Thank you for giving the Gollum and Kong devs your simpathies. You're the first person I have seen focus on the positive aspects of these games. So many internet personalities made money off of roasting them. It just made me sad because these games are in poor shape because of employee mishandling and mistreatment. Everyone loved to laugh at them but I can't find it funny when developers are stuck working crappy jobs and then get fired because of it.
Robocop also looks incredible from every angle because Teyon cut their teeth making on rails shooters which take a lot of consideration to how you SEE each area and it seems they took that same ethos forward from Rambo, to Terminator Resistance to finally Robocop. It is a good game that looks excellent
It's crazy to me how a licensed AA FPS like Robocop Rogue City has better gore/dismemberment and environmental destruction than many AAA FPS games. Good job Teyon. Now they need to make single player focused games for: Starship Troopers, Die Hard, Aliens/AVP, Judge Dredd, Escape From New York, and a real Rambo FPS.
I see the positivity too. I just think that people are a bit too spoiled these days and expect almost every game to be held to a certain standard. And more than likely these people started playing during the 8th gen and were never around for 5th or 6th gen, so to them this is unacceptable and it's trash. To them, license games don't belong in today's day and age of gaming when in reality they have no idea what they are talking about when all they do is either play some dumb live service with a $30 battle pass or spend over 100 hours in an empty, boring open world title and think its game of the year. When they have played as many games as I have (over a 1000 games) then they can come back and we can talk....
@@bobtom1495I mean, I know a lot of reveiwers that bag on things like Golum have been in the Games Journalism industry since the PS2 era, and have been gaming for a decade or so before that. I think its totally fair for a game as rushed as Kong or unpolished as Gollum to get bad reviews. They are not "good" games, and for the asking price you have so many better options. But there's also nothing wrong with seeing what was done well in a "bad" game. There are quite a few 5/10 games that I love, but wouldn't recommend to just anyone.
@@bobtom1495While I ultimately agree with most of what you said you do come off a bit gatekeepy at the end. Just let people enjoy what they enjoy but ultimately I do agree that modern gamers are spoiled brats. A big problem is that many people want to hate something just because, the negativity bias has been on a steady increase since 2007, and if you look close enough you can see what the problem is (It's social media). Plenty of people hate on a game without actually playing it, they just repeat what they hear and are unable to form their own opinions (even though they claim it is their own opinion). I see many modern gamers dismiss 7/10 games as "mid" which mid to them has ultimately become crap and "unplayable." Like I have seen plenty of people hate on Robocop because "It doesn't do anything new" but a game doesn't have to do something new, it just has to be fun (or have some other enjoyable qualities about it). We got the experience of seeing and playing all the growing pains, we got the experience of playing games at only 24fps or less, we have dealt with bad controls and awful graphics, we have realized just how much work actually goes into developing a game and we have tempered expectations because of it. Hell, I even enjoy some of those 'dumb live service games' and 'empty boring open world titles' because I can find something entertaining or fun in them.
@@GalanthosYes it is fair of them to get bad reviews but to me the problem simply comes down to people wanting to hate on something for some stupid reason. People want to point to those games (Gollum and Kong) as the reason "AAA games are bad" when those games were never AAA in the first place. Many people don't want to see the positives or look at the bigger picture (like how the Kong devs probably crunched their asses off for a year). One of the big games that I can point to is The Last of Us 2. I see so many people simply dismiss it as "Dogshit" and harp on it for being a bad game. The game improved on everything from the first game mechanically and graphically. It has beautiful graphics, animations, tense gameplay, powerful feeling weapons and had very minimal bugs but because someone doesn't like the story they call it Dogshit and pretend that the game killed their mom. We are moving towards absolutism with people unable to give nuanced takes and they only see things in black and white.

I was just looking at the Tin Tin game and thought that it looked ok, and I totally forgot about the Inspector Gadget game! Robocop was very good, but so was Terminator Resistance. Great video! As important as I feel it is to see the return of licensed kids games, I do wish they were better. The recent Smurfs platformer games were pretty good.
Honestly I hope the devs behind the robocop game keep making more stuff. Their terminator game, even if rough around the edges, was already a great ride made by people who clearly loved the source material, and robert cock rouge city shows that they clearly want to keep that same love up while improving on their gameplay department even further. I wonder what they'll do next after this.
Hearing your impressions on the environments in Robocop makes me think you might also appreciate The Division. Lots of dense details and variety in clutter.
For me, one of the more interesting licensed games to come out last year was UFO Robo Grendizer: The Feast of the Wolves. At a glance you might think, "big deal, another anime game". But what makes this one notable is that it wasn't developed by a Japanese studio and seems to have been made more for the childhood nostalgia of European and Arabic regions where it was a big hit. Also I love me some Go Nagai, so it's def something I'm interested in checking out. After watching the anime first of course. The Walking Dead: Destinies with it's overambitious gimmick of changing how events played out from the tv series is also some prime licensed game content.
I am curious to see how this video performs. I think you nailed it with the thumbnail. Holy shit, Robo cop looks amazing. Had no idea what it looked like. Looks like a next gen big budget came, from the snippets I saw prior to typing this. Some of it looks real. The PS5 is home to some "interesting" games.
12:43 HOLY FUCK WAIT I PLAYED THAT GAME. It was a “Rock Band” branded PC game that was basically a manager simulator! My Mom got me this from Big Lots for $5 innocently, knowing I really loved Rock Band/Guitar Hero at the time. Oh man. I played it because I genuinely thought it was a PC Guitar Hero game, I was SO disappointed. You didn’t even get to see the band you managed PLAY. All you did was hire people, select gigs, set pieces for the show (that again, you didn’t see). It was the most boring game I’ve ever played. (I love you Mom 😭❤️)
There was always a stigma for licensed games, probably because of all the dog shit pumped out on NES and Super Nintendo, so they probably just didn’t do well back then and all the copies were thrown out.
I loved hearing you talk about making this thumbnail. It's so neat to see it now . Thinking of it as cover art . I love it . I love your videos I love you man :3
hearing you talk about how night was handled before games had complex lighting systems, there's an experimental mod for Need For Speed Underground 2 called Remaster RTX Remix, and I feel that demonstrates the advantages of the "fake" baked in lighting of old games. Granted, it is an experiment, but something was really lost when games were able to have real lighting now.
RoboCop: Rogue City is amazing, and the fact they got Peter Weller to voice Robo. is even better. It's my headcanon sequel to RoboCop 1. I'm happy you liked the movie. It's the perfect movie.
The team that brought us Rambo really picked up their game (cough) after that stinker. Their Terminator game has no right being half as good as it is, knowing what they had put out before.
Man, a bright colorfully animated Gollum point and click adventure game might have been alright. Balance the dour atmosphere and cynical protag with some cool ‘in between’ story full of mystery puzzles and colorful characters (even if they are all evil orcs and stuff) might have been a okay in my book. We all watched Larian stick with what they knew and enjoyed and eventually release BG3. That, coupled with the opposite story of Redfall devs, should clue publishers into what’s going on. It won’t, but it should:) Let devs make the kind of games they would want to play…and good things follow
6:40 i actually just beat all of the deponia games recently cause i realized i had gotten them in some humble bundle thing several years ago and forgor. I actually liked it, it's not perfect, but charming!

I’m not sure if you looked up any info on the development team of Tintin for this video, but they also made Blacksad: Under the Skin a few years prior. It’s another solid (if somewhat flawed) licensed adventure game that I really like and was another reason why I was interested in the Tintin game.
the fact that dodo birds are basically mini bosses in Bing Bong is fucking hysterical. Why are they not being sent to the shadow realm when you hit them?

Disney's 102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue
Ratatouille on the ps2 solid contender
Toy Story 2 was a great and surreal experience.
My favorite licensed game is that Gears of War-ass Ghostbusters game we got a while back. That game was sick.
Yo, a friend of mine was in Tintin's development, so I'm glad you liked it
Hearing your impressions on the environments in Robocop makes me think you might also appreciate The Division.
I was unprepared for how atrocious those Shrek and Donkey impressions were, how did they even find a VA *this* bad at them
I am curious to see how this video performs.
I think you nailed it with the thumbnail.
Holy shit, Robo cop looks amazing. Had no idea what it looked like. Looks like a next gen big budget came, from the snippets I saw prior to typing this.
Some of it looks real.
The PS5 is home to some "interesting" games.
But... but it has no games...
@@P.Manoel Yes, I was thinking of that meme, but it is home to some interesting releases.🤔
(I love you Mom 😭❤️)
wait this implies all of gadget's ancestors were also altered cyborg people??
15:26 is that a sample from cruelty squad? I'm feeling a real ceo mindset from that patreon song 👀
16:08 & 23:36, what games are these?
it is interesting how so many ps2 license games are rare and no longer available outside emulations.
There was always a stigma for licensed games, probably because of all the dog shit pumped out on NES and Super Nintendo, so they probably just didn’t do well back then and all the copies were thrown out.
I always appreciate and look forward to your vids, Thor. Always one of the most creative creators I shill when it comes to vidya.
U make the best thumbnails good vid also
Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! has been off the air for 14 years and imitators still haven't been able to improve on the style...
What game is that at 17:32? Looks cool
Dirge Of Cerberus. It is indeed cool.
@@Nov-5062 thank you!
I'll never not burst out laughing at "Rise of Skung"
Whats the song in the background at approximately 41:00 ? And can you put up song names in general once you play them for two secs maybe?
The Yakuza AC ad hit me like a truck, thanks for that, lmao
I spent too much time in that world, so this spoke to me on a very deep soulful level.
RoboCop: Rogue City is amazing, and the fact they got Peter Weller to voice Robo. is even better.
It's my headcanon sequel to RoboCop 1.
I'm happy you liked the movie.
It's the perfect movie.
the goddamn clocks in robocop show the current time. there was no reason to go that hard
took a break from gooning to watch this, very cool thor!
Does anybody know the name of that go go gadget song at 36:00
Kinda grumpy the Tube didn't show this on my feed. Was thinking "wonder when the Thor drops".
Love this coverage.
Calling Daedalic's adventure "mid-tier" kinda doesn't do them justice.
DaDa's Bland Journey
The Gollum game looks like an even cheaper version of Styx but that game was pretty alright though.
That Patrick Star dub is 10/10
The Inspector gadget was awesome. I wish it would’ve gone a bit longer.
Holy shit you have about the lowest bar for quality I've seen, fascinating! Subbed!
Instant liked for the thumbnail
6:40 i actually just beat all of the deponia games recently cause i realized i had gotten them in some humble bundle thing several years ago and forgor. I actually liked it, it's not perfect, but charming!
Yo, what's that sick-ass game at 17:42 when Thor is talking about light-sources/dark city vibes?
The one with the Underworld/RE Movie looking lady?
Bullet Witch
Robocop: Rogue City is the best Robocop 2 adaptation ever.
What are the 4 games showed before the graphic? Thanks
what time of the video you refer to?
I was watching a video where they talked about the Racing Lagoon fan translation AND YOU UPLOAD NOW? What a coincidence lol
That Go-Go-Gadget Flow was absolutely SICKENIIIINNNNNGG
I feel very sorry for the ppl of Daedalic, enjoyed their adventure renaissance back then.
need a full video review for like a dragon gaiden like the one for Stranger of Paradise, just bought it from second hand bin after a slight mention in this video lol
love your videos thor, another great piece of media you just created... DAMN
THOR THOR THORIUM!!!
You’re also a good voice for Patrick lol
I’m not sure if you looked up any info on the development team of Tintin for this video, but they also made Blacksad: Under the Skin a few years prior. It’s another solid (if somewhat flawed) licensed adventure game that I really like and was another reason why I was interested in the Tintin game.
@6:11 Unexpected Dark Hollow music making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as I'm transported 25 years into the past.
the fact that dodo birds are basically mini bosses in Bing Bong is fucking hysterical. Why are they not being sent to the shadow realm when you hit them?
whats the game at 18:33?
Beautiful Enemy Zero track during a one-sided discussion of Rise of Kong?
Hell yeah brother 🤙
Lol😂😂😂, “but that’s the wrong Kong” lol 🤣 .
Watching this video made me realize that the prisoner death sound from Demons' Souls is the same sound they used in the intro of Sunbeams Streaming Through Leaves On The Hill from the Evergrace OST. Not sure what to do with that information.
the 2000s are back
You kind of sold me on the Robocop game. I have to be careful with you though. You have a way of making even the worst games sound like a blast.
Thor you have made my valentines day
"duky-nuky", "robert-cop"
THH watching Joel confirmed
Glad someone finally mentioned DreamWorks racing lmao, that game was a bizarre fever dream
31:09 is that an actual line of dialogue from Seaman or did you AI generate that using his voice?
it was mined from the games files it just went unused. i would never ai a voice
16:18 track name?
What's the game in the clip at 18:37?
Winback 2 on PS2
