I bought my MK6 GTI off the showroom floor, 12 years ago. Most cars I’ve owned, I’ve only kept 3 years, 4 years at the most. I like to trade up, but I’ve been so happy with my GTI, I couldn’t think of trading for a MK7 or MK8. The MK6 is one of the best looking in my opinion. Admittedly, I’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars upgrading mine over the years. I know the new platform is more powerful and easier to mod, but I still can’t get past the looks. I’ll be keeping my GTX2867R equipped MK6 until the wheels fall off. My GTI gets more looks and attention than my 911.
Glad to see you’re posting more content again, Matt. Keep up with the great videos!

Bought my 2012 MK6 new as well, been my only car since then. Running APR K04 and 125k miles. Feel exactly the same as you. I looked at new cars and then decided to just put coil overs, sway bars, mounts, braces, and bushings on the MK6.

My opinion the mk6 is a flawless looking car, however if we are talking about the things that usually fail, like the timing chain tensoners, aux water pump, water pump, pvc valve i have had those problems but once you have those problems ive learned the hard way dont buy cheap stuff, but the more expensive items from urotuning, ecs tuning, modded euros and stuff thats has built a name for themselfs, and the pvc valve i went thru the stock one and a aftermarket one and then decided to get the cts turbo catch can and more issues but to empty the can and usually if you tune the car you usually go thru ignition coils like crazy so i recommend buying a little higher grade or aftermarket but after ive done the repairs and aftermarket items the car has lasted with basically no issues since coming from someone who owned a mk6 gti for 2 in a half years now

I love the styling cues on the MK6, especially, the R. I am dealing with a timing chain issue, again.. I had it replaced over 4 years ago, I believe there was a class action suit going on, or a recall, and got it done for free. Not so lucky this time. I am not sure I want to keep dumping money into it at this point. But I read in the comments the the issues with the MK6 carry over to the 7, lol! FML
Can anyone tell me about the gearbox on a MK7 mani? Gear ratio, and shifts. I know the clutch depends on the driver. I am thinking of buying a MK7, but, want a 2 door. So which would be better, the 2016, or 17? Any substantial differences? Thanks in advance

As a MK7 owner, the water pump/thermostat issues are still a thing. VW just doesn't make good water pumps 😂. Make sure to also get the latest revision of the waterpump available.... there are many.... Carbon buildup in the intake manifold is also an issue (a general issue on direct injection platforms). I have not experienced it much because I'm just at 60,000km but it's something to look out for. I notice your coil packs are upgraded (typically a mod that's recommended on the mk7 for reliability/misfiring issues, especially when tuned ), had to do mine as well (OEM RS3 coil packs). Both lovely cars and once you keep on top of maintenance they'll be hard to let go...

    • @Matt_Pie
