    Great flick. Jude Law really nailed the playboy persona and upper class American accent from mid-century. And Gwyneth Paltrow's dagger eyes at Tom toward the end were great too. Marge knew, but the Greenleaf men didn't believe her and thought she was a silly paranoid woman.

    • @Smithpolly
      @Smithpolly 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I'm not sure if I remember right but I don't think they didn't believe her because they thought she was a silly paranoid woman. They didn't believe her because they thought Tom and Dickie were having an affair and that Tom was being a good guy by protecting Marge from finding out about the affair. So they understood that from Marge's point of view, Tom must have seemed to be behaving suspiciously. It's just that they thought they knew a reason for why he was behaving that way that they couldn't tell her.

      @HuntingViolets 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Smithpolly I don't think Dickie's dad thought they were having an affair. (And he was the only Greenleaf man left.) He thought Dickie had killed Freddie and later himself and Tom was protecting him as much as possible and was a good guy. I'm not sure Mr. Greenleaf could hold in his mind the idea that Tom and Dickie were having an affair and that Tom was a good guy both. By the way, I do recommend the recent miniseries adaptation, _Ripley,_ with Andrew Scott.

    The jazz motif was appropriate, because if there was one talent Ripley had, it was improvisation. You put him in any situation, and he can work with it. This movie is an underrated masterpiece, and every time I watch it, I see more and more in it.

    Even though he got away with it, he ended up losing in the end. Peter actually cared for Tom, but he got rid of Peter to protect himself. I think he would have gotten rid of Marge, but she was with an entourage, which saved her life. Remember, he asked her if she was alone 😳

      Also because narcissists become bored of people easily, so even though Tom liked the way he looked through Peter's eyes, Tom had to put in work to pretend he really was this great guy Peter thought. He didn't need Peter anymore because Meredith could now give him his supply. She thought he was perfect too, only Tom didn't have to pretend he was poor as a church mouse anymore in latching onto Meredith and her family, he could now pretend he was rich Dickie legitimately since Dickie's father gave him a trust fund of his own. And Tom wanted to live that highfalutin life.

  • @dustinlindsey4452

    This movie is based on a book by Patricia Highsmith, and is one of the rare cases the movie is far better than the original storyline. --And it isn't really a happy ending for Tom either because he had to kill Peter Smith Kingsly at the end to ensure his safety, which is implied to be his lover and the only one that knows Tom's true sexuality. The whole film is about false identity on a multitude of levels. Also, it seems crazy to us now but indoor plumbing was very much a luxury esp in Europe, so bath water was often used by several people before it was drained, a lot of tubs had to be filled by hand or the water basin attached to it had to be filled by hand, plus the heating of the water was costly and took a long time, to name a few reasons.

    I read the book. Which became a series of books. Ripley suffered a lot of bad things as a child. Hitchcock wanted to do this movie, but Ripley manages to get away with his deeds, which Hitchcock couldn't do since all the bad guys in his movies faced the consequences of their crimes. Patricia Highsmith was a terrific thriller writer. Every time it looks like Ripley will get caught, he manages to finesse his way out of trouble and get away with them. Highsmith was amazing at making you feel sympathy for the bad guy.

    I love your hair Asia. You're so gorgeous. And I'm happy you guys reacted to this movie. It's an incredible thriller. It's based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, which is awesome as well.

    This movie along with Bourne Identity shot Matt Damon to another level. One of the best performances of his career.

    Matt Damon was great, I remember this one coming out the year I graduated high school, never saw it. Cool to see an edited version. BJ Ripley's believe it or not thing was pretty cool. Unsolved Mysteries show has a clip about fertility statues that you might find interesting. I think both of you would like it, Ripley's had it at their main office for a period of time then moved it to a bigger building. Please find the clip and react to it on your react channel. Thanks! Nice reaction. Btw, my signature is 3rd grade cursive. Next Gwyneth Paltrow Patreon movie suggestion: A Perfect Murder (1998).

    Matt Damon was arrested for impersonating a police officer during filming this movie. He was a method actor.
