The Fairy Necklace revives Adol when he dies, BUT they coded it wrong on the SNES/SFC version so it doesn't work. It works on the Genesis/TG16 versions.
I think it's also worth mentioning that Wanderers From Ys is generally considered somewhat of a black sheep and the low point of the series in terms of gameplay. It has received a reimagining on PC (later ported to PSP) called Oath in Felghana which completely changes it into an isometric RPG and is considered one of the best entries in the series. Funny how that works. In true Falcom fashion, the music is amazing in both entries though.
5:19 while i wouldnt recommend playing this game again, a helpful tip: you can open the menu and save after the bulk of that cutscene is finished, before stepping on the platform
In case anyone was wondering, the Fairy Necklace is bugged and doesn't work. It's supposed to revive you with ful health when you die, but, again, bugged. Fitting the game makers also made Fanxanadu, with its Pendant that is also bugged so that by picking it up you LOSE attack power (the 'trigger' starts the game ON instead of off, so you start with the attack boost and picking up the Pendant turns it off instead).
I had a controller with an auto and turbo setting. I used an area right by the pit with neverending enemies to auto level. Just faced in a direction, turned on the controller, and watched the MST3K turkey day marathon.
As a kid i always pronounced it 'wise' but i loved this game so much as a kid... mostly because of the music, but the difficulty intrigued me. I alwaays teied to get as far as i could at the lowest level i could. Lagoon is amazing as well. You should check out pj's deathless single segment speed run in like just over an hour. So good. Great video sir. I came across your avgn retirement video lol i kinda agree his videos used to be amazing i could stay up all night watching them back to back. Not even interested anymore. After a while i realized that he might have a better collection but i guarantee ive finished more games than james has.
In case you are wondering, some of its gameplay problems are the fault of the porting team. In truth, every console versions of the game had it's own share of problems. (And, please, do yourself a favor and listen to both the original and the PCE version of the ost, that's another thing the porting company fucked up)
Falcom games are my soft spot, specially Brandish and Ys. Try out Brandish the Dark Revenant and Brandish 2. These are unique and fantastic experiences. On the SNES Ys 4 and 5 are very good.
I remember enjoying this a fair bit. Dunno if it was the 'epic' dual-background thingy, actiony tracks, or what. But then I also vaguely remember using a turbo control to farm some flying enemies; i.e. leaving the game for a few hours and coming back max level / $$, so grinding wouldn't have been a demerit.
I'm glad this game got a remake with Oath of Felgana. There is also the fact that the 3 versions of the original all play strangely different. The SNES version is widely regarded as the most difficult one but with a decent presentation. The Mega Drive / Genesis version is more forgiving in it's difficulty but the presentation is weaker. If you want to play the best version of Wanderes from Ys and not Oath of Felgana you need to play the PC Engine CD version. I has better presentation than the SNES version but the difficulty is more balanced, just like the Mega Drive version This game isn't terrible. But all the other Ys games tower over it in terms of gameplay.
I like how someone took a look at this game and said “we can do better” then made the high-polish PS2 version. Then someone looked at that version and said “no, seriously you guys, we can do BETTER.” And then made Ys III: The Oath in Felghana
While what you said is mostly true, you can actually sequence break in WB3 and do the cave area sooner. With a cheat you can also transform on the fly. I don't think leveling is a background element in Z2, it's both deeper (manual distribution and you can save points for later) and about as useful. But anyway, good review!

Ahh yes, Why’s 3! Such a beautiful game!
In his first video of this series I think he calls them the "Y" "S" games.

The low point is 5 in all honesty
Ys 1 and 2 kind of ripped off Zelda and Hydelide Zelda 2 ripped off Zelda 2.
3 on the Turbo CD is great.
Gotta say...this is the first time I've heard someone address this game as Y S

Such an underrated channel!!!!
I think the game Ys III reminds me of the most is Exile, right down to fighting giant ants.

We must follow the confabulated linguistic rules of the world of Ease (Ys).
very tim rogers
Ole boy is genuinely the only mans not frustrated by knock back when playing retro games.
Am I the only one who always thought is was pronounced "Wye Ess" when I was a kid?
I had been calling it Yiss for awhile.
Yes.
If you're gonna play this awesome game, play the TG-CD version...you're welcome.
My brothers and I called it "Y" "S". I think it's actually pronounced like "geese". But you pronounced Faxanadu right, so call it whatever you want.
ys 3 was a great game just hard
Whyse Three
eess / isu
Its "Eeeeeees", not "whyyys"
Isnt it pronounced "ease"
