Quite possibly the most natural and authentic Christmas vlog I've watched this season - I absolutely love how close to nature you both are, and how much you enjoy the warmth you find in your community too. So easy to forget that Christmas is really about our fellow men as much as anything else. Wishing you every good thing for the coming New Year!
Many forces, especially marketing forces, in America try to define the Christmas season from Thanksgiving to the 25th. I try hard to enjoy the Advent season (the 4 weeks prior) and the old season of Christmastide (the 40 days after). Simpler, slower but the meaning, lights, and beauty of Christmas are a balm to the soul in the dark of winter. There is wisdom in many of the old ways. Personally, I adjust my decorations after the 25th. There is a family fun in the excess of decorations but for Christmastide, my wife and I distill it to a peaceful essence. The greenery, some lights, the Nativity, special family remembrances that bring joy and peace during many days when the weather restricts travel. Peace on earth and goodwill to all is still God's desire for us all.
Merry Christmas and Happy New year Sanna! I love Finland and north of Finland in particular. My family, friends and I spent many wonderful adventures there. I am originally from Russia, but I lived in Michigan USA for 25 years now. Interestingly Michigan is the place in the USA with a large Finnish community and the land itself is reminding me of Finland - many lakes, nature , snow, and the northern lights. Peace and prosperity to all people. We live in terrible time of wars and people suffering. My sincere wish for this to end and everybody stay warm and safe , surrounded by loved ones.
I am new to your channel and I am loving your videos, your home, and life and your wonderful heart! I am 62, and I was telling my family how the old traditions are going to die if we do not teach them to the younger generations. We have Norwegian ancestry and remember the beautiful traditional foods that were lovingly prepared. Lefse, rosettes, krumkage, Norwegian rice, and others were such a part of holiday tables. I'm so thankful for you just speaking this and living and sharing in your community. I am blessed by you. I pray that the true joy of Christ's birth will fill your heart and even though Christmas is over, we will savor that joy and bring it wherever we go. Sending you love and light.

Greetings from Brazil. Everything in your videos is amazing: the landscapes, the soundtracks, your comments on your daily life, your comfy farmhouse... Congratulations for the great work you're doing there. Looking forward for more and more videos. :)
Kaunis! I love your videos and your words. I lived in Finland for two years, when I was 19, and I miss it so much. Coming from the west coast of Canada to northern Finland was incredible, and I miss the landscapes, nature, and people daily. I hope to return there one day and spend more time in saunas and nature there. Suomi (Finland) is such a special place, and I think your mindset towards nature and how we should honour it is beautiful. I noticed that a lot with other Finns when I lived there, and it's incredibly refreshing to hear. I was told that Finns are the indigenous peoples of Europe, and your mindset towards nature reminds me of the mindset of Native Americans here, which is so much about being part of nature and not taking more than you need. It's so nice to see snippets of Finland again through your beautiful videos, and your knitting is just gorgeous! Thank you for sharing with us, and I hope you had a lovely Christmas. Kiitos paljon! Hali hali!
I believe respecting the Natural world is of the utmost importance…we take so much for granted…. Wishing you a Healthy, Peaceful and Prosperous 2024……Many Blessings ❤
Greetings, Terveiset! I am Finnish Canadian, both parents are Finnish and my father's family came from Finland. I have grown up with many of these traditions and it's wonderful to see it's alive and well! I have the traditional Christmas Eve sauna too :) My mother makes the ginger cookies and various delicious baking every year. All the best to you both for a great new year 2024 and beyond! You have a new follower here :)

Wonderful video Sanna! I agree by keeping our old traditions, once we lose them, they are gone. I have always been attracted to as they say, "the olden days", 1800's-1930's. I joke I was born too late (1961) in this world, but I keep my "inside world" as "olden" as I can. Thank you for such a wonderful video, stay healthy, enjoy a very peace filled New Year!
The positive size of TH-cam, is exactly this type of videos. From all over the world we are able to see how other people lives. That is nothing but a HUGE MIRACLE!!❤. Thank you. Keep doing a great job.👍🏻👍🏻🫶🏻🥰
Lovely video and I agree with you, we need to keep our traditions alive!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours and we wish you a peaceful, gentle New Year!!
I'm from Brazil, I really like Finland. I always wondered if I would find a TH-cam channel from someone from Finland, where he shows life in Finland in winter. But it happened because I managed to find your TH-cam channel. Sanna Vaara, I really like watching this type of film, because that way I can learn more and more about Finnish culture and that's fantastic for me. I wish you and everyone who reads this comment all the best in this new year.
Beautiful tree and lovely food for the gathering! Thank you for the reminder that we all have such abundance, yet we may forget to recognize that. It's an important practice to offer gratitude and honor Mother Earth for what she provides. Happy New Year from New Mexico, USA. You videos are so beautiful. Be well.
I think it is your beautiful soul that warmed the sauna as much as the fire. Thank you for this wonderful piece. Wishing you the joy, peace and ease of the season.🙏🏻❄️🎄⛄️
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦, Just found your channel recently and I absolutely love your videos. I love the scenery and the music and they are so peaceful to watch. You are such a ray of sunshine and Bapu is the cutest. Thank you for being you. Have a wonderful rest of your week. 🙂💕
Thank you for the Christmas wishes. While watching this I wondered what it would be like to live in such a cold environment with so much snow. Today we celebrated our son’s 49th birthday eating gumbo, hot rolls, rice and cake. We played corn hole outside and watched the grandchildren play football. The weather was beautiful as we enjoyed the outdoors. Our grandchildren dream of having snow at least once this winter. As a family we pray together and thank our Lord for all His many blessings. Our main Christmas tradition is going to church on Christmas eve, singing and worshipping our Lord Jesus as we celebrate His birth. Blessings to you and your family.
Thank you, nice reflections on the traditions of Christmas and the importance of appreciating the blessings we have. It's interesting how Nordic traditions surrounding Christmas are practiced around the world. Peace, light, warmth and all things good to you and yours! Happy New Year.
It is a big pleasure for me watching your videos. Thank you so much for showing us how you live and being so kind to us all. Merry christmas and a happy new year for you and your family! Lots of love ❤❤❤
Happy Christmas-season, Sanna! Thank you for showing us some of your traditions, and for your very wise words. I am loving watching your videos. Happy 2024 to you both, from me in the UK!
Greetings from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Here in the Kuperisaari we have many Finns and Saami. I went to school with people who had Finnish as their first language at home. We can easily relate to your videos.
Amazing video. I felt so good watching this preparation and a fire 🔥 in sauna was so peaceful. Greetings and all the best for you 😊🌲 your videos are so good and I am happy that you share your Nordic life more often ❤️
Sanna, I have only very recently found your videos. Thank you for sharing these very peaceful pieces of your life. I am enjoying the videos so much! Hyvää uuta vuotta!
I love this and the peacefulness of simplicity you show . Here in Australia we have what is a strange time because we are surrounded by Christmas paraphenalia as well as the idea that in 30 or 40 degreesC of heat we eat turkey, and roast vegetables while the ice cream melts and what is left has to be thrown out the next day? Crazy! My season will be of simple food and honoring being in a beautiful country while ignoring all the imported ideas that just don't work here.
Hei Sanna ! Aivan ihana kuvaus.
Dear Sanna, Thank you very much for this beautiful and lovely video. Very nice. And also thank you for your good wishes. It touches my heart a lot. ❤️🙏🏻 Best wishes from Germany 💫✨
I resonate with you so incredibly much🤍 I live in estonia, I just came back from my travels in Australia and Thailand and I’ve really grown to appreciate the local rhythm of nature, wherever you are. And sometimes I find it so hard to live the natural lifestyle because the world that’s been built is so far from it and I don’t always know how to survive in it 🥲 I love seeing your life and hope to see and hear more of it. You are creating something beautiful💚
This is so beautiful. I am from the USA and I have had such a better experience with winter since I started using more Nordic winter traditions during winter.
people took the time to write comments. That is a reflection of a good video. I gave an upvote. Remember to remind people to do that, to help the channel grow.
Thank you forthe video once again made so calm and beautiful. About Finnish traditions I use to follow Taivaannaula, which explains all about traditions for specail days like Christmas eve, Boxing Day
I'm actually glad how many Finns and people from Nordic countries comes back to their roots. Even if pagan religions are not your thing, coming close to nature and peace is something I find natural and beautiful. Our ancestors were in harmony with forests and lakes, that is something we should cherish and keep at our hearts.
Sending love back to you and yours Sanna. I really agree with your words. Connecting with the land, the nature spirits and our ancestors is something we should all value much more in our lives than we do. I’ve come to appreciate it all so much more these last few years. Wishing you a blessed Yuletide xx
Thank you for sharing your traditions. I agree with you we have so much it's time to be more grateful and appreciate everything in life. Have a wonderful winter ❤😊
Your Christmas message of enjoying peace and togetherness and , above all , gratitude for the things we already have has brought me to tears because of its simple humanity at this special time. Thank you.
Season greetings for you and your family. Here in Chile we're in summer. So our Christmas is warm and in some places hot as Chile is a very long country with desert up in the north and cold regions in the South near Antartica. Thank you for sharing your traditions. Happy New Year.🌻
Thank you so much for this video. I grew up with a more Nordic flavored Christmas. Unfortunately so much of that has been lost to life. A an incredible New Year.
I love youre beautiful home and i wish everyone could have such a calm and happy life like youres ,you are so blessed ,sending you bothe love and light from bantry bay ,west cork ,ireland ❤️🤗🙏🌲💚🇨🇮
Sanna, I think you would LOVE the addition of a Great Pyrenees to your little family! They are the sweetest breed towards people but fearless and fearless protectors against any beast including Grizzly Bears! Also,
Hello Sanna & thank you for putting me in such a calm, warm place sharing your nordic Christmas traditions. I played your vlog on a dark winter evening. It is beautiful to see how you & your husband embrace this time of year. Also appreciating your comment on how blessed we are to have the basics in life. There are so many people in need. Praying for a peaceful 2024. Thank you. I'm a new subscriber & look forward to more of your beautiful content.
Merry Christmas Sanna, what a beautiful video, your videos are always very pleasant to watch. I'm also a sourdough home baker and love to see your bakes and traditions. love from UK
Beautiful video, words and wisdom, it's so important to keep traditions alive, nostalgia is key to my heart. May 2024 keep your home fires burning bright. 😊🤗✨
Oh how I wish to live christmas in the way northern people does. I'm from Argentina, South America. Here Christmas it's VERY hot (like 38° Celcius degree) and because of that, saddly we can't bake anything. We eat cold meats and rolled beefs with creamy dressing, and a lot of diferents salads with vegetables and fruits and also do barbacues in the outdoors. The ones who have a pool in their houses sit on their christmas tables with swimwear and flip flops! (hilarious but comfy). Mostly we celebrate the night on 24th, and since like the majority of us decent from an European ancester (Italian or Spanish) we use to have a larger partys or reunions with all family and friens that we can gather and, of course, TONS of food and drinks (Fernet, Daikiris, Gin&Tonic, Caipirnhas etc.) and of course A LOT of dancefull music. Then we prepare the lunch of 25th, we don't care for the morning because ours partys in the night before are very cheerful and long, and also "Papá Noel" or Santa come to us at 00:00 of 25th, so the children can open they gifts in the night and go to the bed with they presents. The only tradition that survives the years and the weather it was to make the toast of 00:00 with a christmas bread (italian panettone) and apple cider, maybe you can find a praline nougat on a table but is not that common. The sweets that we eat are fruit salad, ice cream, chocolate dipped peanuts or raisins and the national dessert of christmas for us: MANTECOL (a sweet made of peanut flour, butter and honey - inspired on a greek dessert called halvá o chalwás). Your channel is absolutely lovelly, I love Finland and nordic culture because I used to do viking reenactment (yes, here in south américa) and I love Nightwish and especialy Tarja Turunen. Thanks for sharing ♥ big hugs from the other side of the world!
God Jul to you Sanna Vaara!!! Though this is late in coming. I have always loved and been fascinated with Scandinavian culture since I was a little girl, love the simplicity & traditions. Your sweet winters night gathering in hosting those in your village, how lovely and cozy ❤. I have always involved a sauna during winter months as well, a good cleanse, a treat for my soul & body. Another beautiful video, I look forward to another soon enough, keep making your sourdough, it is beautiful bread ❤. It's a couple days away from the New Year, wishing you a new and wonderful peaceful year 🕯️🌲🕊️🍲❄️
I appreciate your videos so much Sanna 💛 Happy New Year to both you and your partner and of course to Robert and Papu. I remember watching a movie when I was younger called “The Cuckoo” about the World War II, where a Russian and a Finish soldiers being both wounded by the enemy on the Finnish territory and a local Sami woman comes to their rescue by taking them to her house in the bush and taking care of them the whole winter with her knowledge and the resources she had available to her locally. That movie shows some of old traditions, food and wisdom of the Sami peoples in Lapland and their respect for Mother Nature.
Just love the niceness of your video. It’s has an amazing stillness about it. There’s no swearing, violence or shouting it is just a beautifully shot piece of art work. It has such a gentle calmness about it that is quite infectious! Merry Christmas ❤
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful video. I highly commend you for trying to honor and keep tradition alive. I so agree, today we have so much and we take things for granted. I love old traditions we miss out not keeping them.🥰
Just found your channel and love that you are following a traditional winter celebrations,it’s heartwarming and relaxing to watch, wishing you all a happy new year, take care and stay safe ❤️❤️❤️
Good morning Mrs Sanna, it's interesting to learn more about your traditions in this part of your country. Do you have more interesting traditional stories please 🙏 Thanks Greetings from Luxemburg 🇱🇺
You are so wise, and your voice is so soothing. Thank you for your holiday message. Even though it came to us later, it is good to have it throughout the year.
As a person who loves Christmas, this really created great, warm feeling after Christmas on January. Thank you for that🙏 have a happy new year and looking forward to see more of these beautiful and even meditative videos with peacuful rhytm😊
I thought you were Jonna Jinton because you look so similar to each other and your clothes, house and video style are exactly the same! Wow! Life in nature of the northern Emisphere must be very similar among the dwellers of the mountains! I love these videos but I wouldn't want to live there...I'd die without my Italian sun.
Hola otra vez Sanna!! Nuevamente me emocionante con el contenido de tu vídeo. Gracias por tu hermoso mensaje y por hacernos parte de tu vida. Qué siempre tus días estén llenos de luz. Felices fiestas, abrazos desde Argentina❤

Can we name a time without wars or rumors of wars? Constant vigilance is the price of peace and sometimes war is the price of continued existence.
What a simple but awesomely rich life. We love this peace and true life

And sometimes I find it so hard to live the natural lifestyle because the world that’s been built is so far from it and I don’t always know how to survive in it 🥲
I love seeing your life and hope to see and hear more of it.

It must smell so wonderful in there while the tree thaws.
Thank you so much for this video. I grew up with a more Nordic flavored Christmas. Unfortunately so much of that has been lost to life. A an incredible New Year.

Nice winter scenery. We don't live as far north as you. Our forests are mixed with oaks, pines and maple trees. Enjoy your videos.
I love old traditions we miss out not keeping them.🥰

beautiful scenery! You've created a magical life for yourselves, thanks for creating & posting these videos!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024 for you and your family❤ from Greece
