you were witnessing the rain wrapped tornado. One thing I always was interested in is the top elevation of the parent supercells of these tornadic supercells. I always wondered how tall the main supercell was in the 22 May 2011 Joplin tornado, the 20 May 2013 Moore, OK tornado and the 31 May 2013 El Reno, OK tornado. I wonder if NOAA would have this info. Take care and be well.😌👍💯
@@petermalanchuk8210 I appreciate you watching my video. The top of the cell for this storm was above 60,000ft. If you are interested in a lot of other prolific tornadic supercells, I would check out Convective Chronicles on TH-cam, he covers a lot of the more impactful and interesting storms that have occurred of the years.
Hi,@@JacobWithACamera and thank you kindly Jacob. Unless I'm wrong, it looks as though you drove towards and into near the base of the Supercell at 3:31; I was curious as to why this change of course. Anyway, please stay safe and be well!
@ I was fairly new to storm chasing at the time and my depth perception on storms like this and ability to read radar was a little bad, there was a report of a strong tornado that was behind the rain and I couldn’t see it, I decided to play it safe head away from the projected path of the tornado which was SE. In hindsight, I was perfectly safe and I would’ve been able to see an awesome sight shown in this video - th-cam.com/video/3gw8RZA_lZM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SvcykAdA1Z1GrzdO But it’s all okay, because I’ve seen plenty of nice storm structure since then.
Hi, Jacob! would it be possible to use this video in my US & Canada Compilation?

So so beautiful I see this when I come back from the day camp
I live in park city, KS and I haven’t seen this beautiful of a storm sunset EVER, the hail clouds, sky, Mwa, perfect.
@@sabrinaelected The best method for sights like that is traveling to the backside of these storm cells during sunset. If they’re not so large, you can even see the updrafts being backlit by sunlight.
Wait why do I saw the black hole on the map here !?
That is the location of the WSR-88D Radar in Topeka, Kansas. The radar cannot scan anything close to its location because of the angle of its beam.
OMG
Great chase and epic footage, nice work!
I appreciate the comment, thank you for watching.
I was living in an apartment near the football stadium when this came through. What was weird was how it came directly from the north, literally straight south. I stood on my deck talking with my neighbors when it hit. Stood there till I realized there was a tornado less than a mile away. The winds were so string they knocked over multiple trees onto the roads in town. Some of the coolest photos I have are of the wall cloud and how bright blue the clouds were in between it and the storm.
This was the first time I had seen a storm moving that due south produce tornadoes (although I didn’t see any of them). The southern movement can be explained by the directions of the upper altitude winds, the winds were moving out of the NW because they were traversing a large high pressure ridge in the South Western United States. Though I don’t quite understand the the due south movement, it probably latched itself to the ground and just took off South.
Looks like squall line
This was the rear flank downdraft gust front that was below the mesocyclone.

Saw those freaky looking bubble clouds in 1990 there and haven’t seen them since.
absolutely beautiful, magical 😮👏! I love it 😍! thank you for sharing this video with everybody 👍! A+ 💞
Bill Snyder Family Highway? Most of my 68 yrs in Kansas. Have seen a number of doozies. That one ranks up at the top. Hope it didn't hurt anyone!
Pillsbury Drive or US 177. This storm did produce a couple tornadoes, I think it did cause some home damage in Manhattan and other places, I’m not so sure about injuries though.
Magnificent!
beautiful but awesome
Disatro sono🙈🙈🙈
I remember this distinctly, we went on top of tuttle dam after it had passed and watched the sunset. It was a beautiful afternoon.
the mammatus that day was unreal on the west side of the cell
It was probably the most beautiful mammatus display I’ve seen.
@@JacobWithACamera do you have an email or something cus I got some photos from the same cell I would like to show you

Good job catching those
I did cable system rebuild and install back in about 1990, Salina and Manhatten. Don't have much use for the places.
Any slow-mo or freeze frames when you get the power flashes or when it is back-lit by lightning?
This video was just for documentation and educational purposes, I am still working on a full length video. I hope to have It finished tonight or sometime tomorrow. I will make sure to slow down or have highlights at real time.
I apologize, I haven’t had time to start the video, I’ve been very busy all week and I won’t have time this weekend as well
Thanks for posting this! Your battery life on the drone seems to go for days! Did you swap batteries in the middle of this?
I had multiple batteries and I did have to swap out since one was getting low. That’s why there’s a few cuts. The wind also wasn’t helping, it wasn’t very strong but the drone was having to compensate for an occasional wind gust which took my drones battery’s life from 30 minutes down to 20 minutes.
Great video. What's the song playing?
I’ll have to check, it was a free to use song from epidemic sounds.
@@JacobWithACamera Ok.
Beautiful colored clouds at the end. 🙂
Good stuff! I live in Cape Girardeau a little over two hours away from there.

Great intercept, Jacob! Love the wide angle shots
I appreciate the comment. Thank you for watching.
4:08 beyond here was reckless because you had the spot for a timelapse and ruined it by driving into the nader

Pretty cool structure!
Thank you what an amazing job so awesome
Thank you very much.
Man, generational-type damage, insane.
The worst tornado event in the St.Louis area since the 2011 EF4. And likely the deadliest in decades.
That beautiful turqoise in the clouds, man I would love to see a super cell atleast once in my life, probably never gonna happen because I live in The Netherlands but I hope one day I can visit the US to see one
Super cell thunderstorms are mind blowing. I was born in the location of this video and grew up about 3 hours drive from this place. I have seen dozens of supercell storms and they are still just as amazing to this day. You can literally feel the energy in the atmosphere around one. Very pretty and sometimes terrifying. Have been caught in a few with no shelter, don’t recommend that.

Definitely was a fantastic storm!
Try to send a drone into the thundercloud
I will have to give that a try the next time there is a lightning storm to intercept.
@@JacobWithACamera I want to see what is inside of a cloud while there is lightning. Just had my share on 10/12/22. It was 4th anniversary of 10/12/18 lightning storms. This was the third thunderstorm in Los Angeles County, CA in Oct!!
