Dhanuja Boyagoda I didn’t realize how much Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon interrupt their guests until I saw the comment section on a Graham Norton (UK chat show host) video. He doesn’t do it hardly at all and now it’s glaringly obvious to me how American late night hosts can barely let a guest finish a thought before they just in to move them along to something else. Not sure about sports reporters/interviewers though.
This guy could be any.of us who goofs up is vulnerable and tries to recover, the thing is he is so human...huge achievement a flawed hero...great interviews
Honestly I feel for the guy. He’s not the most aware and you forget what kind of hype is around these athletes and how stunted they can be in terms of maturity because they don’t live in the real world. Yes, he embellished the story and was irresponsible. But I don’t believe he deserved all the hate he received. And US swimming used him as a media scapegoat and he never came back from that. Michael Phelps had a notorious problem with alcohol and I never heard him getting vilified like this guy was in the media.
@sfairraid 13 There were video footage of the incident. He and other younger swimmers were never held in gunpoint. They were never mugged. They were in fact trashed the store and they would not pay.
I just watched a few of these videos of Lochte that seemed to land in my recommendations. He doesn't seem ok and I can understand why. I just feel very concerned. I'm glad I watched these videos and I wish more people do because then people can hear the real story.
The suicidal ideation part he speaks of stands as a good testament to how much these smear campaigns do. This dude seems pretty authentic talking about this & his situation was just over doing some frat boy dumb ass antics; i think its underrated how possible it is to drive some of these stars to suicide thru the public shaming ritual that sells so well today.
What he had to go through in 2016--and understandably there were repercussions and all but the media had a field day. He was hated and his image was tarnished and people still wouldn't give the man a break. People raided the stage when he was on DWTS which was taking things way too far. However the silver lining is he is happily married with 2 kids. From what I hear he partners with a place that gets kids into competitive swimming. Ryan's an overcomer to say the least!
Well, he ruined his own career. He was a full ass grown 32 year old man at the time and should have known better. What this is was rich spoiled bratty American privilege thinking he'll get away with it because he's American with a lot of money. He appeared on DWTS shortly after the Rio scandal all in the same year so it would totally justify why there were protesters there to express their anger and frustration towards him. DWTS glamorize this guy and his despicable actions by putting him on the show too soon, again rich upper-class privileges, so I don't blame people for being upset over this. He should have said no to DWTS and stayed off the spotlight for a while. The timing was off and too soon. It would be more appropriate now to ask him to be on the show as a redemption to himself to prove to others that he's changed and no longer the person who he once was and people would have warm up better to this instead. Most people deserve second chances and Ryan is one of them so I wish him well and best of luck!
Thanks for doing this interview. I had no idea what actually happened, only the media version. The mob mentality of people is truly frightening because they lose all sense of reason, logic, and reality. It's next to impossible to communicate with them. They behave like vultures.
?? Seriously folks, we all know that ridiculous 14 month suspension would NEVER have happened if Ryan was jewish or black, because USA Swimming would have been accused of discrimination and people would have been rioting in the streets to have the suspension removed. There is a reason why nice guys like him need a ruthless battle axe of a manager/agent to put the fear of God into anyone that dares to threaten their client... where was his publicist and his legal team when this insane media 'doping' story happened.)
I officially invite Ryan to appear on an episode of Big Boy Pants Golf, TH-cams hottest golf channel. This guy, once you get to see him more, really grows on you.
Ryan sorry to be the bearer of reality, no matter how happy or unhappy our lives are, none of use will get out of this alive, absolutely no exceptions we're all going to wind up dead.
Incidents are literally the only reason the public remembers him he is not a major name, it would be completely irresponsible for an interviewer just skip that part of the questioning in a career retrospective. You don't care about information or knowing things you just want to feel better and I'm sorry you're so sensative.
He's often had a thing where he just says things. Doesn't know why. I suspect he's severely traumatized, from since childhood tbh. Needs to sort himself out.

He should have sued US swimming for defamation and fraud, because he never took anything illegal and he could prove it. Just because someone thought it looked like he did does not make it so. It is BEYOND criminal what they did to him.
Ok...as someone who worked in a vitamin infusion clinic and didn't know the rules (in the beginning) for vitamin infusions with olympic/pro marathon runners, the rule book clearly states that they cannot use IV infusions, they can do vitamin injections of a very small ml dose and obviously came up with that number based on whatever research/studies/observations made on the effects for pro athletes. I am making a guess here but I would venture to say the same goes for swimming pro athletes (and there is a definition for who is considered pro)in terms of this rule being known and published for some time. So for Ryan to say he didn't know seems a bit disingenuous. Or to explain it away as just water or it is only vitamins doesn't matter if that's what the rules are...this is not Ryan's first rodeo. The real moral to the story is there's no need to post EVERY detail of your life on social media 🙄😐😑. Be well and be at peace.
Well they forgot that they damage the gas station than tryed to run away without paying and lied about the robbery. Oh and I almost forgot that they involved the brazilian police and justice to that bullshit. Man got what he deserved.
Thank you and there were video footage of the whole incident. It was indeed a disgrace to the US, Olympics and the host country! Talking about implications on international affairs.
You need to watch that video footage again, it shows him not doing damage and him being held at gunpoint. Also photographic evidence after the event proved that the Rio police were lying.
Why are you interviewing this person? Don't you remember that he committed crimes in Brazil and made the U.S. look terrible? I believe in people making mistakes and in giving second chances but in this situation: 1. He was not charged with any crimes and wasn't even reprimanded for his actions. 2. The way he initially lied about being the victim is just straight evil and malicious. 3. It's nearly impossible to believe that he actually learned something from this situation after the obvious leniency he was given due to his status as an Olympic athlete. Basically, my point is Ryan Lochte is trash and who cares if he used to be a good swimmer. Michael Phelps was the better anyways lol.
Did you just copy this comment on all his Lochte videos and not even bother watch even one? He legitimately explained in this video that event in Rio actually happened and he only changed the story of how far the gun was to him. The gun was pointed at his chest a few feet away, not right at his forehead a few inches away from him. Yes, he shouldn't have changed any part of the story but ge didn't deserve all the hate he got from it. The media decided to only tell part of the truth as well. Why don't you watch the video instead of looking ridiculous by making such a comment & clearly not watching the video where he says exactly what happened. People are human & make mistakes. They don't deserve to be crucified by the media, leading to internet hate and self-destruction.
I like how Graham lets his guest speak unlike some people 🙄

Yeah, Ryan, stop beating yourself up. It’s over. This is how role models act, admit a mistake and get past it.
He's a great example of: if they can make an example out of you- they will. If you're not Phelps or the rock star employee, watch your back.
He seems broken...or high...or both.😢
BROKEN!!
So sad...Glad he is doing well....

He seems to be medicated with something, a mood stabilizer, in this interview.
Is this what the Florida sun does to the skin? Lochte is just 2 years older than the interviewer but what a big difference in their skin condition...
@Tony nah this is different

Hey! A near forgotten incident that happened in 2016! Let's rehash it so people are reminded why they were upset!
Incidents are literally the only reason the public remembers him he is not a major name, it would be completely irresponsible for an interviewer just skip that part of the questioning in a career retrospective. You don't care about information or knowing things you just want to feel better and I'm sorry you're so sensative.
