    Hello,
I am working on 3D printed boat, where i need movable hatch. I am seeing on your video that your hatch can be movable. Do you have any advice, about doing a hatch that can be movable like in your mechanism but when I 3D printed it.
    Thanks for the answer!

Great tutorial! VEry easy to understand! I only have one question, do objects need to be attached to be rigged? Or can i rig parented objects without having them attached to the main body of my ship?

you can rig them parented objects, but if that parent object moves, you are gonna have some funky as results

I liked the video and want to give a suggestion. Try to explain a little more what you are doing because I had to go back several times to actually get what you were doing. The video is great for an already experienced blender user but it is hard to understand for users that are new to this concept of armature

Rigging in Blender is much faster than in Maya I have found. I tend to use scaled B-Bones as controls on separate layers to the bones.

That little ship is really looking cool with the texturing you have added. Decals, I think you mentioned?

You got this. Start with small goals and then build yourself up.

I really wish someone could come up with a MORE user friendly way. Getting use to the steps can be troublesome.

For mechanical rigging what I do is make the separate components separate objects, you can then set up the individual pivot points where you want them and use that to make the rig, after which you can parent directly to the bone by putting your armature in pose mode, selecting an object in the outliner and selecting parent to bone.
