This is a amazing movie and I'd watch it over and over again and I would never get bored with it. "FREEDOM" I LOVED MARTIN LUTHER KING JR FREEDOM SPEECH.
I loved this movie when I was a kid, but it had me terrified of going anywhere near Alabama. My husband is from Tuskegee and he took me to Selma last time we were there. The condition of Selma today is so sad.
They wanna continue to dumb our people down instead of feed us history & awaken our people. So yea Disney + would never put this on their platform. Even though they directed & as well as published it beloved, so that's a NO BRAINIER!!!
This movie made me cry, we still have a long way to go. Right now certain people are trying to undo the work of mlk and they are currently trying to remove affirmative action.
What a sad event and triage these people went through for their right and freedom , I felt so much for Jimmy and Jonathan's death even thought they die as a heroes for freedom .
I would have to agree with you, because I too feel so much for these two men, Jimmy and Jonathan, it's so sad how these people went through, even though what we have done to them, I just wish I could just take a whole bunch of those A**holes and put them in one Big Room, make them strip down all the way to where the sun don't shine, then heard them all in another big room, close all the doors and windows, open doors from the ceiling and pour every single color paint there is and known to mankind (I'm not talking about a certain wrestler), Then heard them one at a time into another room, and have speakers of other people's voices yelling at them, It doesn't matter to me either a person is Black, White, Red, Green, Purple, Orange, Yellow, Or as The Rock would say, "It Doesn't Matter What Color a Person's Skin is", also we are all god's children, we don't make the boundaries, it's A**'holes like that A**hole Sherrif that makes the boundaries, every time I see a person on TV, I see them as my Brothers and Sisters or as My Uncles and Aunts, also I wouldn't mind attending and worshiping at their church, even if I'm the only white Christian Girl there, also I have two Nieces, I wouldn't mind if they attended their kid's School (including High School), as would my Children, as would my Nieces Children, as would my children's children, and my nieces children's children, as would their children's children's children, as would my nieces children's children's children, as would my Children's Children's Children's Children, Etc. If she did, she unfortunately would have got hog tied with a noose to a tree and lynched for throwing the jar of jelly beans at the white guy or beaten up or jailed or maybe even shot at by racist white cops!! Times were definitely dangerous back then for black folks..
I remember watching this on Disney a couple times when I was younger, but haven't seen it on Disney+ which is a shame. This is a great movie for young kids to know what the past was like (some places it's still like) regardless of race.
Maybe? But what do you watch that isn't black AMERICAN history? Because somehow American black history has come to dominate all narratives about black history and I see not just young people starting to be really confused thinking that everyone's history is the same as the American history. All the internet shows is the evil roles Clifton Powell plays, and to be fair there’s a lot where he is evil. But this portrayal of Dr. King is absolutely powerful. Akin to Jeffery Wright in Boycott or David Oyelowo in Selma.
I would have to give him all the faithful assistance he need. I am going through some horrific injustice. However I would help the person who desires to destroy me . I would help give my faith to help his family despite how he hurts me.
One of the things I love about this movie is how well behaved black people were back in 1965. No stupid sagging pants, people not dressed like they just got out of bed! No one playing "music" at over the top volumes in there cars. No ganstas, no hoochi mommas, no in the hood garbage like we see so much of in our community now! Perhaps, best of all, you don't here any black folks in this movie cussing almost every sentence you here coming out of their mouths! In fact you hear no cussing at all! This movie is a breath of fresh air from what I see from the people in my community today!

True, but one thing that this movie got right that Selma 2014 got wrong is when the Bloody Sunday March started they shot the gun and the people ran off. In this movie and the real Bloody Sunday those people didn't move until they were pushed and trampled over.

I guess they didn't put it in the movie because this is a kids' version. You can see they tried to keep the violence as minimal as possible.
