Well, I'm 14 so I'd think it was 2006 or 2008 or 2009 or something but I remember being at elementary and watching this every martin luther king day. But I'm in High School now, so I guess things have changed. East Arcadia School was my school, gave me so many memories

This just unlocked a memory from elementary school. We all gathered in the library, the librarian rolled in the cart with the TV and VCR, and we all sat on little pillows on the floor and watched this movie. Then, after it was over, we had a discussion.

That moment when martin goes back to his own time and then suddenly that gunshot is heard gave me chills the first time i saw this movie, it made me feel so sad because miles just wanted to save him. And man, rewatching it again still gives me those chills. It's such a tragedy that martin luther king jr's life was taken away at a young age. He was a true human who all he ever wanted was for everyone to be seen as equals, to show that even if we are different on the outside by skin color, on the inside we are the same… we are human beings. Sadly racism is still strong till this day. It may be a horrible reality we are all living in, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something about it. We can take action to protect those who suffer this cruel form of hatred.

Also one of my teachers marched with him and she attended his funeral and showed us footage she had of his funeral on a VHS tape (it was impressive because we didn’t have TH-cam back then) and she bought the obituary she had to class to let us see it.

I genuinely love this movie for being my first introduction to Dr. King's work.
I think I was 5 or 6 when I was shown this movie in kindergarten on Martin Luther King day. I'll be real, I'm white and I was clueless about racism. I had received such a powerful lesson of empathy for others from this movie. I was so moved that I genuinely thought Martin Luther King ended racism. If only it were been that simple. If only everyone had heard King's speeches and heard he was speaking God's truths. If only he were never assassinated. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of my heroes, not only as a cultural but a spiritual leader for his time. If I ever was to lead a movement, I would take some serious notes from Dr. King's book. He may have died too soon but his message of peace overcoming all conflict lives on in the generations of children who came after him that learn the importance of his work in the Civil Rights movement.

Man I remember when I watched this in school I think 2003. I was only 8 when I watched it and I remember being quite sad at the ending of it. The gunshot followed by the real life footage after never left my mind even now.

This awoken a part of my childhood that has been locked away for a long period of generations. Every year during black history month we'd always watch this in class and it was an eye opening message to all of us to learn the truth behind the history of the Caucasian and African-American cultures. After the movie was over we'd have a discussion. Not only that; I remember that next day all of my classmates and I all came together and made a pact we will care for each other and see heart and not color thanks to our third grade teacher.
