It doesn’t get much more ridiculous than the cancellation of the original Streets of Rage 4, which was supposed to be a Saturn title. It was canned by Sega of America’s CEO at the time when he spotted it on a list of upcoming games. Why? Because he *”had never heard of the series.”* Streets of Rage was one of the Sega Genesis’ most popular IPs, so how that doof had somehow missed it is anybody’s guess.
The thing that baffles me the most about Timesplitters cancellation is that almost every single FPS game that came out in that time claimed that they were "the greatest thing since the invention of sliced bread" and how they would revolutionise the gaming as a whole, despite being a carbon copy of Call of Duty with mandatory changes not to be sued for copying CoD. And here comes Timesplitters market team saying yo dev team ""Bro, this is too much innovation. You need to cancel it as it may scare of an average CoD-clone player"
Yeah. Something that comes to mind that I think would be cool, would be if the IP could be developed by the people behind the Borderlands games. Sure, it may wind up being a sort of Borderlands clone, but those are much more fun games than the more typical serious shooters. Really, Timesplitters is the spiritual ancestor of Borderlands. They were doing the snarky comedy FPS thing back in the days of the Gamecube era. I really think that they'd be a good team to modernize the Timesplitters franchise. And it's not like it couldn't still be set up as a sequel... Timesplitters 3 teased that possibility itself, by asking how we could be sure we'd ended the threat, if there's still Timesplitter playable characters...

Since Doom got mentioned, specifically a sequel to Doom 3, I wanna shout that game out. Everyone shouts out the two newest and absolutely amazing games, or the two fathers of the entire shooter genre on DOS, but I think Doom 3 doesn't get enough love. Yeah it was more of a horror game, and wasn't as fast paced as what came before or after, but it was a cool new and really dark (both figuratively and literally) take on the setting. It was the first Doom game that was arguably scary, like Hell should be. And I enjoyed it, A LOT, just like I enjoyed the other Doom stories before and after.
There's no version of Phil Fish's story where I'll even entertain the notion of pretending somebody else was also at fault. It was all him and only him. He complained about the constant negative comments against himself but he refused to improve as a person, instead lashing out to everyone for the smallest of things, which in turn made people's opinion of him get rightfully worse. And when called out on this behavior he did the ultimate childish move. He deserves nothing but scorn.
