I pre-ordered this box today as a Van Saar player and someone who is interested in the Malstrain models. Necromunda might honestly be my favourite system GW does, some of the rules are identical to old 2nd/3rd edition rules (we still have blasts with scatter dice and templates!) and the whole vibe is very much more like GW used to be in the late 90s/early 00s with lots of flavour. Also, Necromunda gets the best models without question - that Malstrain Corrupted Tech Priest is a thing of beauty.
Thanks for the review Andy! This box is pretty much a wishlist item for myself and one of my gaming buddies. We were sitting around talking about how we wanted a game we could play with two players, with Van Saar and Genestealers with only one book, because normal Necromunda has major book bloat and we have a few guys in our gaming group who are too competitive to really play it the proper way. Then a couple weeks later they announced this. Really happy they are making what is essentially a self contained game that doesn't need a mountain of terrain, a special sized table, or a group of 10 like-minded individuals to enjoy this game (which is my opinion has the best core rules of GW games). Also it seems that just getting the upcoming Book of Desolation you can pretty easily expand the Underhells Campaign system to include more players.
The fact Van Saar get a whole bunch of options that other gangs may have to wait years for their equivalent (possibly Forge World) just drives me nuts. Delaque still don't have a vehicle kit for Ash Wastes and may never get one. The release schedule and janky rules means there is always never a great point to jump into the game.
They gave rules to custom build vehicles.. Personally I have several 3d printers and lots of dark and SciFi Vehicle stl options so I don't care.. If GW doesn't like my money all the better for me really.
I want this set so bad, but I’m looking at my Ash Wastes box sitting unopened on my “”shelf of unrealized potential” and know that I have far too many projects already in the pipeline.
Hell yea, Love me some Necromunda coverage. Pls keep it coming. I'm super interested in the setting, but have been a bit overwhelmed with all the books and boxes and don't know where to start. So this is perfect
Yep, I really got the impression that this was more of a stand-alone intro style product. A self contained, one box, game, rather than an expansion for the whole system.
I cannot recommend enough finding your local Hive Scum at a gaming group and getting in that way. The rules are massive, broken and over whelming so having an experienced player guide you is so much easier. There is a link to a free compile of the rules on the 40k forbidden rules site homepage, dealing with the published rules is madness at this point.
The thing is, i play necromunda already, so if you don't have all the list: dices, any terrain, cardboard, templates, band of genestealers and van saar, i think this box is for you. Or if you own shop/run necromunda campaigns for other people Also this box is hard to split 50/50. If you just want new guys wait for their own box release.
Thanks for this video. Meeting some folks at my LGS Sunday for a demo. Necromunda seems right up my alley. Casual friendly, low model count, campaign driven can’t wait!
When I was a kid, I used to 'play' Confrontation with my mate. I used to love the details of the weapons/actions, etc. I'd like to get this to play with the kids, one day, if it's still around - at this exact time, though, recent/impending releases have sucked my gaming capital/reserves dry.
Expecting mine at the end of the week, I have 3 box sets and a bunch of books, various gangs and no-one to play with so maybe this will help me get my son into the game. I do think that GW missed a trick on this one and should have made it a Warhammer Quest game - tiles, solo play and cool minis (which Necromunda always has) and it would have increased the player base tenfold as long as they didn't pull a Cursed City.
Interesting, didn’t know you could integrate other gangs into the game. I had certainly somehow gotten the impression that this was almost like a semi-board game where the sides were fixed. That you kind of had to play the models supplied.
But the fun part of necromunda is you have your main favourite gang and you probably have a theme gang like enforcers or squats Ashwastes that are part of the story but only outliers but fun to play to tell the whole story
I appreciate the aesthetic of Necromunda and the concepts of the game. When the new edition dropped it seemed a lot were excited, I assume even new players to the game. I always love when parts of the community get brand new shiny editions or model launches and these new models dont disappoint. However, I'll be staying away from Necromunda for a number of reasons, mainly because I dont need to invest in another GW game Im not commited to. 40k is my main jam and KT, Underworlds, and Warcry fill the rest of that space occasionally. Now Im getting into AoS with spearhead, testing the waters. If I dont end up liking AoS, I know I still have warcry and underworlds
Nice explanation for Necromunda at the start Andy. The analogy I've been using recently has been, if 40K is a Marvel/Disney film, HH is Lord of The Rings, and Necromunda is the HBO/BBC drama series. Not thought of a film way to include Kill Team yet... Thanks for the review! I'm hoping that Secundus/the Underhells Campaign, acts as a gateway game to Necromunda, like Space Crusade/Space Hulk was to 40K back in the day.
The IC reason for a Spyrer, is they're the people who are PAYING everyone to do this. (And going without them is insane) The OOC? To show off the new units, and to make sure you have someone who can go toe-to-toe with the Malstrain.
Ok I volunteer to learn and play with you. I am in Canada so….. I am moving soon so you could help with that … Ummm… I think this is a great idea/offer …. Single Hellooo
Way more interested in Sigmar than Necromunda.. Indeed your bad, such a bad setting.. Had it been Old world it might have been gold and I'd still much rather play mordheim these days. I won't touch AoS nope.
No Double Hello? My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined 😢

Damn, Glass has done so many "man reads book" that he can speed run whole rule books now, impressive.

Agreed. I always want to buy Necromunda, but it seems both under- and overdeveloped.

Nice summary. I’m deep into 5 Parsecs From Home, so might pick up the new Necromunda box for the minis and the lore.
I want this set so bad, but I’m looking at my Ash Wastes box sitting unopened on my “”shelf of unrealized potential” and know that I have far too many projects already in the pipeline.
But at that point what will another box of potential do bad for you?

Secundus reminds me of the original Underhive box that relaunched Necromunda. Two gangs and six missions with walls printed on the card tiles.
Gangs of the Underhive just came back in stock! Guess that means no new version of Necromunda this year, breaking the 3 year cycle.
The thing is, i play necromunda already, so if you don't have all the list:

Nice review of the boxset. Thank you
Pinning test hello! This was really helpful.
Monthly Kill Team boxes made me chuckle.

Can you do a video like “what I’d buy “if” I wanted to play Necromunda”
Also Ashwastes didn’t include Delaque much in that. So maybe more about them in this new expansion

been waiting for your thoughts on this one :)
the guy with the eye injury then gets an eye patch greenstuffed onto the model

Kill Team is the sunday morning cartoon series (in a good way)
There you go
“I haven’t read it…..you don’t need it”
I am a total beginner and want to buy this. But it just doesn’t seem like a good entry point.

The OOC? To show off the new units, and to make sure you have someone who can go toe-to-toe with the Malstrain.

Ya like what you like. I like necromunda but no judgement
never played Necromunda, this looks interesting, but don't have £ for it, so not for me.
Have you been imprisoned in a solarium?
Shadow Stabbers? 🤣
I impulse bought this because I got an insane deal and the models are sick for gsc. I dont think i have the mental capacity to play necromunda.

Necromunda is meh, too bloated by rules and dice checks. I spend more time reading the rulebook than playing the game. Boooooo 4/10
It's brilliant with the right people
