To be fair, outside of 9th edition, Tyranids have been a really good faction. They've been fun, fairly competitive but only in 9th Edition were they OP. Things ev and flow
@@maelstromgamingstudios that's true but in 9th they were only op for a couple of months after the codex dropped as was every army (the white swarf crusher detachment was a huge boost though), lord knows that before our 9th codex it was far from enjoyable trying to stay competitive (rip to the hive guard still paying the price) 4th was my favourite time playing 'nids, they were so narrative and fluffy and the carnifex was king!
Been playing with them since a kid (3rd edition, 2002) and Tyrands aside from some bright spots they never were competitive-strong. Robert Cruddace who wrote codexes from 5th to 7th (as far as we know) was made a meme on how he nerfed Nids in every iteration. 7th edition only had 1 viable build just for having fun. And it required Forge World minis.
They were great in 4th and 5th as well. Upgraded hormagaunts hit harder and faster than SM but cost as much. Oh and Carnifexes were brutal beasts in melee.
The foot Tyrant + 6 Hive Guard really benefits from the +1 strength enhancement in Assimilation swarm. Plus Swarmlord in Unending swarm gives you the CP to regen a squad of Gargoyles turn 1.
Don't you get this with hive tyrants anyway? The Swarmlord's ability triggers at the start of your command phase, so if you go first, you'll have 3CP in your opponents' turn, but if you go second you'll only have 1CP in your opponents' turn and can't trigger that strategem. With regular HT and Flyrant, you'll have either 2CP or 1CP, which is still enough for a regen if you go first, but not if you go second?
just got my hive tyrant today and was so hype for the 3d model but live in luxembourg... shame! great vid btw, I will be making him full melee for sure now!
Yes amigo, I actually so happened to need a few tyrant bodies. Need one now and a few in the future once I’m done all these gaunts. Just picked up a few. Thanks for letting us know u have a quality body 👍
@apexiv6919 wish I could post pictures. Just painted it yesterday. It's a very tiny bit smaller so there's a little gap if it bothers you, easy to fill. But it looks identical to the one from the box.
Oh hell yea!!! Will absolutely be buying that torso I kept by sprews for months just to have extra monster bits but now I can make another model?!?! Good lookin out!
the winged HT should just have the feet be ekstra attacks then you chose another weapon be it ranged or melee. or to make it fit. ranged + feet attacks or Melee + feet attacks with extra attack on.
100% this. I thought they originally made a mistake in the index with the extra attacks on the arm talons that they'd fix in the codex, and then it dropped and nope lol bizarre
@@maelstromgamingstudiosWill do. I obviously didn't finish the video before leaving that comment haha. As you mentioned the shipping thing near the end. My Fault.
It blows my mind to see how little people use the fight first hive tyrant. It literally cant die in engagement, and if the fail to kill all 6 hive gaurd there all back cause of the regen. Its cp out put for assimilation swarm is next level you get 2 cp with heroic intervention protecting your neroulictory from first turn assults, then all you need to do is pack it with a pyrovore escort and boom it always has fight first and a little flammer. Plus since they dropped the full block of tyrant gaurds down to 200pts you get a free ripper swarm with that and that can also regen them and give them fight first. Okay so thats awesome now he also give you a free re roll a turn, so the tyrannofex riptide cannon misses to wound or you fail a save just re roll it it can generate four cp pure battle round! Then when he gets into your opponent line if they havent cleared your gaurd squad it becomes impossible cause now hes using his free cp on regening his gaurds after eating your squad, then your hero then your next hero all becoming gaurds and they cant do anything cause the tyrants fighting first! Muahahahahahhah
I think it would've been worthwhile to factor in the Tyrant Guard into this, given they're an important part of the Hive Tyrant's identity, not to mention just good in general and the lack of them for the flying one matters. Them being made cheaper also helps them out too. It's hard to tell if you included the possible ranged attacks into the final comparison or not as well (both the Hive Tyrant's guns and the Swarmlord's pulse, even if the Hive Tyrant can only fire on a different enemy squad while actively engaged in melee). In general I've not found the Hive Tyrant to be put in danger from firing his own weapon, especially if you have other more dangerous units the enemy doesn't want to ignore, and him giving himself assault is pretty good too. The melee damage does clearly speak for itself, though, so it's not like that doesn't have it's place. The Hive Tyrant has always been my favorite Tyranid, so I'll always be happy to bring him out to the battlefield. I'd like him to get a points decrease, sure, but for what he's at he's more than worth it for the sheer utility and support that he brings. Having the original be the best of the three this time around is just really nice.
It would be awesome if you sold a set that contained two Tyrant torsos, one set of legs with tail, and one Hive Tyrant head. If you did, people could complete all three Tyrant variants with one GW kit, plus your set!
Hey love your videos and had a question since you seem very well experienced with the nids. What would you recommend I get next if I’m planning to play invasion fleet. I currently own the following: - leviathan box - 20 gargoyles - biovore - Pyrovore - norn emissary - exocrine - Haruspex - Zoanthropes - neurolictor I was considering getting maybe a deathleaper, hive tyrant or a maleceptor but wanted some opinions first
So I have a question, when you take the lash whip and bone sword on the Flyrant are you not able to also use the tyrant talons in the same fight phase? I assume that’s the case because the Monstrous Scything talons have extra attacks and the tyrant talons don’t
I don´t think it would be too much to ask for the Stranglethorn Cannon to be S12. Do this for the Carnifex weapons and a few other weapons too, such as for the Maleceptor Strike attack and we would be decent.
Yeah Heavy Venom cannon at str 12 and Stranglethorn Cannon to str 8 or 9 would be useful. I also hate that there is no way of upgrading Carnifexex to BS3+ anymore via enhanced senses.
@@terminatoruk4921 Very true. Camofexes are cool and all, but everything hitting on 4´s is just frustrating. Going though all the weapons and get miss after miss sucks! I don´t know what they costed last edition to maybe make up for this. But i m not sure if 125 is ok for the current ones either.
@@Dewoy1 think they were pretty similar price before factoring in upgrades. The only thing I think they have going for them this edition is crushing claws don't have a further to-hit penalty over scything talons + you're not paying anything more for them as wargear is free. Tyranids have gone up and down, left and right, back and forth over time. Their state in 10th is far from their low point (which was 7th, I think).

Found your old video of this just yesterday thinking that it needed an update.
Fantastic!
You’re the guy who got me into Nids!
Just bought your Tyrant Torso! Saved me 50 bucks !
Same! Got the baby norn one. How’d it turn out?
nice touch having the groin piece on your tyrant torsos. When I was looking for one most of the ones I saw didn't include it.

Just ordered the torso from Etsy. Love the idea of getting the most from the box. Thanks!

I was shocked when I did bw and lash and I didn't get both melee profiles.
3:44 100% agreed lol
Darn, no Canadian shipping. Great video(s) regardless. Always look forward to seeing a new one.
I'll look into this. Canadian Shipping shouldn't be the worst. Feel free to send me a message on Etsy so I don't lose track of this.

Currently trying to convince myself the winged tyrant is the best choice, because thats the one I wanna paint.
Paint it!! It's a fun model to build and paint
Excellent timing. I’m working on my ass swarm list and want to include one.
The objectively correct answer is always Flyrants. You can trust me, I only own 6.
Flyrant was my first ever big warhammer model. Love it to death and cannot wait to own more.
I like the swarmlord only for the cp generation.
Ill Buy the torso as soon as you can deliver to Canada! Gotta support :)
Send me a message on Etsy and I'll see what I can do!
Thanks 👌
Extra attacks can be buffed, just not bonus/number of attacks.

Do you recommend using the Swarmlord with 3 Tyrant Guards with crushing claws? It`s the only tyrant i have.
