When I was a little kid (many years ago) my auntie would take her rug out into the front yard in the summer and hose it down, add some soap and have me and my sisters use our feet to "scrub" it. We wore our bathing suits, of course, and we thought it was great fun. Then she'd hose it down again and let it dry. I hadn't thought of that in years till I saw your video! Thanks!

As someone who looked into having my Ikea rugs cleaned professionally, I can confirm that it DOES cost as much as buying a new one. I used to rent one of those power washers which is very affordable as well and I clean allllll the furniture when I have it as well. It's an annual thing, also in summer.
Why I haven't thought of soaking the carpet in the tub is beyond me though...probably because it gets super heavy.

@@remicloghey love! Just a quick thing I learned a few years ago: fabric softeners like Comfort (or any brand!) reduces the absorbency of fabrics including items like towels and rugs. With little ones, if they spill something the fabric won’t soak it up as well so liquid can pool underneath where you can’t see it, damaging the wood floor 😭
Even scarier, it makes things more flammable! 😭 It’s the biggest reason kids clothes shouldn’t be washed with fabric softener - it removes the flame retardants and actually makes them more flammable. If your rugs have been washed with fabric softener they’ll smell nice but god forbid if you have a house fire, they’ll go up like a Roman candle and might prevent you getting out 😭 Tumble dryer sheets are the same. A regular wash with detergent, without any other laundry stuff, is safest 🙌🏻❤️

Hi Remi! I just found your channel this morning and I’ve binged watched every short you’ve posted and now I’m part way through your long form videos. I’d like to tell you why I love your channel and what it means to me. I’m a tidy person, and I do like to keep a clean house. I’ve tried to instill that in my kids, but my 18 year old daughter has executive function delays and she struggles with mundane tasks like chores, cleaning, self care and such. Your videos are helping me to better understand what my daughter must be feeling. How overwhelmed she feels when things seem too much. Your videos are teaching me how to help her by being understanding and compassionate. I learned a long time ago my daughter is not lazy. Her struggles are real and they are hers. They are not mine to control or to judge. Thank you for bringing this to light and showing people that just because a person struggles being tidy doesn’t mean they are “lazy”. I love your videos so so much. Thank you, Remi, for all that you do. ❤

I wash my own rugs too. I take them outside, spray the driveway clean with my hose and then spread the rug out, get it all wet, soap it up and scrub with my long handle brush. Do it about 3 times rinse very well and rolled real tight to get water out and just like you hang it on my fence. LOL I love your videos, you're so real about everything. Big hello from San Antonio, TX USA

Kudos to you! No way I’m lifting that thing soak & wet. When my kids were little, a lot of the time we were strapped for money, we lived in what would be equivalent to council housing. One time the living room carpet was in desperate need of cleaning and I cleaned it by hand, my knuckles were so sore and bloody afterwards, ugh…it took days for them to heal. I swore that I’d never do that again (and I haven’t), but, I tell you that was the cleanest that carpet ever got, even better than the times when I used a carpet cleaner.😅

This bought back so many childhood memories of my mum doing this in the summer with the rugs, curtains and large blankets. Washing the rug in the bath upstairs then lugging it down to hang out to dry. I've 'upgraded' now to a house with a shower (It was either a shower or a bath tub don't have the space for both) and I wish there was a cheap way to wash the rug and curtains.

I can't afford professional rug cleaning either, but I did purchase a carpet shampooer on sale for Christmas one year. It's been a great bonus!

Brilliant idea. I’ve got a shaggy type rug from ikea and it’s an absolute bitch to clean and far too expensive for a professional, so, I’m gonna take advantage of the weather and use the hose and soap and leave it out to dry. Very rewarding though, seeing all the muck come out, I love that bit! 😂 xxx

It's great having a good smelling hug 😊
In Brazil it is common to wash our rugs at home. We don't usually have bathtubs here, maybe our way of doing it is faster and makes less mess at home. We use a paved place in the backyard to place the rug, wet it with a hose and scrubbe the rug with soap and a broom. After rinsing we hang it up like you did on the fence. If you don't have a place big enough to spread the rug out on the backyard floor, maybe you can hang it over the fence with a brush instead of a broom. I imagine it must have been difficult to carry the wet rug out of the house

Laying the rug in the sunshine between washes will kill off dust mites and help keep it fresh. Turn it over to do the underside - fantastic to do between washes.

Thank you for being environmentally conscious and doing the work to clean your rug! So much better than that suggestion to dry clean it or worse, tossing it into the landfills. I wash most of my clothing by hand in the summer as well. I find it quite satisfying to see the dirt that comes out. Afterwards, I reuse that dirty water to flush my toilet several times. Save the planet! ❤
