@@RighteousBrother but punk was an offshoot of rock..in England in the late 70's early 80's ..most heavy metal hard rock fans were also into punk music. The two genres got on together at gigs etc.. i know because i was part of it. The punk rebellion was anti everything before it...but the music was just a re hash of rock..but more grass roots. It was the established British bands like yes genesis pink floyd deep purple etc. that punk was against..not American bands.
I read Pauls book and I really didn't know about his lack of hearing and many other things he talked about. Very candid guy and a massive influence in my musical development. Thanks to both of these gentlemen.
I was in a band in the 90s. We had so much fun but, looking back, we did almost everything wrong. Getting signed to a label made us think we knew more than we did. I regret all we did wrong but you learn and get better at life, keep going.
Yeah I knew a local band that got signed. Didn't last past the first album. But two members went on to good writing and producing careers. Don't know what happened to the others.
Was a HUGE KISS fan once upon a time, but it's all business, and has been for a LONG time. He sounds laid back and humble here, I agree. But it's about BRAND and BRANDING, and NO ONE knows that better than PS and GS.
BUDDY! EVERY BAND IS ALL BUSINESS! The industry resentment towards KISS was for thier not trying to hide it. The "Rock industry" had worked really hard to distract and train the public away from its corporate "business as usual" money making ways. KISS came along and said "Fuck that, let's just let Rock N'Roll be what it is" they didn't try and hold up the pretense that they were starving artist, or ashamed to make money. Make no mistake, aside from the Sex Pistols they were the single most threatening act to the established music industry. Why do you think Roling Stone (The #1 source for B.S Rock propaganda "We aren't a business" "we are playing for cultural change and artistic integrity") hated them so much? The blew the doors off the fiscal facade while the pistols blew the doors of the old archretypes. Y'know, that would have been a hell of a show the Sex Pistols and KISS, funny thing is, the bands don't really sound that diffwerent , they played essentially the same style of music.
I'm not some blind KISS maniac who obsesses over the band. Over the years, I've seen the original lineup, the no makeup lineup with Kulick, and the new band with Tommy & Eric. The original lineup show was incredible (the re-union tour) - I was definitely seeing KISS. The no-makeup show in Philly was only about half-full, (this was when they has the big Sphinx head as a set backdrop) but they definitely rocked, and I still felt that I was seeing KISS doing something different. The new band, which I saw here in Japan - for me it was not great and not something I'd pay for again, not trying to diss them but that's how it was for me. With all that said, I give Gene and Paul total respect for their 40+ year career. I appreciate them and wish them the best going forward. Final thought: ACE !!! Fkn Ace baby, that's where the soul of KISS is!!! Ace is one of the coolest MF'ers in Rock, he's up there close to Keith Richards territory as a Rock n' Roller.

This is a great interview. It's a cool one cause back in the day, you were either a Kiss fan or a Pistols fan, and it was like an undeclared war between the two factions of fans. It wasn't until around '85 or so when it was ok to like both scenes, and we can thank bands like Metallica, DRI, COC, Raw Power, Slayer, Anthrax and many others for that. I was a huge Kiss fan back in the mid to late 70's, then aroound 77 - 78 I heard Never Mind The Bollocks.....and was very impressed. Then I saw the Ramones on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and was blown away at how they sounded. After reading for a year or so prior to hearing those 2 bands how the punk bands were just noise and spitting and vomiting, I thought just the opposite, they were great, guitar based rock and roll bands who had just as much to offer as the hard rock bands of the time. I remember seeing an interview with Joe Perry who was one of the hard rock guys who "got it" when the punk bands showed up and took it the right way and wasn't threatened by the punk bands but rather saw it for what it was, a reaction against the bloated rock scene of the time and not a direct attack on all bands from that era. And now, 40 years on, here's 2 of the more iconic figures from each scene having a chat on Steve Jones' radio show.....really cool. Cheers to both of them for changing my life for the better all those years ago.
No doubt that Paul Stanley is Kiss... been a fan since '76 when I bought (my favorite album) 'Rock and Roll Over' - all that aside, from a veteran, God Bless him for supporting the military and first responders...
Paul is a very intelligent, composed and astute person. I'd love to spend time with him. No wonder Kiss has continued to exist in it's various reincarnations. However, I think he needs to have a little heart-to-heart about his son's band.
@@Lab-Rat - Ace and Peter didn't make KISS. Paul and Gene's dedication and hard work pushed KISS to make it. Too bad Ace and Peter didn't have the same work ethic
I was born in 1974, the year that they introduced their self-titled introduction. Then I grew up in a roller rink, so everything I did, anywhere I went, KISS joined us. More than feeling like part of the band, or like I dealt with them in person (though I have seen them live), KISS wrote what feels like the "theme song" to my life, since their music is in so many of my memories both growing up & as an adult.
Paul Stanley discusses his love for Roy Wood. It seems to be a common theme in rock music where fans of a particular group will love those artists, while disrepecting, or just plain not caring, about the artists who influenced their idols. I tell people all the time: have an open-mind about music and understand why your hero loves their heroes. They may just become your heroes, too
Thanks for the shout out and what KISS does for the military and first responders. ..Great man Paul Stanley. Good story of the early days of taking amplifier boxes, with nothing in them, to make the band look bigger in the beginning. When others were in the clubs, KISS was rehearsing in the early days - lesson to be learned for your artists.
Paul is a really intelligent and well spoken humble guy. Wrote some great iconic songs. Its cool these guys are still kicking it in their 60's. Also a real Patriot.
Paul Stanley...Thank you for supporting my Brothers and Sisters. We Serve because we care about our country and about our people. Saluting the Flag in Uniform has a very deep meaning to us. No matter what may be happening here, you can be assured that there are good people standing the watch so that all of us can be Free.
Great interview. What a whirlwind those early years must have been for the four guys. The characters and the stage show were a brilliant idea. It took quite a work ethic to keep that band in business all these years. Took a lot of guts for Paul and Gene to walk away from a record deal to form Kiss.
Paul is the reason that kiss is still around in the late 80’s and even into 1990 Gene was worried more about making movies then being in a band and Paul really took the band by the horns and made sure that they were were still moving forward and although he was not happy with all of the results having to fill in for Gene when he was not there to record new material or shoot sn interview or redo some of his takes for the new album Paul did what he had to to keep the band relevant and run the day to day operations when he could have said screw it I have my Millions I will just kick back until Gene wants to hold up his end! He knew the best thing was to keep moving forward fill in what gapes needed to be filled and write and produce as many songs by his self to complete the next record. By the time it came to make Revenge Gene was back and n Knew he had blown it and as a band they all put there heart and soul into Revenge which is my favorite album and. Huge hit for kids Putting them back on top again. Paul says it best Gene make’s Paul better and Paul makes Gene better and together they are unstoppable!

Pretty amazing that back in '77 these two wouldn't be caught dead in the same room together, yet here they are, not only getting along, but bonding.
RTHA300 This dude?
Sex pistols very rock and roll.
Agreed! Different times back then. Good to see them sharing experiences.
RTHA300 - because the interviewer is Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols, which at the time were the antithesis of Kiss.
Paul does a great job of articulating and is clearly a great fan of music. Great conversation.
Nice interview. Paul was nice in this one. Luv that Jonesy.
he has an annoying voice
@@tulllguy It's a Jewish/New York accent.
I meant Jonesy, not Stanley.
.Nobody worked harder than Kiss...many people have stated this emphatically...this point is not debatable.
Except Cheap Trick, they tour every year all year but for 2-3 months a year.
The list goes on, Uriah Heep tours intensly too,
I was in a band in the 90s.
He seems a really interesting and humble man, I always respected Kiss and admired their songwriting.
What a great guy. Always an inspiration!
Wow, really enjoyed this interview!
Got to love Jonesy. Great interviews.
I’m impressed with Paul’s music knowledge.
Was a HUGE KISS fan once upon a time, but it's all business, and has been for a LONG time.
He sounds laid back and humble here, I agree. But it's about BRAND and BRANDING, and NO ONE knows that better than PS and GS.
He isnt.
""""""Ace baby, that's where the soul of KISS is!!! """"" AMEN........the smoking lead on "" I stole your love"" live.....made me want to play drums in 76......
Paul stanley...greatest rockstar ever.
MAD RESPECT for #PAULSTANLEY🥰💋
I had no idea what a classy, decent, thoughtful, patriotic, military honoring man he is!!
WOW❣✌😎 Cool dude, PS
I like you more right now than ever before~💫💫💫
Great interview as ever by Jonesy, many thanks for sharing
We need Jonesy back on KLOS. Give that man a contract!
What a refreshing conversation. Thanks Paul and continue with your good Karma 👍🙏
Wish I still had my prism KISS belt buckle.
Still got mine!
Those things were awesome
I still have mine.
Diffraction grating!!!aerosmith made one too
@@timpenfield5 f yeah they were!
Great interview. So much more authentic than most interviews I've seen with Paul. Both of'em are very reflected.
Legend! Paul is such a great guy
Yeah, Ace & Peter were there when you made it big. I'm old enough to remember that.
So?
Brian Reed
So they made them
@@Lab-Rat - Ace and Peter didn't make KISS. Paul and Gene's dedication and hard work pushed KISS to make it. Too bad Ace and Peter didn't have the same work ethic
Well Paul Stanley is douchebag, I think he's proved that over and over.
NO ACE... NO KISS....
fuck these cunts
Love the Move, Roy Wood and Cheap Trick Tie in!
This is the best interview I've heard with Paul. I had no idea he was so thoughtful.
Wow, Paul's philanthropy is certainly commendable. Right On 👍
Paul has an intelligent, humble, interesting tone of voice. He is not a donkey.
Such a pleasant interview. Nice paced back and forth.
They may just become your heroes, too
Two legends. Brilliant
I love Paul's respect for British bands. We love American artists too! Iain
Humility looks good on Paul
paul stanley and steve jones . two very different of my youth heroes and reasons i play in the same room. i think i've seen it all. thanks God.
Paul is a really intelligent and well spoken humble guy. Wrote some great iconic songs. Its cool these guys are still kicking it in their 60's. Also a real Patriot.
"Humble" is about the last word I´d associate with Paul.
Paul is an amazing talent !
If he'd stopped at 1980 maybe he wouldn't be so terrible.
@@morbidmanmusic What are you talking about. 1988-1996 was his strongest period vocally 100000%.
One of the best interviews.
Two of my favorite musicians just having a conversation. Great stuff!
Free to bully the entire world.
Great interview. What a whirlwind those early years must have been for the four guys. The characters and the stage show were a brilliant idea. It took quite a work ethic to keep that band in business all these years. Took a lot of guts for Paul and Gene to walk away from a record deal to form Kiss.
I was at the "Toronto" show. it was actually
100+miles north of Toronto. Everywhere in Ontario is Toronto to most Americans. lol
Gene does play the disco sounding bass in I Was Made For Loving You. Listening to the song realizing it's not a synth gives it more cred.
Jonesy is a great interviewer . Bravo !
I never liked Kiss, didn't know much about any of them and I'm surprised how much I like Paul Stanley!!
Love Paul’s mention of the military
By the time it came to make Revenge Gene was back and n
Knew he had blown it and as a band they all put there heart and soul into Revenge which is my favorite album and. Huge hit for kids Putting them back on top again. Paul says it best Gene make’s Paul better and Paul makes Gene better and together they are unstoppable!
Jonesy.... does the best interviews
Since he was such a terrible musician he was bound to be good at something.
@@chrischoir3594 terrible musician, legendary riffs to one of the greatest ever punk bands and best debut album of all time..he's just very humble and has no ego about it
@@shep751 being in the greatest punk band, is that similar to being in the best circus act?
check out SJ’s instagram page...he’s far from a terrible musician! not only is he a terrific guitarist, he’s quite the crooner, too✌️
@@chrischoir3594 Not if it influences other genres and continues still today.. Malcolm Maclaren tried to turn the pistols into a circus act which they hated.. It just worked the very brief time they were together. Punk is not spikey hair or ripped shirt with safety pins.. It's a DIY way of life and spirit..kiss are more of a circus, easy to parody but not taken seriously musically, more like entertainment, and a massive selling merchandise empire... Couple of decent tunes but each to their own I suppose
Jonesy really does have a great show!!! I watch all of em. Great job Jonesy!!
"If someone wanted to open a KISS restaurant, I'd want nothing to do with it". This is a big difference between Paul and Gene.
Cheetah Thunders Gene would get horny at the idea of a kiss resturant with overpriced food and a gift shop.
Yet a Kiss coffeehouse is ok?
Horseshit, Stanley would have no problem with it. Stanley and Simmons are the same guy, the only real difference is their body weights and wigs. At least Simmons is sorta open about his own money grubbing ways. Stanley pretends he's above it.
But Stanley wants to money grub through the music, big difference.
Bullshit. A book? An arena football team? Do I really need to go on?
i work for kiss at the arena geneve ! great showmen ! good stage act ! busy during the show! good work thanks to them .you have to live it to believe ! njoylife
I always really liked I Was Made For Loving You.
Hell yeah! KISS should have made a disco album.
LOL
Lick it up
My favorite Paul interview by far.
I do not know how stanley is as a person, but as a few frontmam he excels and that matters to me
Paul one of the nicest people in music... good one Jonesy !
"Everybody's listening to John Denver and your jumping around in platform boots." ~Paul Stanley Lol!
