Not saying this happened to you but sometimes horses will be sedated when you first try them to get you to buy them. I hope Affie gets better soon, or you can find another ❤ horse that is better suited to you and your goals. Glad you quit your job - shift work is so unhealthy. Wishing you all the best. Really enjoy your channel.
Yes this happened to me too I ended up having a nightmare of a horse for 3 years (I couldn’t have sold him the way he was even though I wanted to..) he came good after a LOT of time and work but I feel I never got over it personally lmao I am so hesitant to ever buy again I will only lease ahaha I’m traumatised
I would not feel bad about returning a horse that is unsafe or chronically unsound. It is not our responsibility to “fix” these horses, spend large amounts of money and keep them for years when they are sold in an untruthful way, especially as novice or amateur riders. Could result in serious injury to the rider, just not worth it IMHO. That being said, I do hope things work out for Han and Affie.
Please don’t even feel like you need to apologise for being chatty Han - we love hearing about you and the horses! Sometimes vlogs like this feel a bit like FaceTime with an old friend, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who loves it Also: sending tonnes of good luck and healing vibes for Affie. I hope you manage to find out what’s bothering her, and then make a plan for how to keep her happy and healthy 💕💕💕
I know exactly what you mean about “that feeling” you only get with a certain horse! I’ve often thought how much easier it would be if I just bought an older horse that knew its job, but the feeling I get with each tiny milestone with Minty is incomparable! 🥰 Here’s hoping you get your little ❤️ horse sound and well again soooon 🙏🤞🍀
Thanks Han. I hope it’s good news from the vet and that you can at least start some ground work with Affie and you can start getting her fit again. Have a lovely holiday xx
I don't mind chatty. Are you sure she wasn't drugged when you tried her? I bought a 6 yo show jumper many years ago, and she was perfect when I tried her, so calm and rideable. But when I got her home it was like she was schitzophrenic one day she was calm-ish, the next she would only canter sideways. When she was calm she would still buck me off into the indoor school wall on a regular.... I can't prove it, but she was definitely drugged.
Oh man have been here and it is tough! Love that you took the time to explain it all and so hope for all the best for you and Affie❤️. Every horse teaches us something, good or bad. Wish you will Hannah!
You are on quite a journey with your horses. Best of luck with Affie. She is a lovely looking pony and shows great potential. As for your hand......get some comfrey on it. Bet there is some growing near your stables. A few leaves in warm water then make a poultice. It will bring out the bruising and heal the sprain. Perfect for horse sprains, abscesses etc. Good luck.
I bought my daugter her 1st pony (12.2hh mare) 4 years ago and the pony has spent more time out of work, than in work. I believe she was sedated or given some kind of calmer when we went to view her because she was a completely different pony once we actually got her. It seems to be one step forward and 3 steps back with her soundness. When we think we are getting somewhere, we have a week of like wow we did it, and then shes lame again. We have spent thousands upon thousands at the vets, the farrier comes 4 weekly, body workers, supplements. You name it and its hard not to feel disheartened. She will be with us for life, whether shes in work or not. But I cant help but feel disappointed. Its really knocked my daughters confidence, due to bucking etc 🫠
Love the chatty vlog! Keeping everything crossed for next vet visit and you soon get some answers and a plan of action! Good luck on the new career path….. has Affie moved yards?
That’s a tough one and so frustrating - you have persevered for so long the fact she is so young is in your favour - good luck Han I hope she comes good in the future 😊
Fab vlog!!!! Not sure if anywhere close to you but there’s a Huntertrial at Kelsall Hill on the 21st, I’m going to that and they are doing a 70cm pairs- not sure of any other heights x
Haha got a feeling I’m going to have less time than before with freelancing. However won’t have to do shift work at all which will be lovely! Thank you x
If she’s your heart than you know that something wrong but Hans I watched you on Megan channel I thought Dora was just kidding hope all’s well with her glad to hear that you blarched out on your own so proud of you miss seeing you with Megan you have me in fits of laughter I didn’t know who was oh trouble you or Meg ❤you Han take care
Love your personality Han and super excited to follow your journey! Just a small tip from professional editor ❤When cutting a clip with sound, if you overlap the audio of the two clips slightly and fade out the ends of each (only a couple frames), it creates really smooth transitions. I don't mean this as a criticism! Only a supportive tip from a fellow creative ☺
Try look into equine granulosa cell tumours, they are extremely common in mares and it increases hormone levels during cycles, so one minute they can be easy, next minute coookoo x
Arabs & Arab crosses I've found need and want a deep connection with their rider. Not saying that you don't. I'm guessing that Affie is still immature in her head. She's not sure what she wants or needs. With the Arab crosses I've had (now my 4th, a Dutch Warmblood x Spanish Arab) the Arab Fire is often front and centre. That's what we connect with and love: Their love of freedom and the Spirit of Life. So my bonding efforts are spending lots of time with them between riding. Hanging out with them as the big dog of my yard. The difficulty is of coarse, Time. Just sitting on a bucket in their stable or pasture as they're munching down their dinner/breakfast/tea. Have them following you on a walk around the pasture or a long casual hike in hand. The fact that she had several owners before might be some of it. She is still young and you love her and want the bond she will come around and trust you. Time, patience and trust. I'm in your corner cheering you both on. Stay safe. 💙🐎😎
I really hope it all works out with Affie. You could see if you can find a horsemanship type trainer to work with her and you for a couple of months, obviously after you’ve cleared the lameness issues? I’d also have her checked for ulcers if the vet hasn’t already. Good luck, she’s a beautiful pony and you obviously love and care about her.
Not a vet, just took care of horses for a long time. A lot of her behavior looks like heat cycle behavior. The squealing, the bucking for no reason, the kicking out, the girl fights, miss behaving when she can't see the others. Have you considered breeding her since you can't ride her right now? Some mares when in heat reject a rider because their nature is to stand still when a stallion mounts them. To not move when the forelegs are around their belly. A human wraps their legs around their belly and asks them to move forward. They get confused and lash out. She can't help the way she reacts.
Could you put her in foal to a Connie or other nice large pony stud while she recovers if the vet says it is ok? You could breed your own dream pony that way like Meg does. She is so lovely.
I would absolutely love to but i think it would be a very irresponsible decision. We don’t know what’s wrong with her and why she’s lame, could be genetic. She’s also a very difficult horse on the ground, as much as I love her she probably wouldn’t produce a sweet foal x

Sounds very plausible based on what Hans said but then again there's lots we don't know

That’s shocking

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this! X
@Nohorsehan 😊 I think it's admirable how positive you have remained. I can definitely sympathize with what you are going though.
Good morning from Australia. It's 5.35am. Fingers crossed for Affie.

Aggie’s already been treated for ulcers.
Affie! Flipping auto-incorrect.
So glad you’ve decided to start vlogging 😁 have you tried getting a second opinion?
Thank you! Yes everything gets sent to an equine hospital to get there opinions as well as my vets before we do anything x
Another allergic to horses Han here! Agree with other comments, sounds like she could’ve been sedated. She’s very lucky to have you ❤
I’m also allergic to my animals ! Horses, dogs etc x

Sometimes if a youngster has had more than 2 homes before the age of 4 it can be a red flag. Not always but sometimes x

Anyone who says they dont like arabs is insane. They are the best.
Everyone saying affie could have been drugged which is true but dont underestimate what an intense work schedule will do either. I.e 2x a day working.
