    I'm glad this channel exists. Been obsessed with the Komodo lately and wanting to upgrade from my mirrorless cam. (Sony A7iii) BMPCC6K is so much cheaper but just love the colors, gamma curve, global shutter and form factor for gimbals so much more out of the Komodo.

    The review you give at the very end is insightful not only because of what you’re saying but also showing how the gimbal tracks you. It did a much better job when you were at a slight jog because when you were walking slowly you could feel it ramp up in speed and then slow down which created this jerking motion. I wish it was able to figure out how to do a consistent steady speed with active track

    Great review as usual!. Considering getting RS2 for my Komodo… so far been handheld or on sticks… with all the options (DJI 3d focus, Komodo auto focus, Tilta nucleus nano, etc) what setup would you recommend? Seems to be a lot of routes and now a little intimidated haha…I have a lot of Canon photo glass w AF option (24-105f4L, 50mm f1.2L, 24mm 1.4ii L, etc) but also some older Canon manual FD that I prefer w the Komodo. What route would you recommend for setting up a rig? I also like the look of the Tilta advanced ring grip. TIA!

    The shaking back and forth on longer lenses may be a balance issue! I don't know how the Komodo + Long Lens was balanced, nor have I used an RS2 but this issue comes up on my glidecam when the camera/lens is weighted too far forward. Judging by the bts shots and the comment at the end I think this may be the case. If you bring the counterweights further away from the camera (maybe mount each on a noga arm so they both go around the back support arm?) it should help
    EDIT: it's clearly a software issue. still though to everyone else, don't forget to balance!

    • @Joey_Helms
      @Joey_Helms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the thoughtful reply. It was properly balanced and did only do the shaking head thing when using ActiveTrack. Hence it is clearly a limitation of the tracking system not the balancing.

      Cheers Daniel! Yup I do :) If you want to go wide, for sure the Tokina 11-20 is absolute killer. And then to complete the set you may want to look into the DZO Pictor Zooms or Fujinon MKs (Duclos Mod). Also those lenses I either own or have tested and a good time with.

    Have read other reviews that basically say the RS2 is more trouble then its worth for Komodo users. Also looks like according to your review cinema lenses and their size and weight are some of the main reasons. In light of this if you were def going to be using cinema lenses with a Komodo would Ronin's MX gimbal be a better fit ? Your review and any input would be much appreciated @joeyhelms

    Hey Joey! Thanks for posting this. I’m curious about your 11-20 setup on the RS2. I see the counterweights. Did you only need the 2 that were included with the uurig clamp?
    Which lens mount did you go with for the 11-20? It looks like a canon drop in adapter. Also, 955 or 975 batts? Do you think 975 would have clearance? Did you get full range of motion?
    Sorry for all the questions. I’m just seriously considering this solution and wanted to get your opinion. Keep up the great work!

    • @Joey_Helms
      @Joey_Helms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually depending on if you use the focus motor you can get away with only one counterweight.
      I have the EF with CANON VND adapter. 975s will VERY likely not have clearance. Cause it is just millimetres with the 955s.

    Can you power your SDI micro-converter off the Ronin and also plug the 3D focus and focus motor in all at the same time? It seems like there is one missing power port to be able to run the micro-converter with the full setup. So I'm wondering if, unless you have another tap somewhere on the camera to power something if the Komodo's lack of HDMI makes it a difficult combo to utilize the full RS2 system.

    • @Joey_Helms
      @Joey_Helms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am still waiting for the 3D focus but by the looks it is actually chained between gimbal and focus motor so it doesn't add the need for an additional port.
