Baldur's Gate 2 Monk solo part 37 : Firkraag the Red Dragon

  • This is why I like doing the Umar Hills before Windspear : The Ibrataha. With our , quite outstanding AC with the aditional 9 mirror imaged copies, I can assure you we can tank anything.
    I found it hilarious that the apprenti had a "Firkraag is still alive" script on but... I don't know if any mods adress the fact that some completionists like to kill dragons on sight.

      Cheating isn't really needed. I just completed a run through BG2 as a Berserker/Mage, 100% solo and no cheats/console/imports. Unless you consider reloading cheating. Demogorgon and the fight before him took the most retrys.

      Nudal well berserker/mage that is like the third strongest character in the game (i only say third to not trigger all the kensai/mage fanatics. Ber/mg is to me the second most powerful) it really hits like ten trucks while being almost unkillable. While mage/cleric is the ultimate buffmachine that doesn't even notice something tries to blow it to smithereens (and hits harder than a fighter in melee and still has ridiculous damage and utility) cleric/mage solo almost made the game boring after chapter three. Know how i dealt with the underdark? Got mordakainens (go to the duergar before turning drow) turned drow and simply snatched the dragon eggs from the temple. Just because fuck it. Battling all of ustnatha? Lets roll.

    Honestly, I would have said 'no-no' on the Summon Monster, but since they only really came into play right at the tail end...
    I'll give ya kudos on that. o3o
    Also, special thing to note to those playing this normally (I.E: no solo challenge, etc.), the one character I ended up finding really useful in this fight was Keldorn, oddly enough. However, having a Cavalier on the field wouldn't hurt either.

    • @Metalhammer1993
      @Metalhammer1993 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mistah Jenkins keldorn IS really useful and becomes op after that fight. Keldorn is key to every good aligned party for me. His dispel magic is FOUR TIMES STRONGER than normal dispel magic and even breaks irenicus defenses. (dispel works with half the casters level while Inquisitors works twice the Inquisitors level making that worthless level 3 abjuration spell the most broken in the game. Just keep your own party out of reach. In TOB keldorn strips down liches with just one cast)

    Kind of implausible that Gorion was powerful enough to injure Firkraag, a friggin dragon. Gorion was only a level 9 mage.

    If you don't care about his drops, which I did not, then Greater Malison and Disintegrate. Much like the Invisible/X-Zone trick of Final Fantasy III (SNES). Or you could wait to fight him until you have the Cloak of Mirroring (if memory serves). Let his offensive damage spells redirect while you're doin yer thang!

      @@YouWillNeverKnowMan there is other armor. And the sword has specific requirements. Also im a sword and board guy. There are better weapons. For example combo Keldorn with the answerer and the Crom Fayer if you dont like sword and board then have daystar on switch from the answerer

    • @YouWillNeverKnowMan
      @YouWillNeverKnowMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kNOwWHEREtoR1 Not a big shield fan. I do believe the Carsomyr is the best option for Keldorn. The dispel on strike is just broken. Plus, it hits anything in the game (and the 50% magic resistance is great!). The Daystar is good against undeads, but I always forget to equip monster-specific weapons in fights so for me it works better to have something that works well against anything. :D The Crom Faeyr is amazing, but you get it waaay later (one piece is in the Underdark if I am not mistaken) and it is good in the hands of any party member, no need to give it to good ol' Keldorn. For The Answerer we are talking mid ToB (and in ToB you can upgrade the Carsomyr if I am not mistaken). Anyway, I love that you can get such a powerful +5 weapon at the beginning of the game. Usually, right at the beginning of the game, I get the Staff of the Ram, the short sword +4 that can be bought at the Watcher's Keep, the Flail of Ages, the Carsomyr, the bow +3 with infinite arrows, and the Staff of Magi. With that, I essentially don't care about resistances right from the early stages of the game. ;-)
      I love that you seem to have a very different playstyle though. It is unbelievable that a game is able to accommodate such diversity.
      Unrelated question: what do you think about BG3 (or should I say DOS 3 :p)? The game looks good and all but it does not feel like a BG game whatsoever. Oh well, at least I got Pillars of Eternity 1 as a dessert...

    • @kNOwWHEREtoR1
      @kNOwWHEREtoR1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@YouWillNeverKnowMan a plus 5 weapon that dispels on hit IS nice theres no doubt about it. And yes it comes down to preference of course. For me having extra AC since he was my front line made more sense combined with so many decent weapons and strength buff options early on. For dispelling I just used Keldorns class ability. Admittedly not as powerful or as quick as the spell feature but dispel is usual an aoe instead of single target as with Holy Avenger. Yes the other items I mentioned are later items so the Holy Avenger IS a good option early on. But that fight isnt easy. Unless you use greater malison and disintegrate. From an RP stand point I cant image a better passive aggressive way to tell Firkraag to F off. From a meta game pov theres a wish spell for armor that is just as good and if you love the holy Avenger theres a 1 hand version in the game as well. Honestly the Sword IS cool I just have as you say a different play style. And I wanted to walk through Firkraag. Now if he held a quest item i might have gone a different way depending on what that item was. Anyways its nice to acually debate instead of troll with someone. You have your pov which you helped me to understand and hopefully i helped you understand mine. My goal was only that. Not to change your mind. As for BG 3. Its a great looking game though its still in early access. There are annoyances for me with the game window and UI right now and im not very optimistic they will improve. Its nice to see 5e rules but some of the checks seem wonky. Theyre either not showing your skill bonuses or only showing your raw check rolls which I dont care for. Mechanically they do not have all class options yet either. Story wise it feels like a 2nd game in a trilogy especially with creatures so powerful right off the bat. So Id say I like it but would like to see some UI and minor mechanical changes. It had great bones and some decent meat to it. Just needs polish.
