He wasn't the only one Mickey Thomas from Starship I think is every bit as good as Steve Perry and in some ways even better don't get me wrong I love Steve Perry's voice he's one of my favorites but I also like Mickey Thomas I've seen like both of them I personally think they're both pretty equal but I think that Mickey Thomas might be just a little bit better at this age right now currently back in the day they pry or equal right now I think this age group I would probably take a little bit, cuz he kept his voice in better shape

Absolutely agree! He's unassuming and so "down to Earth." I watched a CBS Sunday Morning™ interview with Steve Perry & 1 thing that really stood out was that he said, "I always felt like an outsider"
(in Journey) and like he was always the "new guy" and didn't fit in. Neal Schon, however, OMG! Well let's just say that humility would not accurately describe Neal😮

I don’t think he’s underrated at all. He’s widely recognized as one of the all time greatest voices in rock. Most people think the new guy is fine but we all agree he’s not as good as Perry. He’s in the R&R HOF. His songs are celebrated around the world and EVERYONE in the bar sings along when they come on the jukebox.
Exactly what else would you like in order for him to be properly rated?

@@morelife6508All artists are usually inspired by previous artists.
But he was a countertenor and an Altino which is a rare voice - you are born with it or you aren’t.
His voice range was higher than Sam Cooke’s. He has hit C6 - extraordinary!! He could also sing with a raspy voice like Otis Redding if he chose. Sam Cooke did not ever sing with a raspy voice. I grew up in the Sixties and was a huge soul music/ Motown fan. As was Steve Perry.
Check out Bob Fosse - you’ll see Michael Jackson.

At 11 years old in 1981 our family went to either Woolworths or Woolco (can't remember which one) but, my brother came up to our mom and asked if he could get this album (Joan Jett) she said yes.
I asked if I could get one too, she said yes. I went over to the record section and started looking and found, what I thought was incredible album artwork. Not knowing anything about it, I had picked up Journey Escape and that was what I got..................turned out to be my favorite band!

This is a great interview with Steve Perry the voice the one we all have been waiting for for many many years! I like it when he talks about his grandfather and does his accent, I can just picture his grandfather through Steve Perry's eyes and soul. He also must have been a good person like his mother and Steve. Would love to hear more about his upbringing with his grandparents. I never got to experience my grandparents because they all had died before I was born. The Portuguese that he speaks is also so cool. Would love to hear Steve sing in Portuguese. I bet it is beutiful!

His grandmother taught him how to speak Portugese. Idk how much time they were around Steve, but I do know he was very close to his mom and his granparents. His mom cultivated his vocal talent since he was a kid, his church taught him music and the technicals. That's all I know.

bet it IS 1 I went to the Acores island of Terceira with gal I attended high school with. (Olinda Diaz). She went back home and I tagged along, spending 3 months with her family, with whom I turned 21!!! We had a WILD party, even though Olinda and I were the only two of many whom spoke English! It was So much pure FUN, when I played the "bull" charging the "matador" (spoke no English) with his cape!!!! These folks were (are) the "real deal" and made my stay so precious! It was so cold and damp that Olinda and I cuddled in the same bed under MANY blankets trying to be warm (no dirty thoughts now)! The home made Strawberry wine and Anise (still lover licorice wine) helped immensely!! One "gross" memory is of Olinda's Dad eating the skin off boiled chicken feet, a ":talent" I did not acquire.Portuguese folks were many around Tulare/Visalia, hard workers, dairy farmers mostly and very giving! Wonder if Olinda's family is still in the Valley: many gone and the kids did not want the taxes and hard work!!! I am very Proud of Devin Nunes, Congressman! His father, Dennis, was in my class...he raised a great son!!!! Be so NEAT meeting you Steve.....Oh...my Portuguese is :"maluca la cabesa"
      (mispelled).

Man, Steve Perry still remains the perfect celebrity. Watching and listening to recent interviews, he's still very approachable and down to earth. He's still got a sense of humor about it all, he doesn't bottle everything up, not really. He does share a lot of information, just not everything all at once.
He's not just being good for the cameras or for the publicity, I don't think. He really strikes up a conversation, or at least he does now that he's more confident about it. Back in the day when he was still touring with Journey, things might have been different. But right now... he just seems like a real pleasure to talk to, to interview.
I hope I'm like that when I'm 70 years old.
