    Keep in mind that in Starfield, the only place where your FPS is going to take a considerable hit is populated cities. In almost all other parts of the game you're going to see high to very high FPS (especially indoors or in caves, space stations etc.). So if you're getting around 50 FPS in cities, you're going to see upwards of 80 to 100 FPS in other parts of the game. My overall average is 115 to 125 FPS while only achieving high 65 FPS in cities.

      higher fps is definitely superior for smoothness on condition it’s consistent.
      Uncapped, some places I’m 120+ fps , others 72fps, one minute you games silky, next it’s juddery.
      50+ frames was a lot to lose and no amount of sync technology can mask that.
      Some moments it was almost like a slideshow outside in cydonia for me.
      We can also add on my computer sounded like an F22 raptor with full afterburner. It was HOT.
      I did find 60fps with keyboard and mouse also feels considerably worse than with a control pad.
      So I opted for 60fps, and control pad. Smooth, good temps, low noise.
      It made no sense to have it running on max.

    Honestly, the period where the RX6800 was heavily discounted was such an amazing time to upgrade. Even to this day, the RX7700XT is similarly priced to what I bought my RX6800 for here in Sweden, 9 months ago. And I still got more VRAM, less power draw, less heat. When giving the card a -100mV undervolt, it goes down to 120-140W... that's 6600XT territory and you barely loose performance. Amazing piece of hardware.

  • @misterbrickest
    @misterbrickest ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Still in love with my RX6800 16GB Absolutely the perfect high end card during the high GPU pricing towards the end. The 6800XT was always sold out or overpriced but I got mine at MSRP instead of a 3070. At the time when I made the purchase I was almost bummed out but was wary of only 8GB on a card that I would've had to pay over a THOUSAND DOLLLARS FOR. So at 50% of the price at that time, I still have DOUBLE VRAM today. It never gets old, having twice as much VRAM. Apparently having half the VRAM DID get old, pretty damn fast too.

      I find it very weird that Nvidia had apparently planned to make a 16GB version (which would have been called the 3070 ti), but then cancelled it, and then even the 4070 ti and 4070 were designed with only 12GB of vram as well, and they still made an 8GB version of the 4060 ti too.

    Hi Daniel. On the content creation side, the codec units in the RX 7000 series are 75% faster than the RX 6000 series in regards to h.264 footage in my testing with PugetBench for DaVinci Resolve Studio. If someone uses the card for both gaming and video editing, the 6800 XT may not be an optimal choice. I'll use the 7900 XTX and 7800 XT vs. 6800 XT example since I don't have the 7700 XT on hand.
    DaVinci Resolve Studio 4K H.264 Decode to H.264 Re-Encode
    6800 XT: 110 fps in Resolve Studio version 18.6
    7800 XT: 192.19 fps in Resolve Studio version 18.5.1
    7900 XTX: 192.09 fps in Resolve Studio version 18.6
    As you can see, the 7000 series cards I tested are 75% faster than the 6800 XT with that type of footage but the 7900 XTX is within the margin of error relative to the 7800 XT. That is to say that the differences are due to the new architecture rather than their relative clock speed or VRAM in that particular test. I haven't tested the 7700 XT but given that information, it would likely be closer to the 7800 XT than the 6800 XT in that respect.

      @@jesusbarrera6916 The 7800 XT has overall been faster in my video editing tests than the 4070 and the additional VRAM has been helpful when editing 8K. So no, unlike with 3D modeling applications, there is not currently an Nvidia advantage in video editing. Things changed a lot in the last year and which card is best for you personally depends a lot on which file formats you work most with and whether or not you do a lot of work in Fusion (either in Resolve or standalone) where the AMD cards have a major performance advantage.

    • @perlichtman1562
      @perlichtman1562 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I just realized I was vague about the advantage in the Fusion compositing module. 7800 XT scored 38% higher than the 4070 in that PugetBench section, 705 vs 510. The 4070 scored closer to the 3060 (465) than it did to the 7800 XT in that respect. My 4070 is great for my Blender work but for video editing, the 7800 XT is the one I prefer to use.
      The main issue that AMD had at the time of the 7800XT launch was that they had a different driver set for the 7700 and 7800 series from the 6800 XT and 7900 XTX, so I can't use it in dual card mode in Resolve like my other AMD and Nvidia cards right now.

You would be generally saving up on your electric bill while still getting a very reasonable working temperature with the 6800 if this is an average user case, though. I for one got an RX6800 maybe 5 months before 7700 XT released, so it feels rather good to feel like my purchase was justified. I wish AMD made a miniITX version of either card. 2 slot, 195mm or shorter. I’m looking at the 4060 basically as the most powerful card for my portable build.

      LoL no, there's a reason why is that big and is temps, cards get too hot.
      4000 series from Nvidia are reaaaally cool, they could do a 4070/4070ti low profile for sure.

    Does Immortals of Aveum Ultra preset use Lumen for reflections, ao, and shadows or just GI? Likewise, does the high preset in Layers of Fear use Lumen for more than GI? Just curious as I do not have either game.

    I've been following your videos for some weeks now and yesterday my RTX 4070 has died ... It was a superb card and RT in Cyberpunk 2077 looks great. But if I wanted to buy a new RTX 4070 now, I would pay 50 € more and for 600 € I do not find the price to performance really attractive anymore.
    Now I saw a new RX 6800 for 455 € and I think to myself, for my needs that could be absolutely enough and after I saw your video I'm actually tempted to buy it.

    6800 doesnt measure its complete power consumption, unlike 7700xt.

    Can you do 3070 ti vs 7700xt (they are the same price)

    • @really7187
      @really7187 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it even a contest? The 3070Ti only has 8Gb of vram. I would personally consider 12 GB the bare minimum when buying a new card in that price range.
      The 6800 is slightly faster then the 3070TI (not considering RT) , the 7700XT is about the same performance but has slightly better RT then the 6800, although I wonder how much you would see of that in practice.

    • @sorrowt.a.d.656
      @sorrowt.a.d.656 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@really7187 i agree with you,, but i was wondering in terms of rasterization how they stack with all the latest drivers in the latest games. I much prefer higher fps with lower graphics than lower fps with ultra graphics. I cannot play single player games in which in cant achive at least 90 fps at all times, i m very used to the constant 160+ fps of competitive games. Considering that you cant play modern games with decent graphics at 1440p with 1% lows that don’t dip into the 60 maybe even lower, i still consider these cards to be 1080p targeted. Taking into consideration the above, i d say that, even in todays games, 1080p with high and maybe some ultra settings, no rt is fine for 8gb of vram (these are what i believe most gamers would choose their settings to be for a single player game)

    Why no one talks about their clock speeds when they compare gpus? How do I know which 16gb vram vs 12gb vram is better? Im currently using msi mechx2 rx 6600 xt but currently looking to upgrade to match my 1440p much better, since 8gb vram is becoming left in the dust sooner and dont know if my my other monitor for 1080p will be future proof much further down the path.
