    • @jjh2456

There is a story about how after Ryan beat him in the 400IM in London Michael had a crisis in confidence and how Nathan Aidrian got into Michael’s face and reminded him who he was. Ryan set the world record in that race and Michael didn’t make the podium. The fact that Michael Phelps had a confidence crisis because Lochte beat him tells you how much respect Michael had for Ryan because at that point nobody could ever make Michael think that low of himself.

So, is the assumption that a WR holder could only have achieved that status by having tried everything under the sun or is it rather an observation that you don't have to try everything under the sun in order to succeed, but rather find what works for you. After all, I haven't seen him achieve his former level of competitiveness/performance as a result of Michael's advice.

They were held at gunpoint. It was a shakedown. He didn't break a door, but actually knocked a sign which then fell off a wall. Also, the Brazilian government did lie about the entire scenario. Not an experience you'd want to find yourself in. Rio's crime rate is astronomical. On the same day of the incident several other teams were accosted/robbed. Apparently, there's no controversy over that, but slight misbehavior as a pretext for the use of potential deadly force is acceptable behavior.

Also, he has 5 of the top 10 times in his WR event, the 200 IM. The other 5 times are Phelps. Furthermore, Lochte has the fastest textile time ever in the 400 IM and is the fastest American ever (textile suit) in the 200 backstroke. He's the 2nd best American male swimmer ever and has swum a good dozen close races with Phelps. Definitely a rival, even acknowledged by Phelps.

    1. He was not charged with any crimes and wasn't even reprimanded for his actions.
    2. The way he initially lied about being the victim is just straight evil and malicious.
    3. It's nearly impossible to believe that he actually learned something from this situation after the obvious leniency he was given due to his status as an Olympic athlete.
Basically, my point is Ryan Lochte is trash and who cares if he used to be a good swimmer. Michael Phelps was the better anyways lol.
