@@ricknineg After Death Wish 5: The Face Of Death (1995) they wanted to reboot the series with a younger actor in the main role but it never reached fruition! Also Rick there is a Charles Bronson lookalike Robert Bronzi who has in recent years made many movies in the same style as Bronson including Death Kiss (2018). 🎥🎬🎞🔫
I saw this episode as a teen and young adult and it stuck with me especially the lack of Dialog and all the gestures and looks conveying their thoughts. Wild yet dramatic!
Twilight Zone was and is still the best show of it's kind. I did not know that Hal Roach studios was this developed. Looks like a Paramount back lot as well. Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed.
Mind blown! 🤯 That info must have been hard to hold back when you were filming the Hal Roach Studio video! Very clever transitioning! And not a bad Charles Bronson impression either. lol.
A very prekrasny ep. It speak volumes when an ep doesn't need much or any spoken words. Notice that Agnes Moorehead (aka Endora) in the TZ ep "The Invaders, only cried, grunted and groaned but she did convey a wonderful message. Cheers one and all.
I remember LOVING The Twilight Zone when I was like 7 or 8. But I saw a couple in my 20s and thought "This Is Weird" I never watched it again. The location looked like The Ghost Town Batman and Shame had their show down in.
Nice job on this Rick. I grew up on Hal Roach reruns as a kid, watching them before school, because we actually had cable in 1967 ( we were so far out, we got it super early). And saw a lot of TZ as reruns. Congrats on your channel. Mikrowave1 just passed 14 years and I am at 18K subs. Ham radio Geek Nerd Project Channel! Ha.
When you mentioned that the corner used in this episode was also used in The Little Rascals, I was expecting to see a picture of that corner from a The Little Rascals episode. You could've included a pic, dude!
There was so much talent available. So many were in The twilight zone. Bronson,Redford,Hopper and even Carol Burnett as well as Elizabeth Montgomery. And this is just a few of many who would be in many television series through the 60-70 and 1980's.
Once again, Rick, you came up with a very interesting information. In this episode, Charles Bronson was his usual tough guy self with a penchant for peace while Elizabeth Montgomery, with her dark hair, was unrecognizable to my young self, when I first watched this episode. Of course, when the later series of Bewitched came out, the cat was let out of the bag when we saw Serena for the first time! On the question at hand... I did wonder how come it wasn't one of the other points of view from the Other City Backlot which we see so often in shows like Star Trek, Batman, Green Hornet, Bewitched and so many others of that era, the most recognizable being the McMann & Tate building from Bewitched. My turn to ask a question. While I truly like the Twilight Zone for keeping the black and white aesthetics, I would like your opinion, Rick, and you, dear reader, on something: you remember those other television series of the mid 60's which had one first season in black and white and the following seasons were all in color? A few examples come to mind, like: Lost in space, Bewitched, Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jeannie and a few others. My question: wouldn't you say that being filmed in black and white gave the series more gravitas, precisely because of the black and white esthetics of Twilight Zone, The Untouchables, The Outer Limits and others? Even though the first shows I refer to were meant to be comedies or, at least, family oriented, to me the dramatic situations (Captain Nelson being stranded way off-course, the precarious living conditions of the Castaways of Gilligan's Island, the Giant Cyclops in Lost in Space, etc.) seemed more dire situations than when the series transitioned to color were their plight actually became farcical, the most extreme case being Lost in Space...?
It's my understanding that for those who had color televisions, they wanted lots of vivid colors in every scene of every episode of every show. So that, it seems, may be why the dramatic effects differ so much between color and black & white episodes of the same show.
One of my favorite episodes. Little did anyone know how big both Bronson and Liz Montgomery were about to become then. Both did a great job in this episode.
Loved the distopian atmosphere. Reminds me of the fear of nuclear war prevalent through the 60's, til now. The line from the CSN song 'Wooden Ships ', "I can see by your coat your from the other side, can you tell me ,please, who won?"
Hi Rick 9-G 😊, I thought it was the Desilu 40 acres backlot where the Andy Griffith show was being filmed. I thought I recognized the bank building at the nexus of the two roads and right behind it where the sheriff’s office is. But then after thinking about it, I realized that it wouldn’t make sense to dilapidate the area right when The Andy Griffith Show was being filmed. Thanks for this information. I always enjoyed that episode of The Twilight Zone. I have a question for you Rick: Why did the producers change the name of the show from The Twilight Zone to just Twilight Zone? I never understood that. On a similar note, I would like to hear your opinion on this: When they did change the title name, they also extended it from 30 minutes to 60 minutes. I never thought the 60 minute episodes were as good as the 30 minute episodes, and in some cases I didn’t even enjoy watching them. What is your opinion of the 60 minute episodes? Thanks Rick.
On another website, it states that the steps to the apartment building (2:03) + (4:46) - was the apartment building were Abbott & Costello rented their room - in their 1950's television series (i.e with Mr. Fields as their landlord).
at one point, Bronson was "the man" and the highest paid actor in Hollywood. He had survived the horrors of WWII, yet he stared in so many war movies.. can't get any tougher !
I'm assuming Hal Roach's heyday was back in the 20s and 30s......Really 90+ years ago. I had a good laugh at the sign that read "Haircuts $5.00". I can't imagine a hair cut cost $5.00 in the 30s. I'm thinking, in the heights of the depression, probably around a quarter. Even in the early 60s, I'm thinking around $2
The way Bronson ate that chicken out of a can made me hunger for a piece, and it remained so fleshy even after several bites, it had to be the most sumptuous meal ever in the annals of cinema!
NARRATOR!!! Important new flash about this ep. When Bronson looks at a couple of movie posters marked "Furlough Romance". The woman in the posters is late, beautiful actress Judy Tyler. She did 'Jailhouse Rock' where she played Peggy. She died in a car crash in late 1957 I think. The man with her seemingly also in the photo is superstar Jimmy Stewart as a young man.
I didn't know they filmed this episode at the former and abandon Hal Roach Studios also to know that before Bewitched Elizabeth, Dick York, Larry White, and Angus all did an episode(s) of the twilight zone. Plus, this was the only Charles Bronson thing I ever seen him in.
a very sad studio tale, such history torn down.... ...on the other hand, Elizabeth in (mho) her most beautiful pictures even with the dirt.... Liz & Dawn & i on a tropic island..... hmm.....

Agreed. She looks so childishly cute, yet childishly stern.
Yes!!
I never seen this episode but man Elizabeth Montgomery 😍
@@billbeverly2864 Indeed, much better as a brunette! She was silent, smoldering, intense, but with an innocence and vulnerability that was touching.

For whatever reason, this episode of TZ is the one that I recall most often.
I remember it super well and seen it many times. But it is not the most memorable.
Good video very informative. Back then TV and movies budgets were tight so I can see why they used that old set.

This was a great episode!!
I watched it when it was not a rerun in 1961. I was 8 years old.
